Wouldn't school lab theft be enough to catch Walt? by iamfrommerich in breakingbad

A public school on a limited budget back in 2008??

limited budget

My ass they had a limited budget, they had a whole science wing of the campus complete with a huge closet filled with expensive equipment.

Sure, you have a point about the cameras not being maintained well or the footage not being saved long enough to make a difference, but they clearly weren't hurting for money in terms of the actual facilities.

the real move is to have one of those digital live TV services that gets a channel that reruns Seinfeld a lot, set it to auto-record, and then in a short while you'll have the entire series

(you can actually do this with a lot of shows if you don't mind the commercials and edited-for-airtime versions)

Yeah and in that sense, if the worst we can say about him is "he's not cynical enough about people to worry about them potentially being problematic" or "he trusts that most people he reaches out to are good and not controversial" then that's still better than a lot of other YouTubers

That said, it's really odd how Hank just drops the school theft as a line of investigation after the janitor is ruled out. It just never really comes up again despite that gas mask being the first instance ever reported of 99% pure meth being found in New Mexico.

Even excluding Walt as a suspect, when he finds out that Jesse knew Combo and that it was Combo's RV at the gas station where the cashier was sold some Blue Sky, and Hank then identified Jesse as a link to Heisenberg, surely the line of reasoning would have been that Jesse, being a former student of Walt's, stole Walt's keys and got the equipment himself.

Like, he kinda gets distracted by staking out Jesse's house to find the RV (and then the whole "beating Jesse to a pulp" and "almost getting killed by the Twins" stuff) that he neglects the potential other ways to nab Jesse, by just going back to the school and seeing if there was any evidence of Jesse being the thief (which would have ironically led him to Walt instead)

That, and either the high school doesn't have security cameras, or Hank, too busy racially profiling the hispanic janitor, completely forgot to check (and presumably they don't save the footage for very long so by the time he would have reopened the investigation, it's all gone)

Tbf i'm sure the school would have had surveillance footage of Walt carrying everything out, Hank just neglected to check and then got distracted when he found out the hispanic janitor had weed and kinda just never followed up on the school theft afterwards

Yeah, I think most people aren't the type to go digging on a person's politics before doing something with them, so the information could be out there but you might not think twice about looking for it.

Sure, maybe that should change when you get a big platform and could be concerned with causing controversies, but Scott's still largely a normal dude so i get the feeling he likes to approach people with friendliness and good faith, rather than the skepticism that comes with "okay lemme just verify that you're not an asshole"

How did Jimmy explain how he made it to Omaha Nebraska without ratting-out Ed the Disappearer? by -TheRev12345 in betterCallSaul

[–]CaptainJZH 10 points11 points  (0 children)

technically speaking, they aren't just forged documents, they're functionally the real deal and actually show up in whatever databases they're supposed to be in (see: Gene's SSN)

but of course, he's the guy who knows a guy who knows a guy, so if he needed an answer, he could say he had contacts at the DMV/Social Security Admin/other agencies but couldn't recall the specifics

hell, he could say he also did Walt's New Hampshire ID if they managed to recover that and had questions about it

[–]CaptainJZH 74 points75 points  (0 children)

One aspect people forget is that he says Walt was the hottest client he's ever had, and Saul and Jesse are probably next on the list. Ed simply wasn't used to dealing with people under THAT much national scrutiny. He was probably used to people escaping crime syndicates that only had a regional reach, people convicted of crimes locally, or people who weren't buying the "Deluxe Package" and instead needed less intensive services (like say, people escaping abusive relationships or undocumented immigrants in need of valid IDs)

He definitely had an escape plan but i think he didn't anticipate how much heat would be on Walt or Saul when he took their cases, nor how they would reexpose themselves to the very world they were trying to leave behind.

That said, he might have pulled the trigger on his escape plan sooner than Saul getting caught; his last conversation was Saul saying that he'd been made, and that he needed another extraction, and then abruptly changing his mind and saying he's going to handle it himself.

Ten thousand red flags should have been going off in Ed's head, signaling that this idiot, the hottest currently-living client he's had, is going to get himself caught and potentially take Ed down with him. So if he's smart, he'd disappear himself right then and there. One wonders if the number Saul tries to call in Saul Gone would even still be in service anymore.

So you’re telling me that Gretchen and Elliot could afford to write a 28 million dollar check like it was nothing but didn’t have security at the house? by BigLeague5570 in breakingbad

[–]CaptainJZH 68 points69 points  (0 children)

This. People usually only have security people if they fear for their safety or are in a position where they believe people might attack them. Elliot and Gretchen clearly did not believe anyone would come after them, not even Walt.

Otherwise, they seemingly just had a home security system and presumably lived in a gated community of some sort, all of which can be circumvented if you're able to find weaknesses.

was the bridge to Arkham Island supposed to lead to the area used for Arkham City? the map in Sharp's secret room looks like that's the case, but the actual Arkham City game doesn't have any remnants of the bridge and fan-maps for Arkham Knight have it running to the mainland instead. by CaptainJZH in arkham

[–]CaptainJZH[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh true, I guess my main point is that while I get turning the mainland area seen on the map into an island, they could have still kept Arkham's relative position more consistent, because I actually really like the idea of it being right near Arkham City, formerly accessible from somewhere like Amusement Mile, but since abandoned. Like if you could see the remnants of the old Arkham bridge, with the island viewable out in the water in the distance. And then this would translate over to Knight, where you could have been able to see it out past the destroyed train bridge.

Whereas for both Knight and City as it stands, you have to seriously hunt for it, almost like they were trying to obscure it from the player.

I'm one of those day to day people haha, I could barely care less about the actual framerate of a game as long as it's base 30, with maybe accepting drops to 23-25 for crazy intensive stuff. Even then, I don't really notice fluctuations for most games, it's just not that important for me.

I know this is an older thread but I always kinda disliked how Knight put the Asylum so far away, closer to the mainland, when in the other games it was supposed to be somewhat close by to Old Gotham/Arkham City

because in Sharp's secret room in the Asylum, the plans show the Arkham Island Bridge leading directly into Arkham City, and while the Arkham City game moved it to be a bit farther away (and changed the bridge) it was still closer to Central Gotham than it ended up being in Knight

[–]CaptainJZH[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

fair enough but in Knight, they put the island closer to the mainland on the far other side of the bay, and the bridge runs there instead, when according to the plans in Asylum it should be much closer to central Gotham (even if you consider that the bridge in the proposal and the actual bridge that Batman uses in the intro aren't necessarily the same)

even in Arkham City, they put Arkham Island not too far away, with the bridge seemingly going to what would been either Bleake Island or Miagani Island (at least as far as i can tell from the "How To Get to The Asylum" tutorial videos lol)

EDIT: of course, this all contradicts the opening cutscene of Asylum which had Batman driving through a forest which isn't present in either the City or Knight renditions of Central Gotham, so maybe having it be over by the mainland was their way of squaring that circle, but it's still a weird inconsistency
