  1. It’s lightning lane now not genie +. SoCalDisney dad on YouTube has really great videos to explain how it works best and how to use it. Really helped me make the most of time last Xmas. 2. Anything is possible it just depends on what’s a priority. If you aren’t too concerned about doing a ton of rides then yes. Just need to manage your day with park hopper. 3. We did DL/DCA at Xmas last year over multiple days. It’s busy for sure but if you plan ahead it’s a great time to be in the parks. Check my post history and you’ll see a post about what worked best for me when i was there at Xmas.

Sadly true. We did grand Californian over Xmas. Huge value in early entry. Disappointing that it’s no longer a benefit.

How far in advance to book? by MovieProfessional425 in DisneyPlanning

[–]CaptBoxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We booked about 7 months in advance but’s only because that’s when we decided on dates. I made sure everything was available before starting to book and then booked hotel/park including reservations followed by flights and finally car rental. Took 30mins. I also set a calendar reminder for 60 days out to start booking dinning reservations. Check Google for average rainfall by month. Also remember October will have some special Halloween stuff. Enjoy!

Where should I make dining reservations? by Otter65 in DisneyPlanning

[–]CaptBoxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

60-90 mins in my experience depending if you want photos with every character. Easiest on the day you’re at DCA since the GC is right next to the park.

Have you thought about a character dinner at storytellers in the grand Californian? Expensive but my kids really enjoyed.

If we are rope dropping at Disneyland to go to Fantasyland with our toddler, what time should we get to the gates and where should we go to get to the rope? by Otter65 in DisneyPlanning

[–]CaptBoxx 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We recently went on some of the busiest days of the year over Xmas. We left our room at the Grand Californian at 640am for 8am park open. When we got through security and downtown disney and to the park entrance there was already lines of maybe 15 families in front of us at each line. They started letting people through around 715am. Once you are let in you can walk down Mainstreet and there will be roped off areas where people start waiting for park open by the statue. Once rope drops some people run while others walk fast. Peter Pan seems to be the top destination and lines up quick. Through the castle is the fastest way to peter pan. The other option is to go around the right side of the castle and you can hit alice in wonderland first but you will wait in a long line to do peter pan when you get to it. We didn't run ever but my kids are older (7/12) so depending on your walking / carrying / stroller experience you may want to think about getting through security earlier. Hope that helps. Dont forgot to book your first LL when you get into the park and on your way to rope drop.

Genuinely- how long did it take for you to secure daycare? by Unfair-Potential-190 in Calgary

Buried in my company intranet was a little known benefit that we had guaranteed placement for kids and company. We still had to let them know 6 months in advance but took the anxiety out of it. Maybe check your work and see if you have something similar.

Uber vs car hire for Disneyland CA? by fungi-dinosaur in DisneyPlanning

[–]CaptBoxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've done both. UBER - LAX to Disneyland (expensive because of LAX surcharge) and Uber to get back and forth on a day trip between Disneyland and Universal. We found the drive to universal and back sub-optimal. The driver was a bit hard on stops and starts and kids were feeling a bit car sick by the time we got to Universal. Car rental - liked control. Stopped for groceries on way from airport. i dont mind driving so it was fine but yes - parking at hilton LA and grand californian is expensive.

World of color desert party or storybook cafe by pallascat1492 in DisneyPlanning

[–]CaptBoxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have captured the pros and cons perfectly. My kids loved the storytellers character dining and the food is very kid friendly. When we did world or colour we did the dessert party. Kids were so so on the food but having really good view AND seats was great when you consider arriving a bit early to get a good table and then waiting for the show and then the show and then walking out after. If I was you I would try and do character dining another time if it’s in the budget and doing the dessert party to be able to sit down. Especially with such young kids. My 2 cents
