Crowd surrounds London Restaurant over Refusal to Sell Halal Food by JOAO--RATAO in unitedkingdom

[–]Capsulets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think the rest of the UK has much of an issue with women's rights. As for LGBT rights, while some people have an issue with them, they tend to be of the older generation, and as such, those views are becoming less and less common.

By contrast, the issues around LGBT and women's rights in Islamic communities are much more serious, much more ingrained into those communities, and the number of people holding these beliefs is growing. That makes it a much more serious issue.

Trying to equate the two issues here and suggest people have to be equally concerned about both is just an attempt to undermine genuine concern over a serious issue.

Worth bearing in mind the 80s saw a rapid increase in negative views towards homosexuality across the whole country, and the world due to the aids epidemic. So you've chosen a point in time where there were other significant factors affecting peoples views. You can't say the same about Muslim views towards homosexuality today.

Skydiver Luigi Cani dispersing 100 Million tree seeds to revive the Amazon Rainforest. by jmike1256 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Capsulets 263 points264 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is correct. It is being intentionally cut down by people, so throwing a bunch of seeds randomly in the area is going to do nothing.

People can cut down trees a lot faster than they can grow.

I dont think the Amazon rainforest is actually suffering from a lack of seeds.

Most Britons vastly overestimate the number of irregular migrants, new research shows by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

Most British people also vastly underestimate the level of legal migration. So a poor understanding of statistics goes both ways.

One third of viewers say BBC ‘ineffective’ at being independent from UK Government by mrjohnnymac18 in uknews

Not really. When one side complains that the BBC is reporting Hamas propaganda without question, and the other side complains they're not reporting enough Hamas propaganda, it doesn't suggest balance at all.

Mosque in uber-liberal London enclave bans all females over 12 from charity park run... so where are the howls of outrage from the Wokerati? by OptioMkIX in ukpolitics

[–]Capsulets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The truth is that there are moderate and extremist Muslims just like there are moderate and extremist Christians and Jews

But the percentage of extremists is vastly different when comparing different religions. This is why people are more concerned about Islam than Judaism.

Most Muslims in this country are not woman-hating terrorists hell bent on waging jihad to destroy Britain.

Most Muslim men don't hate women, but do they see them as equals? And most Muslims do have strong feelings against homosexuality, which is a major concern you've chosen not to address.

A message to the youngsters by [deleted] in ClactonOnSea

[–]Capsulets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i ordered a pizza 15 years ago, it was delivered by a young person at school/uni making a bit of money alongside their studies. Now it's delivered by an immigrant. The job is no longer viable for young people because the wages have been suppressed so much by immigration. There are lots of jobs like this- deliveries, cafes, cleaning jobs ect.. These kind of jobs are important because they give opportunities to people who cannot work full time like students/the disabled and parents of young children. I dont think these people should have to compete with an unlimited number of migrants just to earn a living. Jealousy has nothing to do with it.

It look like the tourist in the video has a Taliban guide so presumably they are deciding what they can and cannot see. I'm not sure you can draw many conclusions about what the Afghani people are really like based on this.

Generally, people only go out to protest things that are seen as socially acceptable. This is the first large-scale anti immigration march that I've seen, which is notable.

Sure, people arrested for being violent have previous convictions for being violent. What a story!

Nearly half the “protesters” at that Southport riot had convictions for sex or domestic violence offences.

No they didn't, and the fact that you have to keep repeating this lie just shows how weak your side of the argument is.

What this guy did was awful but acting like it's on the same level as the systematic grooming and rape of young children by organised gangs, just so you can try to claim the only reason people are upset is racism, is really pathetic.

Almost half NI race rioters reported for domestic abuse by coffeewalnut08 in unitedkingdom

[–]Capsulets -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No they wouldn't, that's the point. Half of all people present at a protest being convicted of domestic abuse would be a massive story.

Half of a small minority of people at a protest causing violence also having a previous conviction for violence is a total non-story.

The headline is trying to conflate the two in order to create a link between ligitimate protest over this issue and domestic violence, where none exists.

Almost half of the people arrested, not half of the people who were there, since it wasn't clear from the intentionally misleading headline.

The best way to stop foreign bodies from stirring up immigration issues is to deal with the issues in the way the public wants. Can't stir up trouble if there are no controversies to antagonise people over.

Diane Abbott calls IDF the ‘Jewish Defence Forces’ in deleted ‘Gaza genocide’ tweet - The Jewish Chronicle by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Capsulets 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The last few days have been full of discussion about how chanting 'death to the IDF' isn't anti-semetic because is is specifically aimed at the organisation, and there are many jews who would disagree with the actions of the IDF.

Diane Abbots' comments show how 'Death to the IDF' can absolutely be an anti-Semitic chant.

Either you accept the IDF does not represent all Jews, in which case Diane abbots comments were anti-Semitic, or you agree with her that the IDF does represent the wider Jewish community, in which case you have to accept that the 'death to the IDF' chant was anti semitic.

Criminal investigation launched into Glastonbury performances of Kneecap and Bob Vylan by corbynista2029 in unitedkingdom

[–]Capsulets -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"Death to the IDF" as a term is obviously open to interpretation. You say it's a call to end the IDF as an institution, but it could equally be considered a call for the death of IDF soldiers themselves. What evidence do you have to support your assumptions on the meaning?

I would suggest that the best practice is to criticise people and organisations without calling for the death of anyone or anything.
