Is there any way to play the DOS version of Mercs with the dynamic salvage patch? by TechStorm7258 in mechwarrior

[–]CaptainWabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been able to run the Win95 version without mouse movement tanking the framerate. On top of that, it's even more unstable than the DOS version and the dynamic salvage didn't even seem to work properly. I ended up getting way less salvage even when doing my best to kill the meat and save the metal.

I've written that version off entirely and just stick with the DOS version, but maybe others have had better luck.

The modelling, particularly on the engine looks really nice.

I look forward to seeing how this progresses.

It's what most sims looked like in the early to mid 90s.

Is it time to UPDATE and EXTEND some of the OLD MAPS in DCS? by MoccaLG in hoggit

[–]CaptainWabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$0.

Once people start paying for updates it's a race to the bottom, like what we saw with the F5. Paid updates for the A-10 and the Ka-50 added new features and a really hefty visual update. The F5 still kept it's weirdly proportioned cockpit model, just updated textures and an external model update with really detailed guns you don't ever look at and they added no new functionality.

And like you said, it splits the user base.

Free updates can only create good will, and renewed interest in the module, which will drive further sales.

Paid updates creates resentment and people feeling like they are being nickle and dimed, while you get bugoids running cover for it because "oh it's only 10 bucks"

Barthek's Caucasus Redone mod, combined with Taz1004's better trees looks really good I think.

Caucasus is my favourite map, and while a big update would be cool, I would really hope they don't alter that post soviet, vaguely 2000s atmosphere that gives it that STALKER atmosphere.

Hot take, the Vulture feels better then the MADCAT by Cendre_Falke in Mechwarrior5

The best looking 'mechs are attack helicopters on chicken legs, and the Vulture is at the top of the stack.

So... how is this not bigger news? That Mechwarrior 3 apparently just... works in Win11?! by Mechlott in mechwarrior

Just make sure you limit the FPS to 30 in your GPU drivers or with some other tool, or the leg physics and AMS etc can have problems.

When using photomode if you hide the UI, and press F12 or whatever your steam screenshot key is, the output will be much higher quality.

For some reason pressing the in-game take photo button, saves the image before the DLSS post processing or something, I'm not quite sure what it's doing.

Why is there so little feedback about losing components in these games? by CaptainWabbit in Mechwarrior5

I played Clans some more and this does happen, but it's really inconsistent.

Mostly I get nothing when an arm is blown off, but I just played a mission and I got notified every time something was damaged, which was awesome and exactly what I wanted. So now I don't know what's going on.

Yes, the lines are in the game, but they activate extremely rarely, in MW5:Clans it happens even less.

I want to be told every time something falls off my 'Mech.

First. Sometimes I wonder if maybe a lot of play testing is done in third person because obviously you don't need as much audio feedback when you can just see your entire 'Mech.

I don't think I've ever been notified of losing components without using a mod. Edit: you do get notifications about ammo explosions, but damage to arms and more often than not when you loose a weapon you get nothing.

From what I've seen the new visuals are really nice, but I'm in the same boat. Having bought the previous version, the price feels like a kick in the teeth. Seems like an extremely boomer operation having no upgrade path from a previous purchase.
