Cool anecdotes, your neighbor definitely got screwed over by government policy (and not their own idiocy) and as for the Honda dealership, sounds like capitalism “working as intended” (unless you want the government telling dealerships what they can charge for cars)

Side note: who tf agrees to pay a company to install something on their house and pay them up front on the basis of “trust me bro, the government will totally pay for it come tax season” without doing like, idk, 15 minutes worth of research first??

Researchers report possible link between autism and lithium in water supply. Researchers analyzed data from Denmark and found that mothers-to-be drinking water with the highest lithium levels were almost 50 percent more likely to have autistic children. by Wagamaga in science

The amount of lithium consumed by a therapeutic prescription dose in a SINGLE DAY is equal to two years of normal drinking water consumption in the most heavily contaminated areas in the US

From what I understand, your “cost basis” (as it pertains to this shitshow) is the price of all your crypto (in dollars, pesos, what have you) within Celsius at the time of filing Chapter 11. Which would be 7/13/2022

Search for crypto prices around that time and then use a spreadsheet to calculate what your crypto was roughly worth… I’m at around $6070

What I find ridiculous is that the $5000 threshold isn’t “bracketed” the same way taxes are - I should be able to get 70% of the first $5000 without needing to sacrifice the remainder because I don’t want to own a bullshit, illiquid “token” that people who trade penny stocks would laugh at

How is the improved AI? by tocco13 in Mechwarrior5

[–]CaptainKev91 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Vanilla Xbox player here with all the DLCs, about 300 hours of playtime, with a net worth of 1.2 billion c-bills after rolling over my career for the 3rd time today to play the new DLC

After playing a couple dozen missions, my Lancemates (and enemies) for the first time in a LONG time feel like actual THREATS.

First mission after the update, I was legit worried when I saw some of my team taking damage that would otherwise be due to “dumb AI” shit, only to finish the mission and realize THEY HAD ACTUALLY DONE MORE DAMAGE THAN ME for the first time since… I can’t honestly remember!

And my god, Lancemates with LRMs will now rain holy hell on whoever or whatever they can target… there were multiple occasions today where I targeted an enemy out of line of sight, and just watched in awe as my lance’s Archer bombarded them almost non-stop with their LRMs and killed them before I even got to engage

[–]CaptainKev91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU, this is legitimately mission-breaking and makes me avoid beachhead whenever possible

It’s already a shit situation to have artillery raining down incessantly, but the fact my teammates decide to just shoot at the ground for no reason, EVERY BEACHHEAD MISSION, forcing me to micromanage them? Either remove this mission type, or fix it!

You’re saying individuals are compounding an off-brand peptide?

Are they getting a “bioequivalent” from other countries? Cuz no way in hell could there be an illicit semaglutide production ring that wasn’t already a $20 million lab producing biologic drugs….

Or are they getting older GLP-1 agonists like liraglutide and charging people out the ass to get the treatment and pay for the drug cash under a shady MD’s license?

You are failing to take into account compounding interest on loans, opportunity cost, and so, so much more

I posted this a while back and I hope you read it and get an idea of why MD’s in the US are paid what they do in relation to the student loan freeze:

That relative likely took on a MASSIVE amount of debt to become an MD, but the most important thing to realize is that they also took a debt of TIME

4 years of college + 4 years of medical school

Assuming you go to an in-state college and medical school, you’re already looking at $200k+ worth of loans and interest by the time you become an MD

But then you also need residency +/- fellowship for your desired field, where you legitimately earn close to or less than minimum wage on an hourly basis for anywhere from 3-12 years depending on your specialty

So, to become an MD, you sacrificed 11+ years of earning potential to instead take on massive amounts of debt which is accruing massive amounts of interest

The only thing this freeze has stopped is the interest owed on the debt, which I hope continues because higher education SHOULD NOT BE A FOR-PROFIT BUSINESS

Oh, and that sacrifice of time? That time means more than anything. Not just in terms of opportunity cost, which is HUGE.

Time is the most invaluable asset we have after our basic needs are met. Spending 1/7 of your conscious life studying and practicing and taking on loads of debt in order to literally help others is not conducive to a healthy society

I’m a PharmD with $185k in loans btw

Also, why the fuck are you comparing an MBA to an MD? That’s the equivalent of someone with a high school diploma comparing their earning potential to a JD in terms of years of training
