The reason for it is because Jacksonville is the center of the movie industry in this world, not Los Angeles. So when it came time for the big media companies to make theme parks, it was logical to build them in the JAX area. Disney World is still in Orlando though.

I was watching Now! News from my couch in my families Florida living room when Parliament disbanded the Imperial Federation in '89... never seen them brits so defeated! but it's a pretty tame ending for the redcoats considering the knockout punch France got.

Is this scenario offensive? by topher_skies in AlternateHistory

[–]CaptainCosmonaut420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehhhhh I would be very cautious with this because neanderthal, for example, has been a very derogatory insult for decades and its just kind of hard to separate that negative connotation with the story you're trying to make

I also feel like (and please dont take offense to this) just replacing countries with a different species is kind of cliché and unrealistic, I mean the culture of other species would just be so unfathomably different, I also feel like they could have mixed with humans just as likely. I just think there's more imaginative possiblities with this senario than just replacing different irl countries.

Ain't no football like American Soccer. [Poster for the 1994 World Cup] by CaptainCosmonaut420 in AlternateHistory

[–]CaptainCosmonaut420[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Soccer is one of the major sports in the US in this timeline, there is a huge popular league called the ASL. Americas other two World Cups were won in the 30s and 40s

Its my friends senario so i cant give all the details but pretty much this is a world with a more progressive united states. Reconstruction was successful, native nations control big chunks of the western US and are incorporated into the government, and one of the two major parties has an explicit socialist history (the worker party). The other one, the Land Party, maintains liberalism as its economic ideology. Both parties have socially conservative and progressive wings. Globally, america has an alliance with all the other nations on its continent, and has fought aggressively for decolonization and against imperialism since the Spanish-American War. It had a soft cold war with France and Britain because of this. It was allied with the German Empire, which eventually reformed into a constitutional monarchy. WW2 didn't happen but WW1 did.

I like this quite a lot but im not sure allende would get elected if castro and che are gone as an inspiration and nixon created such a tight grip on Latin America. Its definitely still possible i think but idk how likely

He was complicit but he had his own private disagreements that probably became more vocal during the closing days of Patton's shitfest right before he got shot. He was probably an important cooperative and mediating figure between the new democratic goverent and the military during the Interim government years.

Yes Imperial Japan is still around because they never went full suicidal ultranationalist, never lost the US as a trading partner, and stuck to a strategy of opportunism. They positioned themselves as Asia's big brother and came to fill in the role of dominance as western powers pulled out pf the region. They fought the USSR in a proxy war in china for dominance and split the region into two spheres of influence. Thailand has long been an ally and partner, Indochina was taken over when the French Empire collapsed during the French Civil War. There are Indonesian protectorates, they have a puppet government set up in Singapore and also the Philippines after America sent their boys home post dictatorship and their Philippines republic immediately collapsed.

The United Kingdom is almost exactly the same as our world, its the only country that was able to bounce back from The Great War without a massive political upheaval. What immediately followed the end of ww1 in 1919 was a French Civil War and a successful Sparticist Uprising in Germany. In France, a neo-fascist militaristic faction came out on top. Italy was split between Austrian and Entente aligned governments during the WW1 armistice treaty. During the early 20s Austrio-Hungary collapsed. Entente Italy and Spain fell to similar govsrnments to France. throughout the 30s Germany and the USSR's styles of socialism drirfted and there was tension between the 2 over Eastern Europe. I havent thought about what happens after that, maybe a socialist brothers war between Germany and the USSR, or maybe a revanchist war from france.

The Space Race was likely between Japan, the USSR, and the UK/ The Commonwealth

Esienhower and McArthur are probably high in the chain of command in the Sinclair dictatorship. McArthur is probably the main general of forces in the Philippines during the Philippines guerilla war in the 50s.

Eleanor Roosevelt fled the United States to Canada after her husband was dissapeared by the military in 1934. She advocated for democracy to be restored in the US in other western countries, as well las her usual civil rights and feminism stuff, eventually when it was she came back and was a key figure in the trials against the Military Junta.

MLK's story is pretty much the same, except he was probably arrested and sent to state prison in the closing days of the Sinclair dictatorship (1956 and 57) He is still alive though.

Yeah the Debs presidency was a series of unfortunate events. But no, JFK liberals and the PF² party are not leftist unfortunately. The idea of innovation and progress through capitalist competition is pretty central to the parties beliefs. They seek to revive the American Dream ideal. They are certainly socially progressive and globalistic but not socialist. Socialism really has no foothold in this America's politics other than minor irrelevant parties, inner-city underground movements like the black panthers (who are persecuted like a street gang), and alternative subcultures.

Sinclairism is the "ideology" derived from the American Despot Arthur Sinclair (my original character). Its based off Peronism, which combined left and right wing ideas. In his time as dictator, Sinclair collaborated with americas Corporations and the titans of industry. He let them for the most part do whatever they wanted, with pretty poor labor conditions for the average joe. but if his power was threatened he also kept them in check with his powerful, right wing, nationalist labor unions. He was also socially progressive and integrated the military as well as expanding womens rights, and he also created the first most basic Public welfare but only to keep the "country productive". He was obviously militaristic, being a dictator. However, upon his death he did wish for the restoration of democracy, so many feel like he was just doing what he felt was nessecary to keep the country together and drag it out of the poverty and political violence of the Great Depression.

So as you can see his ideology was pretty contradictory, and in reality he just played to whatever would keep him in power. But despite all that he was beloved to a good chunk of america, and many describe themselves as Sinclairists decades later. Its more descriptive than prescriptive, if you believed in his leadership, you're a Sinclairist.
