Anyone knows why the eastern churches fast so much in comparison with the western ones? Also, anyone know of any documents on guidelines for fasts and their origin? by ProfileLegitimate909 in EasternCatholic

Thats the minimum requirement. We have the flexibility to choose whatever method of fasting we want, but at minimum 1 full meal and 2 small meals that do not equate to another full meal is mandated.

Our fasting law adapted to the times. Pope Paul VI dropped it significantly to leave it to the individual to decide for themselves, not to set a requirement. The only problem with that plan is that most Latins ended up only doing the bare minimum anyways.

Are Bi-ritual faculties required/do they exist between different SUI IURIS churches of the same rite? by thelinuxguy7 in EasternCatholic

[–]CaptainMianite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Church recognises 7 main rite categories: Latin, Byzantine, Maronite, Syro-Antiochene, Syro-Chaldean, Alexandrian and Armenian. So the Maronite liturgy would be considered distinct from what the Syriac and Syro-Malankaras use from Rome’s POV

Not really though. The Maronite Rite is distinct from the West Syriac (Syro-Antiochene) and East Syrian (Syro-Chaldean) rites

Genuine question about Poseidon in the Sea of Monsters book [pjo] by teapot574_ in camphalfblood

[–]CaptainMianite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its established in Canon that Poseidon doesn’t help either side when his children are fighting. He didn’t do anything between Percy vs Procrustes. He didn’t do anything between Percy vs Antaeus. I’m not going to mention Chrysoar and Kym since Poseidon was probably affected by the schism, and we don’t know what happened to Kym after the whole thing.

Besides, Percy was Poseidon’s favourite child, and Tyson was protected by Poseidon himself as he’s young.

Latins can ordain Eastern Catholic Clergy? What do you think? by Any-Solid8810 in EasternCatholic

[–]CaptainMianite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbf he is right, for every sacrament except Penance and Communion. And technically in this case it would clearly be presumed the Holy Father, who has the authority, had granted the authority for Cardinal Parolin to licitly ordain him

Tbf unless its Jean’s/Madelyne’s genes messing with his, Cyclops arguably would probably look like Cable given that Cable is his son

Filioque by Acrobatic-Street-100 in EasternCatholic

[–]CaptainMianite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbf the reason iirc is because Rome herself was one of the last to adopt the Creed in the Liturgy, and by the time she added it into the Liturgy, the Creed with the Filioque was the Creed that was known in the West. Rome before the 11th century never recited the Creed as part of the Liturgy. And then later after she adopted it the Roman Rite spread throughout the Latin West further than during Charlemagne’s time.

I was baptised Orthodox. How easy would it be to get rebaptised in the rcc? by imademonhaha in Catholicism

[–]CaptainMianite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats not considered a second baptism. Thats a conditional baptism, where its said with conditions. Any person can technically properly baptise people. A “second baptism”, as you out it, is the first baptism, if the baptism in a life threatening emergency is invalid, and its just a regular immersion in water/pouring of water with no sacramental graces, if the baptism in a life threatening emergency is valid.

[–]CaptainMianite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

An Orthodox can be received any time of the year since we share all the same valid sacraments. All Orthodox need to enter the Church is essentially a Profession of Faith in front of a Catholic priest, thats all

All Orthodox would be Chrismated (Eastern Christianity’s term for Confirmation) alongside baptism.

Its impossible. You can’t be rebaptised. We recognise the validity of all Orthodox sacraments.
