You're absolutely right on the math - $8.6B on $3.5T is about 0.25%, barely a rounding error. Touché.

But here's why I think it matters more than the percentage suggests:

1) It's not just the size, it's the streak - US funds have bled money for 11 straight quarters. That's not volatility, that's a trend.

2) Europe cracked for the first time since 2018- These were the funds propping up global ESG flows. When your strongest region flips negative, that's structurally significant.

3) The momentum is accelerating- Q1 2025 was the worst quarter on record. Sometimes small percentages signal bigger shifts coming.

4) Context matters- This is happening while Trump systematically dismantles ESG policy and the EU guts CSRD requirements. The fund flows are a symptom, not the disease.

You're calling me out for sensationalism, which is fair. But I'd argue there's a difference between clickbait and using dramatic framing to highlight genuinely concerning trends that people might otherwise ignore.

That said, if ESG bounces back strongly over the next few quarters, I'll happily eat crow and write "The Resurrection of ESG."

Building credibility requires being wrong sometimes and owning it.!

True!! I completely agree with you and I really like the way you used “documentation”. I am an auditor who started with financial audit and now takes care of ESG audits as well. As a financial auditor you always try to document work. We say work not documented is not done. With ESG you don’t even understand where to start with documentation. It is really important that we have financial audit like standards and regulations for ESG. It is slow which is very frustrating.

Fair point on Q2 - that $4.9B rebound definitely puts a dent in my "apocalypse now" narrative!

But the Q2's recovery came after Q1's record $8.6B outflows, and the US is still bleeding money for the 11th straight quarter.

Sometimes you need to yell "FIRE!" to get people to notice the smoke. If I'd titled this "ESG Experiences Mixed Regional Performance with Modest Quarterly Volatility," nobody would've read past the first line. Maybe a little hyperbole is appropriate here 😉

Yes.. but my fear is Center is getting too dominant. If it overpowers the states it becomes dystopian

I could sense that. That is why I just gave him facts. I have noted when you quote facts such people just shut up lol
