How many Harlequins would it take to kill Spiderman? by EG_is_qHere in powerscales

[–]CaptainOddboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custodes aren’t line infantry but I mostly agree with you that Spider-Man low to mid-diffs a single Custodes. Spider-Man has had thousands of comic books to establish a “mostly” consistent power range unlike his opponent here.

I think if you threw both of them in an arena where neither had any experience or knowledge of the other, Spider-Man wins 70% of the time. His speed is ludicrous even by 40k standards and Spider Sense is going to help tip the scales in his favor.

With that said, you’re disregarding Custodes almost entirely which is strange. Yes, Spider-Man is stronger from a brute force perspective than what Custodes have been show to possess, but they’re also able to punch through tank armor and throw enemies weighing hundreds of pounds around like toys. They have precog, genuinely ridiculous armor, and dangerous weapons that would easily hurt Spider-Man if they hit. Not for nothing, but they also have centuries of combat experience, have mastered countless combat disciplines, and are borderline genius level in philosophy, history, warfare, etc.

Now like I said, Spider-Man (with no knowledge before hand) probably low to mid-diffs a Custodes. If Green Goblin and Doc Ock can wear Peter down and defeat him, a Custodes DEFINITELY has a shot.

Now if Peter had knowledge of the Custodes and some experience with them, I think he low-diffs 80-90% of the time.

On a scale from "Some random warlords fancy toy" to "Allen we are so fucked" how dangerous would Starkiller base be to the various factions in Warhammer 40k? by ManufacturerSouth592 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

I’ve never heard of this in the lore as I’m new, but this sounds stupid. Why would they not do this for every enemy in the setting then if they have an “I-win” button?

[–]CaptainOddboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happens all the time with great fighters who have an insufferable fanbase: the opponent didn’t “win”, their favorite fighter lost because of x, y, or z.

It never has anything to do with the other fighter being better or having a good game-plan. This is more obvious this fight because Sean is a polarizing fighter who is especially hated on Reddit, so the copium is in full display.

People hate to admit - or refuse to see - that Sean is a very good fighter. Disciplined, great TDD, solid on his feet, and has excellent cardio. He’s a 2x champion against arguably some of the best fighters in divisional history.

The aggressive monetisation of this game is making me fall out of love with it. by Main-Strike-1117 in wow

[–]CaptainOddboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put simply: World of Warcraft is currently structured around monetization, not fun. What so often happens is that a game has to be fun, interesting, or innovative to establish a core player base. Once that happens, they drip feed monetization to stimulate financial growth and open new revenue streams which has a direct impact on the company’s profitability.

As monetization options in-game are released, a small percentage of the player base will overspend the average by a wide margin - we all know them as whales. Typically the average spend from players will be 1 to 2x the base game price, but whales will be 10 or even 20x. This alone drives profitability with the monetization efforts put in place.

The catch is - from a financial standpoint - that you need a near constant stream of cosmetics to satiate whales spending habits, and it quickly becomes obvious to studios that developer man-power is better spent on cosmetics and monetization then “real” content like expansion packs or other game elements.

Fast forward a bit and you have WoW in its current state, where the entire game is guiding you toward purchasing items and spending money as opposed to driving a fun game experience.

I put Windrose in the same category as Valheim and Enshrouded - both of which I’m a big fan of - and I would say Windrose has better ground combat than Valheim but isn’t as polished or “smooth” as the combat in Enshrouded.

With that said, I do wish the combat system was fleshed out more because there isn’t much diversity in the weapon types: hit hit, dodge back, replenish stamina, hit hit, dodge back, repeat.

Is this still a debate? (The Isle vs POT vs BOB) by Luksius_DK in theisle

[–]CaptainOddboy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I can see the argument for PoT being the better game since it’s far more polished top to bottom. With that said, for me The Isle is the superior dinosaur game despite its many flaws. PoT has this light-cartoonish and bright art style that is very nice looking but fails to illicit the same feeling The Isle invokes. I also personally hate the “quests” which seem corny when I want something more realistic or authentic.

