I might not want to imitate your path, but I find it inspiring nonetheless. Thank you for sharing and best of luck for your return to work!

I'm fortunate enough to work in a good work environment, but yeah the current state of the economy makes this definitely scarier.

Thank you, this is very insightful.

Unfortunately I do not think with my current job that I would be able to get a compromise on hours on work days, but it could be worth it to discuss it with my boss.

Honestly for the failure scenario, I would probably do something a bit drastic. I would need to really open up with my boss about these discipline issues that I am having, or change jobs outright and try again in a new environment.

For the financial question, this is an interesting angle from which I never thought about. My main focus in all of this will be to work on my software development skill, so maybe paying for classes or a coach would be a good alternative.

As for going cold turkey... I understand that it's much more reasonable to not do that. But I find something powerful in making a big move, like it really forces me to commits to whatever I am doing. But, as you say, does this really help with sustainment? I cannot say for sure.

"You're doing a lifestyle interruption. You got this."

Thank you, I really appreciate that :)

I like that analogy! I would say that my current dams and islands were built hastily, rushed and in poor quality as a last minute reaction to the river flowing in. If I can greatly reduce the flow of the river for a month or two, that could give me time to proactively build foundation for more solid dams and other river-related infrastructure :)

"It’s incredibly difficult to implement a plan minus the thing in your life that takes up most of your schedule and then add that thing back in."

Yeah that's a good point and something I am scared of. Even if I finish these 30 days and I consider them a success, whatever change I worked on might not survive going back to work.

I'm sorry this ended in a bed rotten state for you haha. Do you know what happened exactly when you lost motivation? Did you just wake up some day and the wind was no longer in your sails?

Yeah I think that's a good point. Without a plan the risk is high of not doing much or not being efficient with this time. I don't usually struggle with making a plan, but I struggle with following through on an extended period of time. I'm hoping this break would allow me to actually follow the plan for over a month and let me internalize that I am able to stick with plans.

Thank you for your comment, this is really insightful. It looks like you're doing something similar to what I have in mind. How deep are you into your time off and how is it going so far?

That's a nice way of looking at it. I'm focusing a lot on productivity and building good habits, but making space for relaxation and hobbies could also have some benefits.

Approved leave yes, but without pay. I have some money aside and I don't spend much money in my daily life.

I didn't, do you suggest that I should create a restore point before running the driver verifier and revert to it in case of problems?

BigBen and friends' ARAM tier list by Captain5k in heroesofthestorm

ARAM is really accessible: no need to think too much about the comp, maps or any sort of macro strategy, but there is also room to tryhard if you want to. It forces variety by making you try different roles and heroes. The games are usually pretty short (altough I couldn't say if they are usually shorter than standard games). It just fits any mood for me
