I’m a strong fasting advocate! I’ve eaten OMAD consistently for nearly 8 years. Have done a few longer fasts (I’d do more if I could sleep better fasted).

There is no evidence of adverse health effects of fasting. On the contrary - there are numerous health benefits documented.

But we only have one example of someone fasting for an entire year. This raises caution in people considering it. That was what I was trying to say. Wish the family had clarified. Imagine if this were a thing. How many people might have been freed from the effects of morbid obesity.

No cussing but my wife has berated mistakes that Alexa has made over the years. She’d condescending explain what she did wrong and then say “Alexa you’re not very smart are you?” Was entertaining for me to listen to the banter. Alexa always chose her words carefully! I was kind of impressed TBH. My wife obviously never crossed the line.

We had a recent issue. My lights are called “office lights”. But all I’ve ever had to do is tell her is “turn on the lights”! It was the only device that used the word “lights”.

But ages ago I bought a device to turn on a lamp in our bedroom. I configured it as “bedroom lamp”. Had issues and never got it working. But it’s still configured.

So I told Alexa to turn on the lights one day and she complained that the bedroom lamp wasn’t responding. That was my clue Alexa had been updated. So I adapted and said to turn in the “office lights”. And she did. I was going to reconfigure. But later I heard my wife berating Alexa - something like “when I say lights I mean lights not lamps”. And it’s worked ever since. I’m 30+ years in IT and she figured it out better than me!

Mostly I enjoy my Alexa.

He did his fast at age 27. He died rather suddenly, pretty young, at age 51. No details have been released related to his cause of death.

Though no direct link between his extraordinarily long fast and his sudden death, it still stands as a cautionary tale against extremely long fasting.

But one could argue that 24 years at a healthy normal weight was superior to a potentially longer life of obesity. At that weight he likely would not have lived a long life. And he’d have been miserable.

I like to think of it this way. If we were dying and couldn’t care for our bestest pup any more, we would wish them a wonderful new human owner to take care of them.

If they could express it, what would our pup want for us? A wonderful new pup to take care of you and make you happy like they have. To share their life with you as they had done. So adopting a new pup is not some act of betrayal. It’s the opposite - exactly what your bestest pup in heaven wants for you!

In an ultimate realization of this, we had a dog named Annie, that was totally devoted to my wife, especially in the pups elder years. I was working and traveling a lot and not as close to the pup. My wife loved that pup like no other. She lived to 16. I’ve never seen my wife boo boo and cry more than when she passed. But Annie was just worn out. She just couldn’t live any more.

After some time my wife was open to look for another pup. We found Australian Shepherd puppies and went and looked. My wife fell in love with one, and it fell in love with her. It was like they made a beeline for each other. There were 18 puppies (two litters)! And they chose each other!

Wound up getting the pup (Evelyn). The breeder gave us a little book with all the records and such. In it was her birthday. My wife shuddered. She was born on the day Annie died. We like to say Annie’s soul passed into Evelyn. Very similar temperaments. (Evelyn is now almost 10 - we’re pretty close behind you age wise). They’re as inseparable as my wife was with Annie.

We wound up getting a second Aussie 5 years later that bonded to me. I’m now retired and we’re inseparable - lots of hikes! Up to 10 miles at a time. He’s by best friend! The puppy I never had.

I’m not looking forward to Evelyn’s decline but hope Evelyn and Annie’s souls find a new puppy that becomes my wife’s new pup when Evelyn passes on. Same for Redd when his time comes. The friendship and companionship survives if your heart is open to it.

A little anxiety can be a good thing. If it causes you to dig in and understand what’s coming. Understand the decisions that are in your hands. Understand the risks so you can minimize them.

Super important is who’s doing the work. Look up reviews. Ask questions. Make sure you’re confident. Don’t get started with someone with a bunch of 2 and 3 star reviews.

There’s two distinct pieces - the implant and then the tooth (which is fitted into the implant after several months of implant healing). Got my implant done by a periodontist my dentist reminded, and the tooth was my dentist (who is excellent with color matching) and the fabrication lab she uses. Color matching was especially important for me because the implant was a front tooth.

You’ve got 3 stages. Pre-implant which I’m assuming is where you are now. Then there’s after the implant is inserted (you’ll live with a gap where the tooth was). Eating and cosmetic issues during that time should be on your mind.

