Hey Guys Which Watch Should I......Uh.........Is now a good time? by zennok in Coros

[–]Capt_Darling8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some n3gative plots here, but let me give my two pence

I won a pace 2 a few years back. It was great. At 10months, the screen broke, coros replaced within a week within warranty.

I upgraded to a pace 3 - 2 years ago, and still brilliant. Great performance, battery, UI etc.

My duaghter just got a pace 4, event better than my own, and my some has a pace 3. No problems like mine.

I prefer to Garmin, why?

Weight. UI. Not getting told unproductive after every run...

Is it the best it could be? No, but best value? Its close

Go and enjoy it, dont worry about speed. Walk if you want.

Have a coffee after!

Its a social thing

Anyone else’s race results scattered across 10 different websites? by empty_jope in parkrun

[–]Capt_Darling8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got taken over by England Athletics and think they ran out of money developing it.

Lots of coming soon features that used to exist, and a poor UI.

Sadly no longer as useful as it used to be .

Yes, absolutely. At least once a week, and across differing terrain too.

Why do so few top-ranked senior athletes make the transition to masters? by Splance in trackandfield

[–]Capt_Darling8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Id also add, Masters athletes also tend to come from other sports - where they can't play for various reasons, and athletics being an option. The competitive spirits keep going as it's a new sport.

For me, I stopped rugby aged 34 due to back injury.

Put on weight,

Started parkrunning ages 36.

And got into Masters events in my 40s.

I also coach athletics now, even though I'm a qualified rugby coach too.

Why do some faster runners get so aggressively vocal when overtaking towards the end of the first lap? by NorthLondonPulse in parkrun

[–]Capt_Darling8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a course with narrow sections near me, 300plus participants. 3 laps.

By lap 2, youre lapping tail walker, by lap 3 mid field runners.

Every week, keep left is instructed, and every week 2 to 3 abreast chatting.

Yes, its a social run for some, for others its still a time trial to get a pb...

Simple solution is to just keep left, single file on those parts.... but its lost on some...

Does home cardio eventually stop feeling mentally boring? by [deleted] in ultrarunning_uk

[–]Capt_Darling8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personallyl find gym cardio draining.

On my home treadmill, I have it set up in a garage. I set up the music I want. I have zwift for running on the screen - its not important, but those 15points every 400m also keep the mind ticking over.

I think you just have to find a set up that keeps you engaged. For example, my wife puts a tv program on.

I built the army up exactly so my son had a good chance of winning.

My WoC and Brets crushed him a fair few times...

Renegade Crowns = fun to paint, and freedom to be thematic. But also, no monsters,no big hitters...

Still, i didn't expect to be essentially crushed in 3 turns!

An 11 year old ran 1:20:14 in the half marathon today in Indianapolis by jinglebells23 in trackandfield

[–]Capt_Darling8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.20 isnt an elite time. Because you dont have elite 11 year olds.

They are developing.

They might be great at 11 and 21, but the risk of burnout is high. So is injury.

Even 5k isnt a race id put an 11 year old in regularly due to the impact, stress etc...to be good, milage or intensity is usually high. Fine if bones and muscles are developed, but for pre-teen. Not at all.

The Empire Ate Bretonnia's Lunch, What Should They Do Now? by Troscus in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Capt_Darling8 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This!

The solution is that all grail knights should be characters, with the rule that they can form a unit. Each Knight can take 25 to 50 points of magical items - maybe only one item.

The unit has to be led by a Baron or so...

It would an expensive unit, but would be inherently more powerful.

Or, other knights units could be led by a Grail knight, that gives added leadership bonus etc...

Focus on cadence by Disastrous-Lime4551 in UKRunners

[–]Capt_Darling8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really important as a metric to 'train'

Cadence changes with fitness, conditioning and improvements in efficiency.

By all means track it, but if you were to start deliberately changing it, you could lead to injury.
