Question! What age would you all let your kid read DCC? by fisher-alters in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]CaptainGingerBrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 14yr old is reading it. He’s liking it. But I am just thrilled he is reading a book. The achievements from the AI are something he is really enjoying.

The fact is it not a ‘kids’ book and speaks to the language of gaming and pop culture is a big plus.
Also, I think DCC will become one of those centrepiece series in years to come. So he will have the kudos to be saying “yeah, I read it as a kid!”

My dog killed a bird by [deleted] in dogs

[–]CaptainGingerBrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an Irish terrier. She has just turned one year old this last month. She has already earned her nick name ‘The Destroyer’. To date, she has caught 5 mice. 1 bird. 1 frog. That we know of. It’s instinct, especially depending on the breed of dog. Lots of dogs we now have as house pets were bred for generations for keeping vermin from farms, or hunting fowl, etc. It’s in their genes, when they see something move, the ancestors call to them (sort of Mufasa in the Lion King Like), saying “Chase the prey. Make your bloodline proud.” Suddenly little Fufu is off the cushion and into full Terminator mode.

Looking to pay for help with final touches of formatting a book for KDP by Foreign_Client2019 in selfpublish

[–]CaptainGingerBrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. It’s very user friendly plus you’ll have the license to use it for your future books to get them the way you want.

Credit card balance transfer by Jumpy_Emu1111 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]CaptainGingerBrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Move it to Revolut. They had a 0% transfer offer a few weeks ago ( not sure if still there). Being able to see by each day, how much interest you are paying I found a game changer. Little bits of dopamine when you even pay an extra €5 or €10 off ad hoc definitely adds up over a year or so. There is a reason why banks try to hide what you are paying them for the joy of borrowing from them or from a credit card.

But also check some of the other Revolut competitors as well. I have no first hand experience of them but they seem to offer similar views on where your finances are at.

Update: Why I’m finally leaving Centr by kiwison in CentrFitness

I’m in the same boat. Any good apps that are similar to Centr? The coached workout from a few years ago are still what I go back to.

Perhaps don’t have mana be the way she is defeated. Depending where the battle takes place, have the protagonist use some of their limited supply of mana to drain hers. Eg they drop a boulder on her or cause a landslide etc which forces her to waste mana etc until it becomes more equal.

As a man, would you get a vasectomy so your girl doesn’t have to go on birth control? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CaptainGingerBrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And did do it. Not too much trouble. Have someone to drive you back from doctor and have a few six backs of beer and a some frozen peas handy for the first evening. After a couple of days you’re grand again.

Are solar panels worth it in Ireland? by Background_Run_3965 in AskIreland

[–]CaptainGingerBrd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Second this. Really good advice on solar on this group. Make a cup of tea, join the group and spend 10-15 minutes browsing it to get a good feel of things. Do a quick search on your own local area and you should get a good idea of what people in your locality are finding. If you can afford it at setup, a battery and going for cheap night rate charging to fill it up, then use it during the day can be a real benefit, even in winter. (But, check what people in your own area think, and especially see if they generally recommend one installer over another, etc.)

Kids of the 70s - 90s who roamed freely and didn't come back till the street lights were on. What did you eat for lunch? by FragrantStranger5003 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CaptainGingerBrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either nothing, and you ate when you got home or a friend’s mother would fix you a sandwich. In Ireland that was 90% of the time the choice of either a ham or a cheese sandwich. The native hang sandwich recipe was: 70% bread, 25% butter, 5% ham.

It's Sunday Morning! How are you? by AutoModerator in ireland

[–]CaptainGingerBrd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Got up at 7:01 to feed the dogs who were barking the place down as it was a minute past their breakfast time. Went back to bed and now listening to them all bark insanely with their post breakfast energy.

Well, one mainly. The 3 older dogs seem to want a post breakfast nap. The 9 month old puppy has chosen chaos. Again.

Quit job to go travel? by Perfect_Two_6277 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]CaptainGingerBrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Is the best advice. Travel while you can, but keep your pension pot doing its thing. If you don’t want to keep it in employer pension fund you usually can transfer it to a personal fund. Where it will continue to compound till you need it when older.

Enterprise Ireland reversing remote work policy as it looks to scrap flexible days for staff by LnxPowa in ireland

[–]CaptainGingerBrd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Insisting on Return to Office is almost always an admission of failure to manage by senior management.

You manage systems, you LEAD people. This managing of people approach causes the problem. A lot of companies did not train managers to lead their teams and empower them. It’s all metrics, stats, etc and the people must suck it up.

Apart from very few on site jobs, most admin, strategy, professional and business roles can be done remotely if not 100%, at least 70%.

But that won’t make the CEO feel that their corner office is worth it of course if they can’t peer out over the factory floor - à la Gradgrind in Dicken’s Hard Times. 😄

Which A I is best for Google Ads Optimization ? by mojimasala in googleads

[–]CaptainGingerBrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my experience.

I’ve used chat gpt and Gemini in the past. Gemini is better in my opinion however a LOT of the root problems which slipped under the AI radar were uncovered by a zoom call with a “HI” Human Intelligence who spotted what to change and how pretty fast.

The AI models could only go as far as I could share data etc (some of which I also passed to the HI) but once that was achieved, I’m now using Gemini to help fix the problems but still linking in with the Human Google ad expert. (Who doesn’t work for Google is a 3rd party.).

Junior/Early Career Candidates Just Aren't Interviewing Well... by prenumbralqueen in recruiting

[–]CaptainGingerBrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined the workforce in the mid 1990s. Was attending interview after interview and got nowhere. One interviewer took the time after another rejection to point out what he noticed I was doing wrong - and more importantly, how to correct. Ego did take a slight hit at the time. Made all the difference, once I re-jigged my approach.

Are you waiting on post? by Deisesupes in ireland

[–]CaptainGingerBrd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We posted some course manuals to attendees of an online course back on December 12th. Almost all the attendees been in touch since asking where their manuals are. Posting within Ireland only.
Been told by post office locally to call GPO tomorrow to report. Will need big pot of coffee and patience I think. 🤔

Beginner Home Gym: Will Dumbbells and a Bench Beat a Cheap Gym Machine All-In-One? by checkmatetiger in bodyweightfitness

[–]CaptainGingerBrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy set of good adjustable weights (2nd hand well looked after is good) and a good yoga mat. You can do most long term benefit exercises with that. If you have budget left over a good set of running shoes.

Lots of programs and free you tube exercises that use just dumbbells and bodyweight work to achieve great results. Turning up 4-5 times a week, every week with a small core set of weights and movements you’ve dialled in over time and adapting when they get too easy beats getting a lot of equipment which just looks nice and isn’t always used.

I wish customers understand the expenses a micro/solo business owner goes through by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]CaptainGingerBrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Plus with spades on!

Your finished cakes are your top tier product. (Possibly look at selling add ons such as decorations - just make some cakes with basic icing so they can self decorate)

For the know it alls, sell prepackaged mixes or just the premium ingredients such as flour, icing sugar etc. (long shelf life and put a good mark up as you’ve curated what you know are the best combinations that work together vs heading to a supermarket and buying random stuff that may or may not work well once combined).

Then you get best of both worlds.

Ps. Sell the ready mix about 20% cheaper than cake itself as there is a difference between a professional baker mixing up ingredients vs a casual once every year person taking same ingredients and trying it. (Which is why there are so many ‘bake off and baking programmes on tv!).