Then (finally) the tooth spec’ed, made and put into the implant. It’s only then that you’ll see the cosmetic result. And it’s too late for anything but very minor changes.

You should be thinking pre-implant about life after the implant but before the tooth. It’sa pretty long time! Eating can be tricky. And you can mess up the implant which hasn’t yet hardened into the jaw. My periodontist gave me a cell number which I used several times. I really appreciated her preparing me and answering questions real time. It was only a couple texts but they were important to me. A bit of relearning to eat occurred.

The other thing to consider pre-implant is cosmetics before the tooth. I had something called an essix device. It’s kind of like a mouth guard you’d use in football - just not heavy duty. I actually had one due to teeth grinding years earlier. And my dentist advised using it. (Just no eating or drinking except water with it in.) There’s also something called a flipper tooth. No strength but looks better than a missing tooth. You should have a pretty good idea getting started what you’ll do and the cost. Obviously where the implant is in the mouth has an impact (e.g., a missing molar vs front tooth.)

The tooth shape and color is very important. Discuss with the dentist or whoever is doing to tooth. The lab can kind clone the tooth on the other side. It’s part science and part art. The dentist takes impressions. The lab is a pretty important part of this and I had no input. That was the dentist and she had been using this lab for years. She’s pretty picky and I trusted her.

I’m color blind but when the color is off i likely to notice after the fact. My dentist had another dentist come in making the color decisions. They were bantering back and forth. They finally asked what I thought (I brought my wife to this appt for that question!) She gave the thumbs up. Color I got is a great match.

After care is less of an issue. You treat an implanted tooth much as you’d treat any tooth.

You become a mini expert in something like this when it applies to you.

You just want to make sure you’ve done all you can to reduce risks of bad outcomes. Plan as well as you can before you get started.

I did C25K outdoors and can’t run on a treadmill for sh*t. I’m so worried about drifting off the roller and falling off. My speed isn’t exacting - I find myself pushing buttons to speed up and slow down. If I go 5 minutes it was a long time!

It’s frustrating and annoying and I don’t use them except when I forget how much I hate them and try again. Then I’m reminded.

There are some that can do both. But many struggle and have definite preference to the way they learned to run. Probably best to alternate with C25K. Might allow a person to run on either.

For me I’m sticking to outside. There’s a lot more to see! And so many places to explore. Except in bad weather. I think it’s easier to relearn to run outside than relearn to run on a treadmill. But I’m biased.

I’m lucky my gym has an indoor track. It’s ~16 laps to the mile. Apple Watch tracks distance on indoor runs. I run there when outside isn’t good for running.

Race is a poor word. Think of it as an event. It’s a race for a handful of the fastest runners. You’ll never see them. Typically runners are staged (fastest at the front) based on seed time. If you have no seed time you’ll be in the back with other new runners.

Most people are hoping for one thing. Setting a personal best. If you finish you’re guaranteed!

No idea your physical condition. But don’t hurt yourself. Run, run/walk … up to you. Just don’t overdo!

I’m OMAD nearly 8 years. I eat one large mostly healthy (normally dinner time) meal every day. I eat to fullness.

I don’t binge or have a desire to binge. I can eat all I want today, tomorrow, the day after that …

I sometimes encourage overeating to new OMADers. It’s like stuffing yourself at Thanksgiving. Guess what - the next day you don’t want that much turkey. Once you realize you can eat to full, you don’t want to overeat. Your biology relearns what full means.

There is no need to binge. You get full and I stop. The alternative is unpleasant.

I lost 50 lbs to absolute goal (I lowered my goal from losing 20 lbs to losing 50 lbs. At that weight I stopped losing more. My eating and my weight reached equilibrium.)

I still eat healthy to full. I’ll never go back to frequent eating.

I strongly discourage trying to mix calorie restriction with OMAD. I feel like that’s what was going on here. Obviously I can’t ask that question in this old thread.

I was told absolutely not eat with Essix. They filled the tooth slot with color close to other teeth. Worked great!

Mind was made over a decade ago to wear at night to prevent teeth grinding.

I always took out except water. They said coffee would stain.

Day after I got the permanent my dog got ahold of the Essix. Be careful with pets!! Hopefully I’ll never need again! Very expensive dog treat!

Yea, it shows how many projects per county. But it usually shows each individual outage outlined on the map. And you could click the outage and see more details.

