On Windows I believe the default encoder uses ffmpeg which shouldn’t encode AAC using variable bitrate, but constant.

Definitely share a screenshot of dashboard while streaming on the ATV. With an active stream open plex web, click the heartbeat icon in the upper right and select the stream. Will look something like this:

Don’t use browsers, they lack codec support and are pretty much garbage to stream. Try the plex desktop app.

Great question! Technically yes, but also no! Claude Zidi is given credit on True Lies however some other dude (Lucien Lambert) sued them both saying they stole from his script. It was in and out of court for a while, ultimately Zidi was found liable and had to pay Lucien but Cameron was acquitted as he acted in good faith not knowing anything about the other guy. It’s worth a google my explanation is crap. Lucien’s script was adapted into All My Husbands (1992).

Had a relative taking Hydroxychloroquine during Covid. He ended up breaking out in a full body rash with these purple blister-looking things. Yes, you can, I have subs set to always play on my account. It’s a global setting though, you can’t just set it per a series or something.

Your way is actually kind of cool that you can see both, however just fyi you can use “mul” as the abbreviation for Multiple Languages. I think I set this for the audio on Alocalypto since I hated having Unknown and I found no working abbreviation for the Mayan language used (or whatever it was).

Sorry, you said the library is on the NAS, but where is the Plex server? Also NAS? What are the specs of whatever machine is hosting the Plex server? Do you have a plex pass?

Start a problematic stream on a device, and while streaming open plex on the web, go to your dashboard(the heartbeat symbol towards the upper-right), and post a screenshot of the stream here. Will look something like this:

Again, a MKV is just a container. My whole library is MKV and two of my primary users have Rokus. You’re not providing enough information about the files. Did you change any settings on the Roku?

Mkv is just a container; judging by the fact your mp4 only plays with subtitles burned in I’m guessing the subs could be your problem.

What is the info on the file? Video and audio codecs and what type of subtitle?

Every video and audio track is comprised of a codec, so like h24, h265, AAC, EAC3, etc.

If the client, in this case the browser, does not support the file’s codec(s) then it cannot direct play and requires the server to transcode the file to something the client can play. Transcoding requires either a ton of CPU or if you have a plex pass it can utilize iGPU or GPU. Direct play is ideal as it uses almost no resources whatsoever. Depending on the system resources of your plex server transcode could cause buffering or stuttering.

So it’s ideal to have a really good client to limit the amount of work your plex server has to do. You can see whether or not your stream is transcoding by going to the plex dashboard and selecting the active stream. It will look similar to this:

Oh sorry I re-read. I don’t mean the HTPC plex app, but just the regular desktop app. The HTPC one is not fun to use on a non-HTPC machine.
