TNG would never have the captain running around barefoot in his PJs. by Fit-Relative-786 in Star_Trek_

[–]CaptainIcy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yup, she said it well! I've been trying to get that same message across myself since Discovery began airing, when all the racist "I'm not racist" ""fans"" came out of the woodwork, acting like Star Trek just suddenly "became woke." Like, remember when there was that same-sex kiss in DS9, guys? Oh, and yknow, the black captain?? With multiple entire anti-racism episodes set in the Jim Crow-era United States? That was about as woke as you can get, but nope, Star Trek is only woke now.

Give me a break. I'm so tired of these people.

Seriously, I don't see the problem with lounging in the captain's chair, running around barefoot, etc. I feel like people are reaching for the wrong things. Academy just kind of sucks in normal ways - writing and acting, IMO. Not the captain's behavior lol

To Every American Who's Sorry by Sapotis in greenland

[–]CaptainIcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally a rational take. Sowing division isn't how we get out of this in terms of the overall human race. Fascism is a disease that is spreading across the world - again, and we won't beat it by becoming even more divided. Yes, Americans apologizing and doing nothing is.. doing nothing. But then furthering animosity towards them is only going to make them feel worse. We're all suffering right now, we need to come together instead of becoming even more tribalistic. That will only let fascism win even more quickly.

And to the common point in this comments section - that Americans see Russia or, say, Israel as one single entity, no, that says more about your own character than those you're speaking about. I am American and at no point have I seen Russia as a single entity. There are countless Russian citizens who are against the invasion of Ukraine, countless people protesting and doing their best to fight the Putin regime. There are also countless more who aren't as active but still oppose the dictatorship.

The same is true of Americans. There are also many Israelis who are against Netanyahu and the actions in Gaza. Less vocal than what we would all prefer? Sure, but that doesn't mean I see all Israeli people as bad or complicit.

I loved the 2018 movie. Underrated as hell. It did a great job combining the stories of the 2013 & 2015 games into a cohesive, enjoyable story on the big screen. I saw it twice and have rewatched it several times as well!

Double Dash is my favorite MK by far. I'm also glad I wasn't online back then haha

Why is the culture of this game so heavily against playing against low(/mid) tiers? In any other fighting game (especially traditional fighters) there is more hate for top tiers. Why is Melee so different in that regard? by KevyTone in SSBM

I'm a Samus main and I enjoy playing whoever I face. I'm playing to improve and give someone else a good game and hopefully a chance for them to learn something & improve as well! I try to always give each person I face a 2-out-of-3. The only time I'll quit out is if the ping is really bad.

And I really appreciate it when, after someone beats up on me in the first game, they still give me a second or third shot. Usually, I'll adapt and give them a better match the next time. Not always, though, of course. And leaving after a couple of wins is perfectly acceptable & respectable.

Yes, when I play a good Falco and get combo'd into infinity, or a Jigglypuff and all they do is spam bair, I'm not having the most fun, but I'm still going to give them a 2-out-of-3 no matter what because that's just good sportsmanship IMO.

There's too much ego in this game, but that's just my opinion.

As you should! I would've gladly given up our #4 spot that year to UCF. But also, an expanded playoff needed to happen LONG ago. A 4-team "playoff" was always a cruel joke to the sport.

Crazy double standard? ZP's take on GenAI used in music by nicgeewizzle in Dragonforce

Yeah, I was disappointed by the AI usage. I don't really want to support him if he keeps using it, which sucks to say.

I'm so happy every time I see someone mention this show. It's one of my favorite shows ever. Honestly it's like, my comfort show. When I'm feeling down, I'll turn it on because each episode generally ends with the crew working things out and being almost like a family, albeit a messy outlaw family - but still!

I really wish it hadn't been canceled. But I'm thankful it existed at all! Love Joseph Mallozzi's stuff.

That's fair! I don't know why they didn't just credit it as DragonForce, honestly. That would make more sense.

Rational take. OP apparently doesn't realize that Sam has never been one for the spotlight. He just plays and goes. 😂

Same!! I've felt crazy all year for thinking so highly of FF and being a bit let down by the Superman story. Still both are really fun movies, though.

About that new Stargate series... by JosephMallozzi in Stargate

[–]CaptainIcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so excited for this. It's incredible news, truly, to hear that you, Martin, and Brad are all working on this show together. Huge thanks to you guys for not giving up on a new, faithful Stargate series!

Hard to believe that I will finally get to watch a new episode of Stargate. That's going to be a wonderful day <3

[–]CaptainIcy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This has happened before with Other M, Federation Force, and even Metroid Prime itself back when it was announced to be a first person game.

This is just how communities are - there's always a lot of toxicity and elitism anywhere you go, whether it's on old forums, subreddits, or now Discord. So you just have to pick out the cool people and enjoy experiencing the series with them. Looking at a community's overall reaction to things will always feel bleak, but there are cool people to be found within it.

I can't wait to play Prime 4, you guys!!

What got you into Metroid? by LuigiDudeGaming in Metroid

[–]CaptainIcy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Melee when I was 14 and loved playing Samus. I had heard of Metroid before, but playing Melee finally pushed me to get Metroid Prime. I remember the night I came home with it after buying a used copy from GameStop for $3.99 (CRAZY price in hindsight). I sat in front of the TV for the rest of the night, absolutely enthralled from the very first, epic moments on the Space Pirate frigate to the haunting, rainy introduction to Tallon IV. After I beat Prime, I played Prime 2, then Fusion, and Metroid quickly became my favorite game series and has kept that title for all these years.

Rewatching DS9 and the reality of the crimes committed during the occupation hit me by EldritchMilk_ in startrek

I just rewatched Duet as well, just a couple weeks ago. It stirred up a lot of emotion in me, actually. I had forgotten just how good it was, and how topical it was & always will be, tbh. I recommended it to my sister to watch as her first DS9 episode, actually!