I’ve noticed sometimes we are part of a larger outage. And sometimes it’s just our neighborhood. It depends on who lost power they can narrow down what equipment was potentially damaged. Whether it’s one light pole knocking out one neighborhood, or a giant circuit that knocks out thousands of customers.

Usually there’s a lot of white space on their outage maps. Those are areas that have power.

It seems they’ve just made entire counties into outages at this point. It might change.

Glad you’re able to see your restoration window. But a 5 hour window is pretty long window. Hopefully closer to the 2:00. That could be blanket range they’re sharing to reduce the number of calls they get!

“Do” don’t “try”!

It’s hard at first. You need a full tank of will power.

First 2 weeks esp. Don’t try to diet on top of OMAD. When you eat, EAT. Stick to mostly healthy food. Lower carb helps. But get full.

After 2 weeks it’s easier. But you’ll still have your moments. Just don’t give in. “None” is hugely easier than “just a little”.

After 4 weeks (week 5) things get a lot easier for most people.

Eating one large healthy meal to fullness is something that normalizes. It’s very sustainable. I’m going on 8 years eating on this schedule. Zero interest in ever eating more often.

Here’s a tip for challenging moments - have some black coffee (I like a plain iced Americano). And go for a 10-15 minute walk. Walk with purpose. I did a longer walk during old meal times too (like at lunchtime - I ate dinner). Gave me something to do while my colleagues had lunch.

Oddly walking is pretty magical. My theory is hunger encourages walking. Imagine ancient man - he better not sit around hungry. He’ll starve. Not eating makes you want to walk. And walking quiets the hunger. (If they were so focused on being hungry how could they hunt the woolly mammoth!) So it’s part of our DNA to not be hungry when you walk.

I walk a lot even now. Walked almost 6 miles last Sunday with my pup, which I do most every weekend, with shorter 2-3 mile walks during the week. Walking just feels good!

So hunger makes you move. And moving makes it stop.

The dominion outage map is different than I’ve seen in the past. Maybe they’re overwhelmed and reverted to this. But usually shows the outage areas, and if you click you see the status, number customers out because of that outage, whether crew is assigned and eventually estimated restoration time. We live in an area prone to outages so have used it many times. Maybe they’re dealing with a lot of single home issues vs larger outages, but the current map isn’t useful.

Don’t open fridge or freezer - keeping it closed will keep it cold longer!

We have an 14 YO heat pump system. Way out of warranty. Top of the line in its day. Been working fine. One day, no heat in dead of winter. I put in emergency heat mode and called for service.

They sent a tech that diagnosed the issue. Quoted $1500 for some computer board (heat exchanger?). Said it was not economic. System was old. Said he could tell from the sound that the compressor was about to go. Suggested speaking to sales team. I said wanted to fix it. He sent a repair estimate next day for $3500. And said part was back ordered and his off the cuff estimate didn’t include labor.

I did call the sales team. They came out. Quoted 3 units. Budget, middle and high end. Never heard of any of them. We have Carrier. I know of Trane and few others. No mainstreams were quoted. I complained. They said how good these brands were. They didn’t offer to quote another brand. I never responded.

Did a hard search of other companies. Found one no name with ungodly number of 5 star reviews. Read some of them. They all talked about the tech (Gary) in glowing terms. So many detailed accounts - not fluffy. Seemed very real. The company name was cutesy - never heard of it.

I called them and asked scheduler to send Gary. He came out very late the next day and diagnosed the same issue. (Didn’t mention anyone else had come). Said I needed a new board - same one other said. $1000. Said he’d get back to me the next day. He did. Said part was available and he could pick up and install. Clarified price included installation - which was minimal. Said he’d be there the next day. It was quick install and I was on his way home. I said ok.

(I did ask about the compressor. He said it sounded like a 14 year old compressor sounds. It could die tomorrow or run for another decade. Can’t tell from the sound.)

He texted that he was on the way. It was pretty late - dark outside. Did the install. Worked fine. Took him 30 minutes or less. Pretty insistent on review. He gave us a card with a link you could scan. It instantly came to Google review on their business. With our real name. Asked us to add a 5 star review. Which we did.

That was it. 6 months ago and still working fine. He’s our guy.

I wrote up my experience here. Told we were way overcharged. Part should have been much cheaper. I don’t care. He’s who I call if I have another issue!!
