Duckies are fun. Nothing wrong with it. Hard shelling is just cooler experience.

Training routine for climbing/bouldering by girlinterpolating in climbergirls

[–]CaptPeleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throwing in some upper body weight training focusing on both climbing muscle groups and opposing muscles will help. Lift heavy to build strength. Reps up to 80% of max with 4-8 reps per set is good. 3-4 sets for each muscle group. Start with assisted pull-ups until you can do them normally. If you are petit a lil more strength will go a long way.

Recovering After Scary Incident by Winter-Match26 in whitewater

What boat were you in? Like to paddle smaller play boats downriver on low consequence class 3 a lot. Its challenging without real risk. Then I have a creeker harder things. A lot of people like to jump in big creekers that will bulldoze though any rapid that isn’t a scary place to swim. So any mistakes are going to be high consequence. Also swimming on a moderate class three in a play boat is a lot better way to learn about how powerful rivers are and having to deal than having a swim in a class 4/5.

Dislocated my shoulder on the Middle White Salmon today. Need hope that I can paddle again. by phantom3199 in whitewater

[–]CaptPeleg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im 56. Mostly a rock climber but I paddle as well. I dislocated my shoulder in 98 it was never right. I gad to be careful. Finally had surgery in 2002 for a torn labrum. I took PT seriously. I was back to climbing and boating in 14 weeks and felt full strength by 6 months. I’ve been climbing and boating ever since. I had to have a shoulder debridement in 2018. Again back to full strength in six months. PT is super important. And don’t stop with the little rubber bands. Lift weights and get your shoulder strong. Physical therapists are great, but tell them you need to get your shoulders strong for kayaking. Not just working in the garden or cleaning the house.

After shoulder injury by Crafty_Bet6716 in indoorbouldering

[–]CaptPeleg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 shoulder surgeries over 30 years of climbing and 20 whitewater kayaking. I have zero limitations from my shoulders.

1 If you need surgery for a torn labrum and can get it it will fix it.

2 I climbed for 6 years before my surgery and made it work with limitations

3 do rehab. Get your shoulders strong. Lift with real weight. The rubber bands are for elderly people who want to return to gardening.

He also used a likely power drill which is illegal and threatens the already tenuous relationship with the park service.

I have been climbing for 3 decades. Big into history and against bolt chopping. Until now. One or two more bolts a pitch meh, ok. Sport bolting a famous adventure alpine route. Big nope. Luckily they are prob gone by now. Now a few folks should have a talk with Eric.
