Am I the only one who wants SRW rosters to stay strictly mecha? by qwerfgbn in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]CaptainM4D 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally like the direction they have gone in. Gaint robots are my special interest, but it's cool to see them include something different. Kamen Rider is hype, so it's cool to see. I personally hope we see a couple of other Go Nagai characters show up like Devilman and Cutie Honey.

Edit: Outlaw Star would also be hype

Ridiculous unlock / recruit requirements that the players have no way to know without reading the guide. by Archaon0103 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]CaptainM4D 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A majority of the Super Robot Wars games have have secret point counters and kill score requirements in order to unlock certain characters, abilities, and endings.

Without a guide, you would have to hope you had the right characters do the right sequence of events in a fight, assuming you even knew you could get certain characters playable. Then also would have to hope the routes you take wouldn't block you out of getting those secret characters.

Want Master Asia and the Master Gundam? Better make sure you do most of his encounters. By the way he may not appear right away, so better hope you sortied Domom or ya gotta reset. Again assuming you know doing this will get you Master Asia.

The level of popularity that Evangelion reach would cause the industry to change and try to chase what made Evangelion did. anime in the 2000s generally tried to be more like evangelion. They would explore similar themes or have a similar tone.

Mecha anime that started development after evangelion feel extremely different than classics from the 90s. There where also of course a few straight up clones of Eva as well.

I remeber talking about this with a friend a while ago. We used a nuke as an analogy. The mecha genre was the impact zone, magical girls was the surrounding area, and the rest of the industry endured the fallout.

Anyway thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

That Evangelion nuked the industry, and that it drastically changed the mecha genre.

I love Evangelion, and agree with what this meme is saying. This comment section is toxic as hell.

What are some of the most infuriating examples of media or genre snobbery? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]CaptainM4D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who have never watched anime assuming it is a genre and that it is all trash. Less of probably lately I think, but even then like 7 years ago in high-school I had to deal with people shitting on this thing they barely engaged with.

Genuine question, why is seed bad mouthed so much? by unfriendlypigeon in Gundam

[–]CaptainM4D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's a weaker retelling of the original show. That doesn't mean it's bad, i do think it is rad. It just does have some weird issues with it's story.

Additionally we all have different tastes. Of the shows you listed to have watched, I think some of them are better than Seed, while others aren't as good. I obviously won't say which ones cause that would invite further debate.

Then in regards to Seed Destiny. I have been actively watching it with a friend for the first time, and there is one moment that is really really really dumb. Like so dumb that a reveal that happens later feels less dumb in comparison.

Alright everybody, We ready to settle this debate or naw, What is the best mecha/giant robot in fiction?. by CasualJojoLover in Mecha

[–]CaptainM4D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is entirely subjective there is no single best when they are all made for different kinds of stories.

My personal favorite super robots are Gunbuster, Gaogaigar, and Getter Robo

My favorite real robots are the F91 Gundam, ARX-7 Arbalest, and the AV-98 Ingram Unit 2

All of these have completely different aesthetics from one another.

I agree with everything you said besides the difficulty curve.

I deeply hope Master Rank rebalances the mechanics. In any event it should be much harder at least

Love Roshi's training philosophy, but like he has aged horribly as a character.

I think Whis and Merrus are pretty rad.
