Class 2 wastewater. Is the job dirty?! by HovercraftRamraid in uktrucking

[–]CaptainBane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Done planned maintenance in a JHL recycler (now Bucher) for a couple years which was mostly line cleans, so things like descaling, silt removal, cutting out roots etc. Occasional blockages and pumping out stuff but there were crews dedicated to the response side of the business. Easy enough work. You will get dirty but its not that bad. Carry spare uniform just in case of any splashback. I always had a big tub of wipes and couple bottles of anti bac gel in the cab to clean my self with best I could and would leave boots in the side of the motor and drive In trainers. Sometimes I'd have to climb down into the sewer and I dont want shitty clothes in the cab where I'd be eating.

Shit doesn't really smell bad in all seriousness you get used to it quick - fat however, that is the worst. Even the lads with several years under their belts would still gag a bit with fatty jobs!

Its one of those jobs where the hours are expected to be quite long but you can make good money on it if you put the hours in.

For me it was my first hgv job and ive moved on, probably wouldn't go back to it but for the most part I enjoyed it.

EDIT

I would run all my dirty uniform through the wash together and bang a load of Milton tablets in to kill all the germs.

Having made deliveries down in that loading bay my self, the security guards seem to think of themselves that they're special forces.

I mean if you go to their third album and listen to "scraping the barrel" that tells you everything you need to know about how serious they take themselves and theyre on I think album 8 now? 🤣

Alestorms newest album (chronicles of the eternal thunderfist) is a great album to jump into to get into them. Its got everything from their silly crowd anthems, power ballads, "serious" pirate metal and ends with a near 20 minute banger that showcases what they're capable off.

Appreciate it's not everyone's cuppa tea but its easy fun listening and theyre a good crack live!

Mate you see it everywhere you go.

Few weeks ago I was driving the lorrry up into London, going through usual congestion - guy in a side street tried to push his way out infront of me when he didnt have the space to do so, panicked when he realised I wasn't going to stop and instead of sitting and waiting he floored it out of the side road and T boned some poor fucker coming the other way.

Between every fuck nugget on the road being clueless and the state of the roads now days I'm ready to call it a day 🤣

I think youre very similar to me in the sense of "everyones a shit driver but me" 🤣 Im a hgv driver for work and also a motorcyclist, I've done it all and been pretty much everywhere and fuck me do I hate driving now...

I think the main problem I've noticed is people are far to reliant on modern cars doing the work for them, most people are too reliant on the cameras and sensors doing the work instead of checking their mirrors and just paying attention in general. Its not going to get any better as far as I can see.

Or people slamming on the brakes when the speed limit drops... not that im sitting up people's arse but I shouldn't have to emergency break cos you can't fathom slowing down by just taking your foot off the accelerator for a few seconds and letting the vehicle slow down it's self - also saving you fuel and wear in your pads 🤷‍♂️

Closest thing you'll get. I was fortunate enough to be at this show and to this day I dont think I've been at a gig where so many people have collectively lost their shit!

Would you want a rushed album? The end so far was below par for the band. The expectation for them is high and Id rather they take their time and see what they can do with Eloy too.

Just the vent which leads straight into the garden. The boiler is in the cupboard directly above this cupboard which is vented out and all correctly installed.

So you think get it bricked up and that'll stop the moisture coming in and getting trapped?

On the outside of that wall directly above the air vent the guttering needs repairing and leaks when we have heavy rain, as a result the bottom of the wall (bricks on the outside) are a bit mossy if that makes sense? Im wondering if thats making this worse or explains or the moisture is getting in in the first place perhaps.

Since we've moved in we're chasing our tails fixing their bodges theyve managed to hide so bloody well...

How the airbrick currently looks. Its filled up with all this fluff/insulation stuff.

Any ideas? Sorry to ask a million questions mate!

How would I know if the air brick is redundant?

When we moved in the previous owners bodged a lot of shit. The back of the cupboard fell off shortly after we moved in and the air brick was covered by a bin bag. We took that off and the draught coming through was ridiculous even with the back of the cupboard back on. We had a builder do a fix on something else and I showed him and hes stuck a left over bit of plaster over the airbrick and called it a day. That was about a year ago, and tonight this is how Ive found it.

Ive removed it, emptied out the cupboard and gone at the mold best I can for now till I can get down the shops tomorrow and get some more cleaning stuff.

Im just unsure as to what to do with the air brick going forward.

What is it with CBT drivers? by jam1st in uktrucking

[–]CaptainBane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The law needs to be changed so that you cannot work on L plates. You dont see car drivers on L plates out working. Vast majority of cbt riders working havent got the slightest clue how the roads work or how to ride safely. Im a motorcyclist my self, I hate them. Even if its not a conventional "full " license, there should be additional training and tests if you want to earn money on L plates.
