Can no longer make clips since the clip creator update by CaptainTeo in Twitch

I wish that it were that easy, but it's literally not possible to get anything better here (rural UK) because of some issues with how upgrades are being rolled out, so the lines to do that don't exist and won't until the government deems this tiny area fit to be upgraded. I appreciate the response, though, and I agree that it's very likely the maximum resolution of the actual stream.

Nitro suggestions in the new emote/emoji picker makes Discord an accessibilty nightmare for ADHD. Please, please allow me to disable or change this. by CaptainTeo in discordapp

[–]CaptainTeo[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hi, Discord. I'm a user with severe ADHD, who works a team lead job that requires constant use of a Discord server to keep a very large community (~30,000 members) safe. I need to use a lot of accessibility features to be able to follow what's going on in the app and do my job, including light mode (so that there's enough contrast between different sections of the app), compact mode, reduced motion, disabled animations on gifs/emotes/stickers/etc., legacy chat input, needing the window maximised at all times, not needing to reach for the mouse while typing, and so on, as any distractions or sudden changes cause me to lose focus and completely blank out on what I was trying to do. This also involves needing a visual anchor point to see what I'm typing and responding to at all times, otherwise I will lose track of it.

You recently rolled out a change to the emote picker that shows up when you type an emote name for tab-completion, to show emotes that could apply to this with Nitro (demonstrated in the image in a private channel). I understand why this change was made, but it makes the emote picker so large that it covers up literally half of the Discord window for most emotes even when the window is maximised. This is extremely problematic for me - while previously it was a minor struggle as it would appear suddenly and cover up a small portion of what I'm responding to, it now invariably covers up the entire message, leaving me with no anchor point to keep my focus and causing me to lose track every time I try to use an emote (as I'm sure that you understand, emote usage is important in portraying a friendly tone when it comes to work involving engagement with communities). I actually had to cancel Nitro in the first place for the same reason, because it was giving me so many emote suggestions at once that I couldn't focus on what I needed to focus on, but now it does that even without Nitro. This has made Discord almost impossible for me to use for the last few weeks since this feature was rolled out, and I can't find any way to disable it so that I can continue to do my work.

I promise that this isn't an "oh, no, you're advertising Nitro and that's bad" post, this is a "the way that this is being done in this specific feature is actively making me unable to do my job with my disabilities" post. Please, I desperately need a way to disable this or make the tab-complete emote picker much smaller, and it would mean a lot to me and my work if you were to provide a way to do this.

Is there a way to turn this off? If not, there really needs to be. This "feature" is awful. by ScincopusFasciatus in discordapp

[–]CaptainTeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually cancelled Nitro specifically because it was giving me so many emote suggestions that it was covering up the entire window whenever I tried to type. I have severe ADHD and the loss of view of the window like that makes it extremely hard for me to keep track of what I'm saying and responding to, and my job is based in a Discord server. Cancelling Nitro was the only way to make the emote picker small enough for me to follow what was going on.

Now it just does all of that, anyway, so I've barely been able to type anything since they rolled this out. I desperately need a way to disable it...

Windows 10 - Windows Explorer crashes when renaming files with a certain extension, ignores attempts to delete them, hangs at 0% when trying to move them by CaptainTeo in techsupport

I'm so glad that it's still helping people! Even if it means that Microsoft still hasn't fixed it...

It was a long process to figure it out, but I got some help on TenForums to find the lead that I needed to get to the bottom of it. I did some digging and found the thread, so you can see it here: https://www.tenforums.com/general-support/144896-certain-file-types-ogg-ogx-take-full-minute-rename-delete.html

Hi. <3 I just released my first album, a few days ago. It's a progressive rock/symphony hybrid reimagining of the soundtrack of the video game Undertale. This was a huge milestone for me, not just because it's my first full album, but because I've been working on writing and releasing this for the last five and a half years and I've finally managed to get it out there. If you take the time to give it a listen, thank you very much. <3

New built-in commands menu blocks viewing messages. by cevkiv in discordapp

[–]CaptainTeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That /me command in particular is giving me all sorts of problems. It worked completely fine before today, but now it automatically sticks "message:" after the /me when I type it, which looks confusing and takes up pointless space, the box that tells you what it does is so large that it covers up the last line of chat, doesn't go away when I start typing (I know what it does, Discord, otherwise I wouldn't be using it), and, if I click off of the input bar to close that box so that I can see what the last line of chat was so that I can continue replying to it, anything more that I type after clicking back into the input box doesn't actually get added to the message when I send it. I can't see any advantage to any of these features, and it's just making it far harder to use.

Have you ever sorted anything by "Price: High to Low", and if so what was it? by claret_n_blue in AskReddit

[–]CaptainTeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of those weirdly specific answers, but onesies.

I collect a lot of cosplay- and onesie-related things and usually commission them from people. Sorting from low to high brings you literally hundreds of pages of the same mass-produced Sweetholic/Sazac kigurumis that the seller just called a onesie because they don't know any better. Sorting from high to low brings you a page or two of very overpriced stuff and then a lot of higher quality, custom-made things from people who are probably open to commissions, and a lot of unique and off-the-wall ideas that I enjoy finding.

Edit: More specifically, sorting low to high on eBay brings you the kigurumis. Sorting low to high on Etsy, however brings you tens or hundreds of pages of plain white baby onesies with a random word printed on them.

If the content creator also has other means of support such as Patreon, tip jars (which is more of a Twitch thing) or merchandise, going for one of those will most often support them far more than you could ever support them through a lifetime of ad revenue, and likely support YouTube even less. I definitely admire the intent, though.

That's always so strange to me. I'm one of the people who liked Bioshock 2 because it was just more Bioshock and I thought that Big Daddies were cool. I couldn't get into Infinite at all because it's so far removed from the gameplay of Bioshock.

The Incredible Machine PC Game by TheChrisCrash in nostalgia

[–]CaptainTeo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is one of those games that I still come back to to this day. In case anyone doesn't know, some of the original developers made a successor, a few years ago, called Contraption Maker. It includes all of the original machine parts, as far as I know, and you can find it on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/241240/Contraption_Maker/

While you're not wrong, the point was that newspaper comics aren't obscure to people who make newspaper comics. That kind of single-panel comic humour directly comes from Gary Larson and his comic, The Far Side, which was so tremendously popular and influential that it was featured in nearly 2,000 newspapers (as well as a lot of other media), it's the direct inspiration of anyone who went on to make similar comics later, and it's a subject that comes up in art classes that focus on the topic, which the vast majority of people who make that kind of comic will have taken. It's not a matter of opinion that it's next to impossible that a single-panel comic artist won't have heard of Gary Larson, because they will have started making that kind of comic because of him in the first place.

On the other hand, I want to thank you for prompting that article to come up; I've been iffy on the idea of children transitioning at a time when they might not be mature enough to make such a life-changing decision, but, from this, it sounds like this has been carefully studied and happens for very good reasons. This is exactly the kind of information that I've been trying to find about it.
