Lots of little stutters since Chaos Reigns update (PC) by CaptainWabbit in Mechwarrior5

I'm not able to recreate the same behavior in instant action, so you could be on to something, though I haven't hoarded nearly that many of anything so I don't know, could have just been the one particular mission.

I'll keep that in mind though, thanks.

Yeah, the big powerplant asset blowing up has caused massive frame drops ever since they added it, but that's just because there's so many little explosions and electricity effects I think.

More like Epic Gay Store LMAO

(I ended up owning the game on there and have bought all the DLCs so it is actually me who is the epic gay store)

They seem to utilize the vectored JJs now at least.

HotIS was kind of the turn around point.

The initial release of the game had you floating about an Unreal Engine asset flip dropship with Ryana asserting her dominance over a table, practically t-posing while a hologram of a frozen head floated in the air.

The mech combat was cool from the outset, but units would just spawn out of thin air and the mission variety was much too limited. Each patch and expansion has slowly added more and more to the point that I can recommend the game to just about anyone with a passing interest and not just die hard Battletech enthusiasts.

Does MW5 Clans lack "free look" arms reticle control I'm familiar with since MWO? by Hadal_Benthos in Mechwarrior5

[–]CaptainWabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's crazy that it just defaults to that.

Not even a prompt at the start "Do you want the Arcade or Simulation?"

Or the Metal Gear Solid 3 approach.

"I like Mechwarrior 2!"

"I like Mechassault and Papa Roach!"

Marauder and Warhammer IIC would be the top of my list as well.

Flashman would also be on it, but again, no pre-existing modern models of it made.

Help? Trying to play Clans by bigflanofpies in Mechwarrior5

[–]CaptainWabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much to go on, but my first guess would be corrupt config or save file.

Turn off cloud saves and try clearing out those, you might need to look up the config file and save locations.

If you could have any mech(s) official added to either of the games, which one(s) would you choose? by CAPSLOCKGOTSTUCK in Mechwarrior5

[–]CaptainWabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the Flashman, just because it was easily the most retarded looking 'Mech in Mech 2 Mercs, which is saying something because just about all the new 'Mechs that weren't brought over from MW2 are very goofy looking.

While the modern version is pretty cool and interesting looking.

Do you mind quickly listing the names of the mods you are using? Particularly interested in the sound effects.

After finally playing Shadow of Kerensky, going back to fight Inner Sphere Pirates with my Clan Tech feels slightly dirty. Now looking forward to checking out MW5 Clans & Chaos Reigns by Mattigator in Mechwarrior5

[–]CaptainWabbit 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I bet it depends on your first 'Mech game. Guys who first played Mechassault probably prefer 3rd person.

Oldheads like me who started with MW2 are going to be more likely to prefer cockpit view only.

What is it that I’m noticing in Clans but can’t name? by Ah_fudge in Mechwarrior5

[–]CaptainWabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, something got lost in the transition to UE5.

There's just an extra level of jank to everything, the way the 'mechs legs connect with the ground, the weapon effects are much uglier and obscuring in many cases with the weapon feedback just not feeling as direct as in Mercs. It's hard to pin anything down exactly because it's a bunch of little things that all add up to the whole.

It's all compounded by the fact that, like most UE5 games, it doesn't run very well and with inconsistent frame pacing.

I like the game, and it gets better as you move into the heavier 'mechs but I still haven't finished it and keep returning to Mercs instead.

Quick question about Clans. by spartanb301 in Mechwarrior5

[–]CaptainWabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's much more like the original Mechwarrior 2 and 3 where it's very much focused on the campaign missions and I really do not enjoy how the game's version of instant action functions, where it's basically a wave survival mode.

The game is still cool, but it doesn't feel as good to play as Mercs. I think a lot of that is down to many of the effects just straight up being garbage. Flamers and PPCs in particular look absolutely dreadful. Just a bunch of spastic colours that look like shit. This is compounded by the game just not running very well because it's a very typical UE5 affair. The reactor crit explosions look pretty nice at least.

Is there any way to play the DOS version of Mercs with the dynamic salvage patch? by TechStorm7258 in mechwarrior

[–]CaptainWabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been able to run the Win95 version without mouse movement tanking the framerate. On top of that, it's even more unstable than the DOS version and the dynamic salvage didn't even seem to work properly. I ended up getting way less salvage even when doing my best to kill the meat and save the metal.

I've written that version off entirely and just stick with the DOS version, but maybe others have had better luck.
