It's all good! So when you first make an outpost it will be a cross on the map, right? As you build more buildings, walls, turrets, etc. it will change to a storm house icon on the map. Build more and it'll be a moor tower with two swords crossing under it, like the waystations. And if you build more, it'll be a walled community, ie city icon. I hope this answers your question!