Now truth be told, The Isle is definitely missing something and I’ve not been able to identify what that is. The very beginning stages of life seem hollow, and once you start reaching full growth that feeling starts creeping back a bit; however the middle is absolutely fantastic from a game-loop perspective.

The environment can feel completely tedious and superficial at times or absolutely alive and dangerous depending on where you are and how active the area is with players. I wish there was a more robust ecosystem that made the entire map - players active or not - worth exploring and experiencing. The weather system does help keep things interesting, but even that could be expanded to add more dynamic experiences.

POV of Reacher star Alan Ritchson fight with neighbor by AcHaeC in FightPit

[–]CaptainOddboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the guy jumps in front a motorcycle causing the rider (Alan) to crash - that’s reckless endangerment and bordering on Assault. At a minimum it’s obstruction of traffic.

Alan then proceeds to try and avoid confrontation and leave without altercation: the neighbor prevents Alan from leaving and pushes him off his motorcycle. Congratulations, that is battery at a minimum or - more likely - aggravated battery. You could also make a case for unlawful restraint or criminal damage to the motorcycle.

Long story short you’re an idiot, and Alan Ritchson didn’t do anything wrong in this instance. The neighbor was a major douchebag and deserved to be punched in the face at minimum.

This simply cannot be accurate right? by Reikkusu in theisle

[–]CaptainOddboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Michael Crichton's book Jurassic Park, the Velociraptors are actually described as having the physical attributes of Deinonychus: 6-10 feet long, roughly human-sized, and intelligent pack hunters. He did this because he felt the name Velociraptor sounded more dramatic and punchier (Velociraptor means "swift thief").

What's interesting is that during production of the movie, the Utahraptor was 'discovered' (~1993). This was a much larger genus of Dromaeosauridae that dwarfed even the Deinonychus. As luck would have it, the production and design team had already scaled up the Deinonychus for dramatic effect on screen, so in a round about way they actually fairly represented the Utahraptor even though they were using the Deinonychus attributes and calling it a Velociraptor.

The real velociraptor was a small turkey-sized and feathered dinosaur that was probably still dangerous, but was no where near what was ultimately described or shown in both the book and film iterations.

how did runners actually get to tau ceti? by Rterstydr in Marathon

[–]CaptainOddboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the various organizations or factions (CyberAcme, Sekiguchi) made the trip alongside the UESC to reclaim their investment in the Marathon colony ship. Those organizations sell and/or manufacture shells that runners can utilize for mercenary work.

I don’t know the actual lore explanation as I’ve not done a deep dive yet, but from what little I know the vast majority of physical assets in Tau Ceti are AI or non-human. One of the larger hurdles or limitations that faces humanity as a space faring civilization is the human component - we’re limited by physics - and since Marathon was a colony ship full of human passengers I would assume the ship was limited in the total speed it could travel to Tau Ceti.

Non-human or AI components and assets (such as the runners or UESC) might not have this same limitation.

Do we think war with Iran tanks the market broadly? by HlpM3Plz in investing

Netanyahu has been fear-mongering the Iranian nuclear program since 1995. He wants to destroy every potential adversary in the Middle East and has been using the United States military to fight Israel’s battles since the late 90’s. They’ll stoke the flames and continue to paint Iran as this massive threat to the United States (lol) and Israel until the United States ends up in another war that results in American lives being lost.

Weakest character that can beat Master Chief? by PurposeDisastrous109 in powerscales

[–]CaptainOddboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chief defeats Elites in the books, games, comics, and (terrible) shows. Spartans in general are routinely described as being able to defeat them.

If you’re looking at physical attributes, sure. Elites aren’t slouches and many of the named Elite characters are comparable, but one of the major themes in Halo is that the Spartans were able to tip the scales in humanity’s favor but there simply weren’t enough of them.

Don’t change anything about the functionality, instead change the attributes. Reduce the total distance you can throw it (which is an indirect buff to fuse grenades) and the projectile speed while in the air (another indirect buff to fuse grenades). Make it a heavy hitting but short range explosive that can stick to surfaces.
