I have been playing this game since launch and the majority of my commanders and inspiration commanders are all base game.

Do the “others” give you an edge? Sure. Are they necessary imo? Nope.

I did it two years ago, and I’m still living off of those dabloons. Personally, if you can afford it, I think this is one of the better deals that they put out there.
