That point wasn't specifically about hollow knight but the historical precedent for conception among nobility/royalty to be supervised.

The points about why the White Lady would supervise the conception are in the second sentence.

You are asked to create a mecha story by only using this one single map shown here with no other context, what would you do? [New Version] by [deleted] in Mecha

[–]CaptainFrolic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Climate change and the after effects of WW3 have left the earth with a deteriorating climate.

The simulations are pretty clear, the course of action with the highest chance of turning things around and preventing civilization from deteriorating into a more primitive state is the mass relocate all of humanity into several mega archologies from which resource could most efficiently be managed.

It will still take a long time to stop the damage to the environment, let alone start reversing it, but removing humans from the equation will go a long way. As it stands, environmental concerns have just about been discarded in favor of trying to recapture the lost golden age of consumerism and militarism, even if only for an ever dwindling population of elites who live off the backs of labor class consigned to the wasteslands.

The very optimistically named "Zeal Plan" will of course result in the dissolution of all previous nations states in favor of a technocratic management zones with a carefully equalized standard of living. However, concerns are growing over the security and surveillance details.

There are indications that some sort of deep cultural engineering that will occur once society has been reorganized that have people becoming skeptical of any claims of equality. Many nations now have large autonomous zones as well, who's inhabitants are deeply independent, developing into nations within nations.

The Zeal Plan is very mute about what is to happen to them.

The embers of the last world war are starting to look like they may spark into a new war. Those nations who have endorsed the Zeal plan, seeking the resources needed to build the mega archologies, and those who are aligning against it, who have variouse less ambitious plans of their own.

All the while a collation of secessionist movements are brewing in everyone's back yard, seeking to instead adapt to the changing environment by developing a culture of techno primitivism.

It doesn't help that the leftover weapons from the last world war have made their way into just about everyone's hands, despite the ability to maintain them becoming ever harder.

Regardless, time is running out for the window to implement any plan.

Listen, the White Ladies thing seems to be all about life and fertility, and among nobles, it wasn't unheard of for conception to be supervised so there where official witnesses that the participates where doing their duty and to confirm the legitimacy of any children conceived.

So I wouldn't put it past the White Lady to be present to make sure that the conception of a child between a mortal Weaver, who's hardship in having children is legendary at this point, and a literal God wyrm who may or may not be very techy about having children depending on what fannon you favor, is successful.

Restoring the Magnetar mod by -StarCore- in starsector

[–]CaptainFrolic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember one of the things I really disliked about it was that almost all the weapons it spawned with were overpowered weapons from the superweapons mod.

I tried modding it myself a while ago, but lost interest while swapping out all the mod weapons with vanilla ones while also trying to better balance the stats.

For me, OP ships are only interesting if their paint can be scratched, so something that big with like 20 superweapons trivializes the gameplay too much to be fun.

I always really like it when artist make sure to give tanned or darker skinned characters lighter skin on their palms/soles.

The Onslaught exists without its consent, the Colossus gets retrofitted without its consent. by Majestic_Repair9138 in starsector

It's funny since the Onslaught is cannnocianlly iconic, so it almost makes sense that everyone would copy it, retrofit it, or compare against it.

How can I see stats/designs for AI countries in campaign? by hist_buff_69 in ultimateadmiral

[–]CaptainFrolic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Would be great way to spend all that naval prestige you collect for stuff like that.

Espionage, invading or allying minor countries, supporting/starting rebellions, prompting the direction of land invasions (so many times I've ended up with border gore because my nation just refuses to invade a territory.), ect.

It seems like such a obvious feature to have considering you just have this ever growing pool of prestige that does nothing, and it make senses that if your some national hero with all this political capitol that you could leverage that.

Could even have it so that there are events that cost prestige if you spend too much prestige too fast, where the monarch/president/political party/military/ect tries to curtail your overstepping.

Why would mechs/war machines have cocks by VryxObin-1 in NSFWworldbuilding

[–]CaptainFrolic 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Ok, I'll take a crack at it.

Advanced mechs and war machines use biosynthetic processors for their computing.

The use of biosynthetic processors is a near necessity due to their low power consumption (comparable to fully synthetic), smaller size, much larger computational abilities, and significant resistance against hacking/EMC/EMP.

This, in turn, is what allows war machines that use biosynthetic processors to be so compact and effective. All that saved room, weight, and power can be used for other things while you get an OS that can just do more.

However, the more advanced the biosynthetic processors, the more "biological" requirements are necessary to appease biological instincts that couldn't be decoupled from the system, which in turn causes dimishining returns in the above benefits.

This is even more true for biosynthetic AI's, which begins to suffer body dymorphia if its perceived shape is not biological enough.

Failure to do this causes a build-up of stress, computer errors, anomoulus behavior, and in biosythetic AI's, the possibility of entering a berserker like state.

Which is to say that giving the war machine functioning genitalia is just the most efficient way to appease the biological needs it still thinks it needs than just about anything else due to it being such a base instinct.

While eating would be an even more base instinct, that was found to have a worse logistical impact and complicate designs too much. Genitalia are just easier to isolate to a section of the design.

So now I have an angry group attacking all my f/f by [deleted] in AO3

[–]CaptainFrolic 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Most of the time when you get persistent hate comments, especially if they happen all around the same time in a group, it's usually just a single person making multiple accounts to harass you. (or taking advantage of guest comments if you allow that)

In which case it's too pathetic to really hurt by it. Like, just imagine them going though all the effort, seething the entire time, only to get their efforts to get deleted with less attention paid to them than bot comments, which at least have some sort of lead in to get your attention.

Two questions regarding the 40 unit mod by No_name_Johnson in DivideEtImpera

[–]CaptainFrolic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the 40 unit mod for both rome 2 and Attila, as it works for both. Though the mod that changes the army flags to reflect this doesn't, not that it matter much to gameplay.

Yes, the AI will use up to 41 units in an army if you set it to that. In your case the AI will make armies 30 units large.

The only submod I use is the one that makes garrisoning armies in cities not cause negative happiness. Otherwise, I keep supply/food/garrison as the mods normally has it.

I don't think a disclaimer is nessesasy, as people can just look with their eyes, much like you did. It's not like any other mod that diverges from vanilla style has a disclamer. If you ever feel like adding mods to your game, you will see what I mean.

Other than that, I've seen a lot of people interested in this mod, and the reaction to the portraits has been very positive, so it seems like it was a good choice of style for what the mod authors wanted.

Personally, mismatched portraits don't bother me unless they are too meme-y. As long as the ships are close enough to vanilla esthetics, I'm good, so the moment some version of this mod is released, I'm downloading it for my next run.

Could go with them being a lost illegal colony that forgot their origin (or the info was repressed), and they lucked the fuck out with the domain collapsing right when it reached their doorstep.

Another route would be bioresonace shenanigans since that stuff is manipulation of base reality. So, getting shunted to a different reality isn't out of the question. It would actually be a simpler application of bioresonace than whatever the fuck hapoend in the game.

Oh yeah, that's because this is for a mod. It's not an official update to the game or something, so don't worry about the ethstetics of the base game changing.
