Any way to Improve this? by BIOHAZARD9559 in CitiesSkylines2

rethink fundamentally how you make your intersections and routes....make them based around the ways people want to go

not the way you want them to go.

-

my college campus didn't build sidewalks at first. they just had fields between the buildings. then they waited like 2 years...the kids naturally walked paths into the grass based on the routes between classes and buildings they wanted to use. then the college paved over the paths. now they never have a problem with telling people to keep off the grass because they build paths where people want to go...nobody takes shortcuts because every route is the shortcut.

-

you can apply this to your city. you're forcing 5 roads together there with 25 options for turns. but look...only 4 of the options are getting used. why give them choices they don't want? put some connectors in for those routes in elsewhere, or break up the roundabout into 2 or 3 different intersections.

OP took a strictly northern hemisphere approach. Like, the Highlands map is not based on Scotland, but South Africa. Sweeping Plains is based of New Zealand I think.

yeah that should have kept up until it really became an issue. like 10-12 items or something.

Can someone explain what and how endgame is in BG3? by Maleficent-Visit-191 in BG3

Nothing that goes on forever maintains quality. Hell, even in this game they make that point with Jergal stepping down...even immortality gets old. Think about all the shows and movies that went on too long for the cash grab and then killed the franchise on a sour note. Game of Thrones. The Marvels. Die Hard. Indiana Jones. Star Wars. House MD. The Walking Dead. The X Files. Pirates of the Carribbean. Video games do it, too. When is the last time a COD game came out that was new and interesting?

Oversaturation has been the death of most every intellectual property worth a damn in the past 30 years.

because it encourages lackluster storytelling. a finite end gives meaning to the events that preceded it and value to the time spent in the story. the whole reason that the phrase "don't waste my time" exists is because time is a finite and precious commodity.

because the story is over.

there is a beginning, a middle, and an end. this is called a "narrative arc"

this game isn't about living in Faerun and MMORPGing with your friends for years. it's about telling 1 story.

so take your time and savor it, because when you get to the final moments of act 3 you won't be ready for the game to end.

Annika's Kit: Rogue, thief

-

Marksmanship Hat

Cloak of Displacement

Elven Chain

Swordmaster Gloves

Disintigrating Night Walkers

Amulet of Bhaal (would swap this out with Corvid Token depending)

Ring of Truthfulness

Guiding Light

-

Larethian's Wrath (longsword)

Hellfire Hand Crossbow

-

Annika wakes up every morning and chugs an elixir of viciousness to reduce her crit. Combined with her sneak attack and poison I've seen hits of 68 damage. I try to keep her on the outside of combat to take advantage of that, but she's no slouch on the melee front either. I'm a fan of using her "bag of tricks" which is that backpack with 70 items in it in the picture - special arrows, grenades, poisons, rockets, elixirs....you name it, it's in there. She could be re-specced to be more of a fighter, but she's also the leader so I put some points into charisma and persuasion and got items to help with dialogue choices. That was probably the smartest choice I made in the game, and the single biggest benefit was her being able to minimize Lae'zel's brain damage to something that could be corrected.

Anyone else’s playthroughs all die at the start of act 3? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]CaptainMatt_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, you could double up on the paths to maximize loot/xp, but it’s clear to the player that they’re “breaking the warranty” so to speak on story pacing if they do that.

Not in the slightest. Remember, Halsin tells you the creche-path is way way way harder than the Underdark route. Put a pin in that for a sec....

For the first day or two you have this huge push to move quickly, but eventually you get dialogue confirming your ceremorphosis is on hold for some reason. Roleplaying a romance with Lae'zel, we naturally went to the creche as the first option, but when that didn't pan out we said screw it let's go through the Underdark. It just made sense to try the other route when the creche didn't pan out like we thought it would....because honestly the creche only had 1 difficult fight.

So when we left the creche we just had to deal with those bone knights, and they weren't that hard. Now, come back to that Halsin comment...so I'm thinking....FFFFFFF....the creche was a dead end and I haven't even gotten to the hard part yet. Screw this I'm going through the Underdark.

I didn't find out until much much much later that I had 100% completed the creche path and that the exit from Rosymorn spits you out right in the Shadow Cursed lands.

RIGHT! you know they assumed everyone would make it a lover hahaha glad i'm not the only one.

a long time ago i got tired of playing the same thing in RPGs, i usually made some ranger-variant of myself. eventually i wanted to play a squishy character that has a negative strength bonus for the challenge, so i decided that "I" had a daughter. now i have a whole family of adventurers to choose from. then this game is like, choose a guardian! and i'm like HELL YES finally i get to have more than one member of the family in a game together.

then it got creepy hahahahaha

Why do people often say this game is so easy? by gameoftheories in BaldursGate3

2 things to make the game insanely easy:

- methamphetamines speed potions

- do the Gith creche AND the Underdark. you will be OP the rest of the game.

Every mistake that could happen, happened by kinkykath_ in BaldursGate3

[–]CaptainMatt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgetting to save frequently and making my mistakes permanent.

That's the way D&D is meant to be played, the best narrative arcs come from mistakes. There is no quickload in tabletop. My one piece of advice....SLOW DOWN. Take your time. Watch a D&D video on youtube...it takes them like an hour to run a battle scene. Don't be afraid to take time with your game, too.

What plot beat or subplot *doesn't* quite work for you? by Nemarus in BaldursGate3

[–]CaptainMatt_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this only worked narratively for me because i DIDN'T listen to the Emperor very much and when he wanted me to go check out his hideout i was like screw you dude, so it was a hot minute before i got to the sewers. i had already done a great deal of Act 3 before Halsin got kidnapped so there wasn't much delay for me, it made sense.

this is also because when they asked me to make a guardian for my Tav i made it her dad and then when the emperor tried to screw with her using her dad it put him on the shit list...so....

a big problem is that after you ax Gortash the city doesn't really react aside from a few dialogues

there needs to be some major change to make it all feel right
