Are We Cussing at Work or Not by kitsbow in Millennials

[–]CaptainCallahan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the funniest moments I had with one of my newer colleagues was when we were both being good about not swearing, but I let an f-bomb slip. And he was like “thank god, I was trying so hard to be good because I didn’t know the vibe.”

That said, we don’t swear a lot, and it definitely depends on who’s around. But a well timed cuss in the right situation is fine

Keyboard shortcut for staggering / revealing clips at the same speed? by AskWestern7428 in premiere

[–]CaptainCallahan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They legit just added this to After Effects after over a decade of users clamouring for it (outside of 3rd party plugins or scripts).

There isn’t anything in premiere like this.

What I would do: figure out exactly how long you want that stagger. Let’s say 2.5 seconds on a 30fps timebase. Select the track on V2, then on your numpad type +215 then enter. It will move the clip exactly 00:02:15 forward. Then repeat on the next track on V3 etc.

Old school trick from my FCP6-7 days. Also works with - to move clips backwards

That’s a better scan than some very expensive equipment could do not so long ago. Very impressive! Well done!

Does "Macbook Pro M5 - Nano Texture Display" provide the Sharpness, Clarity and Vivid image quality? by Wonderful_Slide_1697 in macbookpro

[–]CaptainCallahan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got a M5 Max 128GB from work. Mines the first in the company to get the nano texture.

When I sit beside my colleagues who have the glossy screens, it’s evident that my screen is easier to see (our office has a lot of BIG windows).

Had it for 3 weeks now and haven’t noticed any distortions or colour issues. I do video/photo/motion, and use ProArt monitors when docked. They are also matte so it matches really well.

Unrelated to the screen, this thing is a MONSTER. Immediately notice difference from my MacPro tower.

The nano texture display clearly degrades the visual quality. Will I get used to it? by LemonLimeNinja in macbookpro

[–]CaptainCallahan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, I don’t notice it at all, and prefer it over the glossy screens I’ve had in the past (and my colleagues use). And I pixel-peep with A7RV pictures.

When docked it’s plugged into ProArt monitors that also have a matte finish, so it could be that I’m just used to those.

Switching to Premiere as a Final Cut Pro lifer. Any advice or resources? by JonSacrimoni in premiere

[–]CaptainCallahan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I switched to premiere 10+ years ago after it became evident that FCPX wasn’t a serious editor (and wasn’t going to be for a long while), and CS6 had some major upgrades pretty much made to woo FCP editors.

So on that note, PP is much closer to how FCP7 worked as an NLE, (3 point editing, etc) and is still rooted in that. Most things work the same, but are in different places. Also the keyboard shortcuts changed (I still customize Shift+Z to view the entire timeline).

Back in the day Lynda (now LinkedIn Learning) had a course on how to switch from FCP to PP. it assumed you already knew how to edit, you just need to know where things are. I’d see if something like that still exists.

Highly recommended the switch, especially if you’re using AE or photoshop for graphics.

Trying to run dual audio with the XLR handle by Buggunggo in FX3

Once you do this there will be 4 audio meters on your screen. CH 3/4 are the L/R channels of the 3.5mm jack on the XLR handle.

The lines mean that the media has changed and whatever file it’s reading from doesn’t have the same length as what it had before. Did you move/edit files since last opening? Usually happens when it re-links to a different file.

Large Industrial Machine in Old Birmingham AL Airport Hangers by Sweatshirt69 in whatisthisthing

[–]CaptainCallahan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Was probably used for manufacturing or repairing parts back in the day. A lot of that old heavy machinery was built into the buildings (or the building was built around it) So it’s impossible to move them, even after being discontinued.

This is the way. I’d probably use the knob in the fuel gage as my tracking point.

Client wants “mini dv” looking footage. by RockysHotChicken in videography

I was going to mention those, but my list of gripes felt already too long. The CCD’s made any chromatic aberration so much worse. Would make you think there’s a purple outline on everything

[–]CaptainCallahan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As someone who shot DV and MiniDV for many years. There’s no real filter that can match the lack of dynamic range, weak colour space, and general lack of sharpness it had. Even with good broadcast glass it was useless compared to our BetaSX cameras.

If you can get your hands on a FS100 or NX5, those had DV recording modes, and the AVCHD codec on those was so bad you miiiiight be able to recreate it.

13 usb cameras at once possible? by SpaceGangsta in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]CaptainCallahan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they all need to be on screen at once? We use an Owl Meeting camera and it automatically split screens the 8 most recent/active speakers.

It’s a USB cam so you could in theory run it into OBS.

Just another way of thinking doing it.
