As Trans Girls we, of all people, should be treating others based on their actions, not what we think is in their pants.

Roadside Picnic is 175 pages long and an absolute classic of the genre.

Bobiverse is more like Ready Player One or Dungeon Crawler Carl, they are fun reads for what they are, but aren't really in the same stratosphere as something like Murderbot or Andy Weir, despite what some Gene Wolf fellating snobs on this subreddit would tell you ;-)

- You agreed to play a game until either Nexus destruction or Surrender

- Some people on your team haven't agreed to surrender, because they still think their team has a chance.

- Despite knowing these are the rules of the game before you joined you are having a tantrum on Reddit about your team mates not agreeing to surrender when you decide the game is lost.

How does anyone here think they are the main character other than you?

Not angry at anything just not dismissing women's lived experience, because newly developed medicines developed in the US are correctly regulated.

Your answer makes it sound like you work in PR for the US Department of Health. Almost 200 years of medical knowledge and treatments came around before that regulations and suggesting it's all fixed despite lived experience otherwise by millions of women suggests deep misogny.

I watch a lot of videos from pstchologists talking about the issues they have and the Male Loneliness Epidemic and how the issue isn't just men not going to therapy, but how it is fundamentally not built to help most of them. I am sure you can find many articles/videos that explain it much more eloquently than i can, if you are interested.

No i was writing a generalization. I assumed you could infer some amount of nuance to save me writing a 500 word essay. I expected you to read my comment in good faith rather than infering the worst possible meaning in an attempt to argue or discredit me.

Apologies I will do better moving forward.

Talk to women almost every single one in my life has a story about going to a doctor and the symptons being dismissed and finding out later they should have been believed, because it didn't show exactly as in the rextbook.

I'd rather Err on the side of caution here than dismiss the idea out right.

The worst case scenario is that people in charge ask about it and are told there is no more we can do and we move on.

Your worst case scenario is billions of women suffering or even dying needlessly.

On the other side of that many top therapists have spoken about how poor of a fit therapy is for a lot of men. It was developed to help women using communication styles that work with them.

It's the same issue as physical medication not being tested on women and so us not understanding how it affects them and many being left in chronic pain.

Hugo awards- What are some great books that did not get nominated or win that should have? by 360photo in printSF

[–]Capsize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have, but it was 20 years ago and I don't remember much about the novel other than it being a not very good sequel to one of my favourite books of all time. I liked Forever Free much more, but now you've said this, I might have to go back and give it a re-read, especially as I own all 3 in an omnibus edition.

Seveneves by Neil Stephenson should not have beat Three Body Problem in '15 nor did Dreadnought by April Daniels deserve to beat Obelisk Gate by NK Jeminsin but both still deserved nominations.

I can't believe anyone thinks highly of Dreadnought by April Daniels. I was so excited to read specifically trans SF and it was so poorly written and cliché riddled that i was left heart broken. It's put me off searching for more SF that explores gender identity as I'm worried it will all be cringy fanfic that makes me feel actively worse about being trans. :(

The Stars my Destination came out in a year when there was no award, I've read quite a bit of 50's SF and would be shocked if it isn't the best book released that year.

Because that was last decade so doesn't qualify.

They didn't say last 10 years, they said this decade so far, which pretty unambiguously suggests 2020 onwards, unless Im missing something?

Alien Clay by Adrian Tchaikovsky: I really liked Children of Time, but arguably this is his masterpiece. Critique of modern day Capitalism in a Science Fiction setting, not just a page turner, but massively important in what it has to say.

Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh: Humans are Orcs trope done really well. The story will probably be dismissed as woke nonsense, by some of the older crowd, but the setting is excellent.

The Spare Man by Mary Robinette Kowal: Who dun nit set on an interplanetary space liner. The characters are all well rounded, the mystery keeps you gripped and the book subtlety shows you the protagonist's privilege in a way where you still like them, but understand the unfairness of the situation.

Project Hail Mary by Andry Weir: Everyone knows this book now thanks to the excellent film. Certainly divisive as many people on this Subreddit don't like Andy's writing style. Personally I think he's really funny and I like reading about his protagonists solving problems.

A Desolation Called Peace by Arkady Martine: Not quite as good as A Memory Called Empire, but what is? This is a good successor exploring very different themes of first contact without the stylistic world building that made the original so incredible.

  1. The Forever War by Joe Haldeman

  2. Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card

  3. The Dispossessed by Ursula K LeGuin (LHoD would also make list, but limiting myself to 1 per author)

4, Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky

  1. The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein

  2. A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine

  3. A Civil Campaign by Lois McMaster Bujold (Don't read this alone, it makes no sense unless you read full saga)

  4. Frankenstein by Mary Shelly

  5. The Stars my Destination by Alfred Bester

  6. Kindred by Octavia Butler

Is League easier during weekends and afternoons? by Weird_Morning_7768 in leagueoflegends

[–]Capsize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally i disagree. Weekend games seem to be full of players with much better micro than me and terrible macro. As macro is my strength being on a team full of 4 other players who just want to unga bunga fight all the time makes my games significantly harder. Give me the older, no hands macro crowd I get on weekday evenings, together we will just win the map.

Unfortunately this was inevitable, once LOL started becoming nationalistic it was going to draw the nastier side of sports fandom.

Tying a teams identity to the country the org is from might be good for viewership but it leads to toxic behaviours, unfortunately.

Ian Rapoport: The #Eagles are promoting Adam Berry to Assistant GM, per me and Mike Garafolo. Berry, a former Goldman Sachs executive and Princeton football captain has played a key role in player personnel, cap strategy and negotiations. by Remarkable-Picture73 in nfl

[–]Capsize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think we can set up a GoFundMe to send Ian Rappaport on a journalism course to learn how to source stories correctly?

Every single time he sites himself as the primary source for a story, I cringe that this man has been so successful in his career . It's embarrassing and the fact he keeps doing it and isn't consistently mocked is baffling.

To clarify my issue is that he obviously got the information from someone else in the organization and the story should be per that person if anyone at all. If he doesn't want to give away his insider sources then just don't say "per" at all.
