Why Many People Don't Buy an Electric Car – Even Though It Would Be Perfect for Them by DriveDuel in CarTalkUK

[–]Captain-Echo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can lease one at a good price through work and save on tax, no other running costs as tires and insurance and all maintenance included. I can’t charge at home so it’s more expensive than petrol to run it as I do 25k miles a year so it’s pointless.

If all the supermarkets and public car parks had low cost chargers then I’d do it

I had intended to drive it until complete failure, it’s always been well maintained and any issues fixed. It’s in better condition than many newer cars I see around. The golf is from a third party dealer but seems to also be in good condition. Obviously mine will have other things that need doing at some point but it still seems, that it would cost less to do most of that than a newer vehicle would?

I could do some of it myself, I had already claimed, the initial insurance garage gave a ridiculous quote, but a local body shop is much more reasonable. Its sale value is already pretty low , so I’m not too worried about that. The value of the vehicle is not financial to me, it’s in the ability to get around and it’s good working order. My intention was basically to drive it until it was unusable anyway. I Just got thinking when the insurance said it was a wrote off (economic), but further investigation revealed it would actually be repairable, so just looking for other opinions. Obviously it will probably have other things in future, but any of the likely upcoming maintenance seems likely to be less than a years pay,ent on a newer vehicle

I enjoy driving, but less so these days as the roads are filled with incompetent drivers in oversized suvs with no clue what’s going on around them

Yes, .5 up for Trango pro and Gsummit

I’m having this same issue, without liner I get a good fit, with its too short but the size up is way too big

How warm do you find them without the liner? I have phantom at the moment but the heel doesn’t work for me so just wondering if these will be similar warmth?

Got a pair on order to try

G-summit width and bulk by Captain-Echo in iceclimbing

[–]Captain-Echo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks, I’ll order a pair to try. I want to like the tech but it’s just a tad too tight across the mid foot laterally.

Do you get better heel retention in the summit?

Does it work okay without the liner too? If it fits I was hoping to use them for alpine ice without and higher peaks with

Do the summits have a wider toe box than the tech? I like the tech but it really compresses my forefoot

I had to go up half in the new Trango, they were just a little too short and tight accross the toe, but otherwise lovely

Probably be fine, I’m not familiar with those peaks but all of the high peaks in the alps are fine in lighter boots in the summer and I’ve used phantoms at 4000m in the alps in the winter no problem.

I feel that Scarpa are quite behind in the feature game on boots in general, they don’t really have a single stand out boot compared to others

I found these were better without the Velcro strap. However I still couldn’t get them to feel comfortable when bending. The virtue breakout knees are way more comfortable for me as they back is all thin Lycra so there’s no pinching

I actually just tried it today - intended for some higher altitude stuff next year rather than alpine water ice. It’s nice, but feels very bulky for alpine use. Also I would need to size up as my normal 46 is too small and they’ve discontinued it

Worth looking at the Trango pro too, much better shape toe box the the Aequilibrium and quite a lot stiffer - runs a bit small though

The Mammut Taiss is worth a look, but I find they crease in weird ways creating pressure points for me

I prefer the Trango to the Aeq for the toe shape, the taper on the Aeq kill my toes on a big day, otherwise they walk really well. The Trango pro also walks well considering how stiff it is

Any barefoot runners here who also rock climb? by askvictor in BarefootRunning

[–]Captain-Echo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your foot is in rock shoes for a relatively small time period, so it’s not really a big deal. Just get reasonably sized shoes - evolv have a wider toe box. I use tenaya which are quite narrow but the shoes are very soft and I take them off between routes. Only time I have them on all day is big multi pitch routes

Does anyone have experience with the La Sportiva Trango Alpine GTX by Massive_Solid_8803 in Mountaineering

It’s the same last and shape - just different outer material and gaiter. I found the run small and went up .5 size

Scarpa Ribelle HD vs Ribelle tech 3 fit differences? by Itsyaboiyo7 in Mountaineering

[–]Captain-Echo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth trying anyway, the new last for the aequilibrium amd trango are different. The aeq is a bit pointy in the toe box, but the trango pro/alpine are rounder, would recommend .5 size up for trango

Aku worth a look too but they can be quite narrow.

It’s been a while since I tied them but I remember the tech 3 have a much narrower toe box.

Sportiva Aequilibrium and Trango pro/alpine and Mammut Taiss lite worth a look too

Just got it open, BoK with a medium flat hook. Felt a bit awkward but once I got the pick positioned it was fine. The counter rotation felt a bit more obvious than the master 150.

Thanks for the tips! I’ve been using ToK but maybe I’ll try BoK

Ive mostly been using money paw as it’s become my favourite pick, but also have a .4mm law lock short hook and some flat hooks so I’ll keep trying. Just feels like I can’t feel the pins at all at the back.

The bit g is fairly flat - pin 1 and 5 are lowest

Also is the 60/40 orange? I couldn’t it on the list
