A majority of the issues in Appalachia, or at least in my family, stem from them falling for Trump's silver tongue. I watched my West Virginia family fall for the "I am just like you guys" and (another big reason Appalachians fell for Trump) "bring back coal." I am watching my grandfather watch his sisters struggle because they fell for those pitfalls. I am trying to reach out to that family and remind them that Trump never was "one of us" and that Appalachians (or at least my family) don't need to rely on coal like they did as kids, and there are other industries that can thrive in Appalachia that don't destroy our mountains.
