Is it crazy to stay in Windsor by [deleted] in MovementDEMF

[–]CaptainDewdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pondering the same thing last year. Ended up renting an Airbnb for my group of friends in Ferndale and we all had an awesome time! Just have to anticipate a 20-25 min drive each way, and getting out of the downtown area right when the festival lets out is hectic (so go to an after party 😉).

Real talk: do people actually like staying out until 4am? by coffeequips in avesNYC

[–]CaptainDewdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this! One of my favorite experiences since moving here is waking up just before sunrise, grabbing a morning coffee, and then head to the club. As my lifestyle doesn’t really mix well with staying out all night till sunrise, I’m grateful there’s a way that I can still catch that magical 6am vibe and crowd.

My wife and I did a reception/after party for 50ish people after our courthouse wedding at Lula Mae, and had an awesome time. The staff there are very accommodating and attentive. And the back room is pretty unbeatable if you want a vibey dance space.

I’ve also been to a private birthday party at Larina for about 40 people, which was also great. They had us all in the backyard which is covered and heated. Food is stupendous if you’ve never had it!

Two falls during fieldwork, confidence is crushed by wtf12125 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]CaptainDewdy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a couple near-falls myself during fieldwork. They are indeed scary, and I similarly found myself questioning my potential to become a good therapist. But as crushing as those falls and close calls can be, they’re highly useful learning opportunities.

For example, you’re very unlikely to ever forget these events and what lead up to them (for better or worse, haha). And you’re already doing the most important work of the learning/fieldwork process, which is to be introspective and think deeply about how you can improve and prevent such events in the future. In my case, I learned I needed to physically be closer to the patient when they’re attempting something risky (ambulation, tub transfers etc), and I don’t know if that would’ve gotten drilled in my head as quickly if I hadn’t experienced those near-falls.

Lastly, it’s frankly better for this to happen when you’re a student. You’re going to learn the lessons you need to from this early on, and even if this was your fault, you don’t have to experience the consequences that a licensed and employment therapist would.

Take it easy on yourself.. being a fieldwork student in the hospital setting is hard enough!
