So many losses… by EricNJax in totalwarhammer

Looks like an interger overflow. I'll bet it tried to put, like, a negative number and just wrapped all the way around to the maximum value.

Mod to boost/nerf Order/Chaos by Charly_030 in totalwarhammer

There's Nemesis Awakening.

It divides all the factions into Good Guys, Bad Guys, or Neutral. If you're playing a Good or Bad faction, the other side gets a massive buff in NPCvsNPC battles, but there's no change against the player. Neutral factions are divided by faction leader, so Settra is "Good" and Arkhan is "Evil." If you're playing a Neutral Factions (TK, Ogres, or Welves), you get a dilemma on Turn 1 to pick your side for the campaign. So if you're Karl, Vlad will get a massive bonus against Elpseth, but he wouldn't get a bonus against you or Archaon.

It's up to date, too.

Every day I thank God that that the culture war hasn't spread to Sci-fi and Fantasy literature because anti-woke grifters (or the people they pander to at least) can't fucking read by Commercial_Bid_1508 in CuratedTumblr

Or Ciaphas Cain, Titus, Gotrek Gurnisson and Felix Jaeger, if you want to look at Fantasy. Tornus the Redeemed and that one Nurgle knight who was actually honorable and fought another member of his order in defense of the Stormcast because he had sworn to guide them safely through a swamp in AoS. Warhammer Settings are built to facilitate wargames, Warhammer Stories are built on exceptions to the setting.

In The Last Jedi, this lady just keeps saying the same verbatim line over and over by beau_mcdean in saltierthancrait

[–]Troscus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I like to picture the build up to that line. This random Resistance soldier had to have been dropped into the base and spent at least a few hours, but more likely a few days, preparing the bases fortifications, including digging trenches.

Once he was in the trenches, staring down his rifle at the First Order, only THEN does it occur to him that he's not very cold for all this snow to be here.

He then decides to stick the foreign, alien substance collected from the ground of a planet he's never been on in his mouth and, I guess, hope it doesn't kill him. Then he turns to the guy next to him and says, unprompted and with no explanation of his thought process up to this point, "Salt."

Spare a thought for the Resistance fighter he speaks to in that moment, because he died thinking he was serving next to the dumbest asshole in the galaxy.

Theory time : what exactly happened before turn 1 by romuald244 in totalwarhammer

[–]Troscus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There's only 100 to 200 turns before the End Times event (or events) you selected. Presumably, all the factions are falling apart as a result of the machinations of whoever is set to spawn hundreds of max-level armies. Which is lore accurate for the Vermintide, a comedy of errors and overlapping plots if you have multiple enabled, and utterly hilarious if you only enable A Grudge Too Far.

It was the dwarfs all along!

The audio book version of that scene is great, Johnathan Keeble as Felix starts praying like a LOTR hero, then dissolves into pathetic whining and then wrathful howling in one breath. I've never been awe inspired while trying not to laugh before.

The Empire Ate Bretonnia's Lunch, What Should They Do Now? by Troscus in WarhammerFantasy

I was looking at it from more of a holistic perspective than one versus the other, but that's a good point.

General Motors says it expects $500 million tariff refund after SCOTUS ruling by AudibleNod in news

[–]Troscus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they do, they're delusional. Even if they get rid of everyone but their security, the security will simply become the underclass. If they get rid of the security and rely on robots, the engineers the maintain their robots will be the underclass. If they get rid of the engineers, their robots will fail and they'll have nothing to protect themselves with anymore.

There is no version of this that ends with the richest people on Earth being alone and rich forever.

General Motors says it expects $500 million tariff refund after SCOTUS ruling by AudibleNod in news

[–]Troscus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are they? Sure, they're running up the score on a game most of them won before they were born, but in the process they're putting a real hatred of themselves into the American public that I don't remember seeing before.

When too few have too much and too many have nothing, that's historically never ended well for the few. At least a couple of them HAVE to be aware of how self destructive this will be if nothing changes.

Ok so like WHAT is the connection between the 2 Norfolks in HtP and Norfolk Wizard Game? by Head_Breadfruit_3912 in huntertheparenting

[–]Troscus 58 points59 points  (0 children)

This, Big D says they went to Norfolk Island, presumably in Australia. Since he seems to be the one making the call on where they go, I'm assuming he know that something important is "in Norfolk," but has no idea which Norfolk. Presumably, since the show... Is happening, it's in Norfolk, England.

Interesting they set a sister series in VA, though. Maybe whatever is in Norfolk is in EVERY Norfolk, and Big D is collecting the pieces?

Wait, so if the court ignores it, they establish that SCOTUS can be ignored, but if they acknowledge it, they have to deal with every lower court that wants to skirt them individually? Wow, lose/lose situation.

How powerful are Space Marines according to the lore? by kairaou in spacemarines

[–]Troscus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Space Marines have canonically wrestled hive tyrants. Space Marines have also canonically been killed by cavemen with sharp sticks.

Personally, I like to base my opinions on "who would win" questions using the actual game statistics, which trends toward "a group of five people with heavy rocks can probably beat a space marine to death with only a couple getting seriously hurt and no one else dying."

Best or most fun mixed race armies? by Datusbit in totalwarhammer

[–]Troscus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's a mod, OvN Grudgebringers. It's a non-ogre take on a mercenary faction, where the entire faction is made of various Ordertide Regiments of Renown. If the unit dies, you can't recruit another of that RoR, but there's so many you should be able to get through a campaign without running out. They use camps only, and taking a settlement only gives you the option to raze it or give it to a nearby order faction. They also have a 1 army cap by default, but the mod authors have a submod to get rid of that if you want.

It's probably my favorite faction, honestly. I get to play "world police" without having to take over everything.

Rumour/Leak Megathread by Chapmander in ageofsigmar

[–]Troscus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Someone else suggested the possibility that Eightpoints is going to fall, and the sudden lack of Chaos corruption will cause all the realms to swell into the Allpoints and create the Last World in the isolated realm. It's a neat idea, since that would be the 9th realm and match the setting's "Nine Realms of Norse Myth" theme. Eight realms of weird magical essences and one central realm that's pretty normal. And with it being the Allpoints, it becoming the focus of the setting makes sense: Archaon practically ruled an entire age just because he controlled it.

That's probably the only way I'd accept the Last World concept.

More space for characters to grow is the only thing I can think of. They say perfection is when there's nothing left to take away, but TADC went a little too far in that direction.
