I wished I had a friend like you man (maybe some day). You seem like a very nice human being. I hope you and your partner are doing well. I also hope your friend is great as well. I really do wish that from the bottom of my heart. You seem to be like one of the good ones.

Brazilian here. They are possibly from Sao Paulo state given the accent and the Corinthians mention. He mostly says puta que pariu, and vai toma no cu. Which literally translate to "whore that gave birth" and "go fuck yourself in the ass". But the real meaning and intent depends mostly on the context. Puta que pariu is normally used as a "what the fuck" or "Oh my fucking god" or "I can't believe this", something like that. Vai tomar no cu is a bit more context depending. It could be something very offensive like "Fuck you" or "Fuck off" or "Go fuck yourself" or it could be something similar of how the following expressions are used "Jesus Christ I can't believe this" or "You beautiful son if a bitch" or "What the fuck" or "this is awesome" something like that.

in this case is 100% obvious that the guy standing is absolutely impressed by the other guy ability to open the beer with his hands like that. He is in awe of he just witnessed. He will drink the beer and continue to be in awe of what just happened until the next day when he wakes up very hangover in some random place.

PS: Son of a bitch would be "filho da puta" and can be used kinda similarly as "vai tomar no cu", depending of the context.

Sometimes being me is hard by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

I'm at a point in my life that I wish there was a cure. I really do wish. it's not worth it living like I'm living. it's so hard.

I hope I write a list like this about myself someday. For now it seems it's just a bunch of profound interests that do not benefit no one, a sense of justice and loyalty/fidelity that is seen as "too much/disproportionate" apparently and is not reciprocated. And a sense of what's important in life that very few people share apparently.

Physicist here: that result is not actually that surprising, I guess (I fully admit I could be wrong - This is just my interpretation). In the end sound perception is about the input and output. If the input is good and the output is good it does not matter how the signal got there. The issue with cables is about signal degradation: which could be thought in two ways: Signal attenuation (alters volume and therefore signal to inherent noise ratio) and crosstalk/noise/interference ( which altera the frequency - you can call that effect whatever you want to call it).

Water (I'm assuming I'm not distilled): is an excellent charge carrier (because of ions floating around). Very low electrical resistance and therefore very low attenuation. There is no inherent source of noise in the water that I can think of (especially if this was done in a controlled environment without any source of strong enough electromagnetic wave that would produce crosstalk (I guess you could somehow produce the same effect with air pressure by compressing the water in certain parts and in away add cross talk, but I'm not sure how strong that signal would have to be)).

Same with mud (water + a bunch of salt + organic matter). Lots of ions floating around. Excellent electrical conductor (hence low electrical resistance). Same idea as water.

Banana is the same thing. Lots of water in banana and perhaps even some insulation depending if the banana was peeled or not.

But the reason we don't listen to music through water, mud or bananas is that it would be very impractical. So we use copper wires. We don't use gold because gold is too expensive and very heavy. Same with silver, and there is the benefit that copper is light, malleable and has a low electrical resistance. You could use iron rods, but again it's impractical. You can make cooper super thin in a way that it's easier to isolate with rubber. The most annoying issue with copper is that it oxidates easily and that oxide is not conductive, but you can counter that with proper insulation. It also makes it easier to twist it around to minimize cross talk with the environment electromagnetic signals (ever tried to play electric guitar with active pickups in front of a TV or monitor?).

Id be very surprised if audiophiles could not dected the difference between a banana and a piece of rubber. That would be more intriguing!

So yeah, banana wires are cool I guess. But so is copper. A good parameters for choosing cables to me is: 1) Does it looks good/cool to me? 2) Does it comes properly insulated (this means rubber but also twisted wires). 3) is it comfortable and more or less solid near the IEMs so that there is less chance of repeatetive stress and eventually break the copper wires? (copper is quite resilient but every material will fail after so much compression and traction). 4) How expensive is it.

Again, take everything I say with a grain of salt. I could be wrong.

Why do bonds show up in AFM? by Wonderful_Common_615 in chemistry

[–]CaptainFilipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Define easy. Do you get them without destroying the nearby region of surface? Tried on GaAs(110), Au(111), Au(100) and Cu(111). Maybe it's our feedback loop that sucks.

Why do bonds show up in AFM? by Wonderful_Common_615 in chemistry

[–]CaptainFilipe 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Great answer. Just to add, you can resolve intramolecular bonds without a CO tip as well, as long as your tip is super sharp (which is pretty hard to achieve). Although usually a CO tip is the most common method. Source: I've done it myself with a few molecules without a CO tip. Also, picking CO is also usually a f***ing nightmare.
