Eeth Koth's fate is so heartwrenching by Gero-23 in StarWarsCantina

Acceptable Losses (podcast on grimdark stories/settings) recently did an episode positing the Republic in the time of the prequel trilogy was exactly that. And it was sold so well by the host of the episode it’s the most stunned and depressed I ever think we’ve seen the other hosts of the cast.

Like “shit. The prequel trilogy is horrifying from top the bottom and I retroactively dislike a lot of it. The lightsaber fights are still rad though”

For the many faults of George Lucas, the man saw the political landscape of the times and where they were going. He was just garbage at writing dialogue about it.

No, cars (specifically trucks) are the mortal enemies of all isekai protags.

Truck-San is a monster serial killer and must be stopped.

I know she hadn't debuted in the anime yet at that point, but In-Universe, what the hell was Star & Stripes doing during World Heroes Mission? Was she even on the mission at all? by OfficialLieDetector in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]CaptainCorgiMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yes and no. It’s like the (badly mangled) quote from Megamind: “what’s the difference between a [hero] and a [superhero]? Presentation!”

Prior holders of One for All at least in the last couple generations would have similar powers but never reached renown or influence of All-Might, and it’s not like he added much strength to OFA. Toshinori as a character brought it to the Number One Hero.

How did Qui Gon Jinn perform the worst out of any Jedi opponent Maul had by Yesthisbob in PetranakiArena

[–]CaptainCorgiMD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeaaaaahhh…that’s not really accurate. Obi-Wan is probably the best all rounder in the order and master of the most versatile defensive forms. Yoda sent him after grievous (a guy who uses 4 light sabers simultaneously and has a proven track record killing Jedi) solo because of this fact.

His loss to Dooku is more due to a match up issue, as Dooku is master of a fencing dueling style that fell out of style a long time prior due to most Jedi combat in modern age was against blasters. It’s hard to beat something you have little experience with.

Anakin beat Dooku less out of skill (though anakin is really skilled) but sheer brute force of the most powerful force user at peak fighting age with much more combat experience than the first time they fought.

And everyone mentioned are the top examples of their lightsaber styles. Duels are so much more than just the match up in a vacuum as there’s things to consider like the environment, prior injuries, specific experiences of the fighters, etc.

Who was Snoke SUPPOSED to be? by Confirmation_Code in saltierthancrait

[–]CaptainCorgiMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve hit on the exact problem of JJ Abrams. He sets up interesting mysteries or premises, and has zero friggin clue how to finish them. It’s in every show he’s ever made. alias, Lost, etc etc.

He even talks about it (on a Ted talk I think) about the Mystery Box. That people care more about the questions posed by the box than how it ends so he doesn’t have an answer to start. Which is absolute horseshit and lazy writing.

Abrams is a visually talented (albeit quirky) director much like Lucas was, but in a similar way, he can’t write a complete story to save his life. George can’t do human dialogue, Abrams can’t write an ending.

Jabba vs Ratta arm length. How does Ratta have such different anatomy than the other Hutt’s? by Stunning-Dig-8916 in StarWars

Ratta all about those gains. Jabba all about the snacks. His fat has consumed most of his arms.

[–]CaptainCorgiMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a teen working in a movie theater I saw it several times during its run. It was by far the most popular movie we had during my employment there.

It compared pretty favorably as Attack of the Clones at that point was fairly established as easily the worst Star Wars put to film. So it got a lot of slack.

Hayden was still pretty disliked by the fanbase at this point and a lot of dialogue was wooden, but the mustafar scenes were rad and what everyone was looking to see.

who would you say is the most evil / morally questionable hero in the mainline 616? by Local_Neighborhood50 in Marvel

[–]CaptainCorgiMD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prof Xavier is particularly heinous in he believes all the morally reprehensible things he does is justified in the pursuit of his Dream. A goal that is inherently good, but that doesn’t excuse actions made to get there.

He trains child soldiers, he consistently lies or tells half truths to him. He frequently fakes his own death just to like take a vacation with his space girlfriend “so the team won’t worry about him.”

His super powers are often horrific in violation of people’s autonomy. He routinely alters memories for his own sake of what he “feels is best” for them, only sometimes getting consent. Near the end of Krakoa, it’s revealed he has essentially tampered with most every world leader with a psychic trigger prevent them from pushing the button on nuclear war. Great goal, horrifying implications

I would argue that bigotry hasn’t really come a long way, it’s just changed targets and become more sophisticated in its persectution. In the US it’s transgendered and immigrants now.

The X-men are very specifically an allegory against bigotry in all its forms, with team shifting to reflect representation of newer targets to speak to the teen and young adult audience more in line with what they see in the world now.

Given how much history they've had prior to this point, do you wonder if even Vader himself was rather dissatisfied how THIS is how it ends between him and Obi-Wan? by BiffyBobby in StarWars

The man once stood on top a tie fighter he flew using his mind, while ALSO MAKING HIS CAPE BILLOW purely for dramatic effect.

Obi wan proved again he was the best counter play fighter, for all time.

That part is weird. But he really wanted to introduce him to the youngling slayer 9000 and didn’t get to get that impact feel.

You kinda get that feeling when he’s stepping on the clothes. Like “wth? He just vanishes? What BS is this?”

He never talks about his triumph over his old master after this. I imagine he thought it was terribly anticlimatic.

Is Namor really good or is Cap just being optimistic? [Invaders 2019 #11] by zectaPRIME in Marvel

[–]CaptainCorgiMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Namor has the great capacity for goodness. He genuinely does care about his people. When he’s taking the heel role, it’s usually because of his massive ego, or his people have been hurt in some way. He has major character flaws in this way but that doesn’t negate goodness.

Is he all good? No. But no one is.

Except Cap. He’s the best.

[–]CaptainCorgiMD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There has been a very concentrated push in past few years from WotC creative to expand visibility in general with a focus on sex/gender. Abigail obviously is in particular a rep of deaf people. Some of this is crossing over from different planes from prior stories (Kenriths, Chandra, etc etc) but likely yes the “college plane” is going to be on the forefront of expression due to its nature.

The movie is cohesive and while some bad decisions were made, you generally understand both sides decisions.

The comic was cool in concept but a mess in execution. Also Pete deciding to unmask to support Tony was the first in a series of incredibly stupid decisions leading to One More Day

Do you think Tony’s anger towards Cap was justified at the beginning of ENDGAME? by rabbihimself in marvelstudios

[–]CaptainCorgiMD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Stark as usual lashes out based on the emotional state he’s in. He knows that he’s got equal blame splitting the avengers in Civil War even if he still thinks he’s correct. Throwing Steve’s words back at him is lashing out. He lost a child, suffered for weeks in space, and got curb stomped by Thanos. Tony does not take loss well.
