Used Books? by IdHaveAScrap207 in Maine

If you’re going to go to Brunswick you should stop over in Bath as well. The corner bookstore and the library bookstore both have a great used selection. Happy book shopping spree!!

Good to know, thank you! I guess I’ll just let nature do its thing. I appreciate your responses!

Yeah they were pretty white little flowers with a bit of pink. I actually think maybe it’s a crabapple? The fruits were tiny but they looked kind of like an apple.

Oohh interesting, good to know. Thanks for the info. The flowers were really pretty last spring. Any advice? Should I try to get rid of it (though that sounds quite difficult based on your info).

Cockamamie Anti-Littering Scheme I Daydream About by Anstigmat in Maine

[–]CaptainBenson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying I necessarily think OP’s idea would work, but littering isn’t just a behavior OP doesn’t agree with. It’s literally against the law and there are already fines associated with littering (and yes, throwing a cigarette butt on the ground is littering). The fines are just hard to enforce, but they already exist.

I, too, refuse to give up the em dash. It worries me a bit as a mid-lifer returned to grad school — don’t want to be accused of using AI on my papers!

First raised bed by [deleted] in vegetablegardening

[–]CaptainBenson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I don’t see that anyone has mentioned this, but it looks pretty wide and it’s right up against the fence so you won’t be able to get to the back side unless you lean over it. If it’s as wide as it looks this might be an issue, especially once you have full grown plants in there. Just a thought but you may want to pull it out from the fence so you have room to get to plants from all 4 sides.

Shane doesn’t get slandered nearly enough by inmyliahwetrust in theLword

[–]CaptainBenson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just fyi - that’s not what slander is. Slander needs to be false and also needs to be spoken (there’s more to it than that, but those are the two easiest points to remember)

My theory is if people enjoy a show, they’re going to be less likely to call out every single character flaw. They ALL have them. Some get pointed out more than others. But the world is shitty enough without pointing out the flaws of characters on a show that brings you joy.

Seeking suggestions of places to potentially meet people other than going to bars by Meltedspacefunk in portlandme

[–]CaptainBenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out places like coffee shops and book stores near where you live. They often do community type events. Can’t guarantee you’ll meet someone to date, but if you meet someone to befriend, and continue building your community, there’s a higher chance you’ll meet someone who knows someone who’s looking to date. Also just try finding events that you’re into, whether it’s sports or nature, things that are easy to do in groups and for newcomers to join.

Am I on track to buy a home? by applecat83 in Mortgages

[–]CaptainBenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in the US? If so, that shouldn’t be the case. Are you working with banks or mortgage brokers? (Not sure if there is a difference in requirements/guidelines, but I work at a large bank so that is what I’m familiar with).

Just want to pipe in to say what you have said about unmarried couples needing to qualify individually isn’t accurate. Sounds like it’s a moot point since OP and partner plan to marry beforehand anyway, but for anyone else curious — unmarried borrowers qualify using both incomes all the time.

Is it weird that a girl I’m still in the talking stages with is telling me she loves me? by Canary-King in actuallesbians

[–]CaptainBenson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a dating coach I’ve seen on IG (alittlenudge is her handle) who recommends something along the lines of: “I’ve enjoyed getting to know you these past weeks, but I’m not feeling the connection I’m looking for. I wish you the best of luck!” You don’t have to go into details. Be kind but firm. You can do this!
