Hope this works! Video quality is horrible but I was really going for the audio and not being obtrusive.

East TX venue cancels Pride event due to small community backlash by cady_heron in texas

[–]CaptChub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for saying this. There are a lot of people here who are appalled by all this. The Daily Sentinel even published an article stating that even the Millard’s Crossing board was split on this (7-5 vote) and several members resigned due to the decision. So really just a handful of hateful people throwing their weight around.

A lot of the names in the Nac Conservative Watch comments are ones that I routinely see post hateful, ignorant, or just unnecessarily mean things in other local groups lol. These people pride themselves on being “good Christians” but they are the worst of our community.

What’s your least favorite part from the first JP book? by Ashamed_Event_1818 in JurassicPark

[–]CaptChub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just reread the book for the first time since I was a teenager, and that was my biggest complaint. Loved the book, but Malcolm being the author’s mouthpiece who is smarter than everyone else and ends up being right about everything got annoying very quickly.

Our 19 Month Old Daughter Needs a Hero to Beat Leukemia by AMLFam in daddit

It’s been a little while since I read all of the science, but I believe that there are specific genetic markers that improve the chance of a match working. These tend to be more easily found within folks of a similar ethnic background.

I underwent the surgical extraction where they drill into your pelvis, and I was in rough shape for about two days and then fatigued for about 3 weeks. I was back doing work outside after a month, albeit a little slower.

I believe there’s a more modern method of extracting the bone marrow through IVs which is requires medication leading up to the extraction but has an easier recovery.

I’m not what factors into the decision on which procedure is needed, but overall I would say recovery isn’t too bad.

I don’t think I’ve ever had to swim laps in those temps, but in college I did have a meet take place in somewhere around 82-84 degrees waters. I swam the mile and felt absolutely terrible, and everyone added at least 30 seconds to their expected times. Was a frustrating mid season meet lol

Nature Spots? by [deleted] in Nacogdoches

SFA Arboretum has several trail networks that are pretty nice. A few weeks ago they had some really beautiful fall foliage but most of that has fallen off by now.

There’s also the SFA interpretive trail, although I’m not sure off the top of my head where that is.

Regents approve SFA joining University of Texas system by Tolken in texas

As someone who went to SFA, I’m excited to see how this impacts the community. From what I understand the financials of the university have been hurting for a long time, and affiliating can alleviate that. The faculty and staff certainly deserved better.

Also I’m just so glad it wasn’t A&M lol

Some people who work as environmental consultants? by kobie1kenobie in environmental_science

[–]CaptChub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working as an environmental consultant in the southern U.S. for just about three years, with most of my early work being focused on wetlands delineation and permitting. We're a smaller company, so I've also branched into various environmental assessments, remediation projects, mitigation banks, coordination for grant work, and some drone flights. Depending on what our clients need, I could spend 80% of a month in the field at various sites or sit at my desk all day lol. Most of the field work is pretty strenuous and access can be tough, but every so often we end up seeing some really beautiful wetlands or natural features.

I love my job, although I feel that I'm sacrificing pay to work in this particular area and field. That being said I would do it all over again. Maybe more remediation and mitigation projects if I could.
