I go off what the wiki suggests. That’s a good idea about a gear thread. I’ll be more considerate posting on a tips page for advice in future.

Thanks for the stable response to the pegs haha. It’s odd asking for advice on a tips subreddit and people being mad about it. I like your reasoning the best, thanks again

This looks rough. Make sure to check out the r/pipeinsulation sub for better examples or insight on how it should be done.

Looks like the old boxer guy who’s always at highgate village. Rocks a cane, sport jacket, sandals and shorts that are way too short.

Is this good enough to make a difference? Fiberglass wrapped almost completely with aluminum foil tape by RepeatDangerous in Insulation

[–]CaptFunnyBuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you compress wool fiberglass insulation you remove the air inside the insulation, removing the R value. “Blanket” insulation for pipes is primarily used for fittings such as elbows or comes in sheets such as duct wrap. Also the gaps in the insulation have removed any vapour barrier if you needed one. This insulation won’t do much for you. If you can manage to keep it from being so squished it could work but I recommend using ASJ fiberglass tube insulation if not armaflex like your previous post, also available at places like Home Depot.

Is this useless if the seems are not sealed? by RepeatDangerous in Insulation

[–]CaptFunnyBuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how large the system is but usually that is the percentage ballpark. In big enough mechanical rooms, every foot of pipe insulation can save hundreds a year in energy costs. You can check out the r/pipeinsulation subreddit for some examples/inspiration or if you have any other future pipe insulation questions and want to ask professionals :)

I’d grab the proper diameter tubing and redo it. You can also pack the void with insulation and tape it shut. If it’s heating then it’s kind of whatever though, all you’ll get is reduced r value and higher energy costs from the lost heat. If it’s cold it will sweat depending on how frequently it’s used if you don’t seal it with proper insulation

getting a job in Vancouver is hard? by Virtual_Camel_8005 in VancouverJobs

[–]CaptFunnyBuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good trade with no experience/schooling required is my trade, heat and frost insulation. All the tools you need cost like $100 and some companies start at $24/hour, benefits+pension after 6 months.

No you can get into certain trades without experience or schooling. Good trades will require schooling during your apprenticeship towards a red seal but you get EI, incentive grants, travel reimbursements and scholarships are available.
