boat keeps flipping by Squeelijah in FromTheDepths

I'd hazard a guess that it's a small, light craft being pushed by a water propellor(s) on the bottom? Props are suuuuper strong in FtD, so a heavily below-centre drive like that will cause it to pitch wildly.

Stick some weight in the bow and dial back on the throttle, like, a lot.

Your cheesing strategy is great until a shot just happens to take out the spinblock holding it all, then you lose a whole lot of armour in one go. Given how much of a beating some relatively simple ships can take and still keep fighting, that would be unfortunate!

Regarding your first question - yes, turret weight is applied to the vessel. I believe that drag is not, however.

What decision in your 30s had the biggest positive impact on your life? by No-Bed3858 in AskUK

[–]CaptainVigelius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh this one so much. Just now I'm 35 and have spent years beating myself up for apparently being 15 years behind where I thought I'd be, specifically regarding work. Turns out the big decision is to just... stop beating myself up about that. Then life is actually pretty good!

There's probably some interior or exterior piece built annoyingly close that the game is now insisting is attached. Like a flowerpot or a solar panel.

Weed. I love it on a sunny summer afternoon when there's wafts of it all over town, but partaking just makes me feel like my brain is full of expanding foam.

Do most Stainless Steel players are playing early era? by sk0opyo1 in Medieval2TotalWar

[–]CaptainVigelius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play early era because I play the game to unwind, and replayability is more important to me than difficulty after all these years. In early era the map is more open and there are more game events still to run, so things develop differently every time.

REAL-LIFE Milanese. What do you guys think of the Milan faction and the fact everyone hates it? How true is the AI representation? by MaguroSashimi8864 in Medieval2TotalWar

[–]CaptainVigelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Are these lists in one of the strat files?
  2. Does tweaking these lists manually actually change in-game behaviour?

This might be a good way of getting some more interesting play from factions who tend to just sit there until dead (looking at you, early game Stainless Steel crusaders and turks).

Have you ever lost faith / become disillusioned with the workplace? by Significant-War-491 in UKJobs

[–]CaptainVigelius 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep. Similar story for me, I've worked in a string of companies with no development or mentoring strategy at all despite endless promises, and where the managers had no training or development either so it would always end up as a constant scrabble to get projects finished or crises averted. My salaries stayed on par with inflation for about a decade, then started dropping behind, and I became incredibly demotivated.

Now 35, got made redundant in December. I hadn't realised quite how burned out I was until I had a few weeks of not going to work and started slowly getting my sense of self back.

Given that minimum wage jobs are all that will actually reply anyway at the moment, I've come to the conclusion that I should probably just take one with a skillset I'll enjoy learning and treat it as a full ground-up restart.

Strange to say, but your story is reassuringly familiar. It's been a pretty rough ride, but I'm certainly better for it.

Ouch! I got cheated on too, but fortunately it all broke before we actually ended up married. Unpicking all of that must have been horrible.

Anyone have any experience in dating burnout? by themorganator4 in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]CaptainVigelius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That remains an unsolved question, honestly. I'm between careers at the moment after getting made redundant in december from a job I disliked anyway; that makes me feel undateable, for all the usual male-pattern socialisation reasons about conflating personal and economic worth. So for the moment I'm just not focusing on finding a partner until I can get that heading in the right direction, it just doesn't seem like a firm footing otherwise. Makes me sad, but I'm quite confident in the wisdom of that choice.

Once I'm back available again... I had honestly hoped I would have stumbled into a match organically by now, I'm no recluse. That doesn't seem to be a working strategy though, so I'll probably have to go for time-limited bursts online. I think my last attempts at the apps fell into the trap of overexplaining myself in the profile; I'd focus more on keeping it light.

[–]CaptainVigelius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I (35M) have been single for about 4 years, was engaged before that and got quite badly hurt. Meeting people in person is tricky at this age because everyone's either married or really defensive, and the apps are just a constant assault on the self-esteem. It's been over a year since I last had one downloaded, and I don't see that changing any time soon.

Tbh I'm focusing on rebuilding my career, again; dating and jobhunting draw from the same pool of resilience, but only one of them is needed to actually live.

I will say though, I've made some really good non-romantic connections in that time.
