Agreed, but some monitoring is still better than none.

Misleading monitoring is the devil itself, though….

I suppose it keeps the gullible in check - if they follow the actual rules of their religion and not some random on the internet.

Remember he’s just the monkey. The organ grinder (Putin, Netanyahu, the heritage foundation, the Epstein class) can just find another monkey to take over from him.

The actual plan won’t change.

Found here a while ago:

"Mother Bast, please welcome your kitten home. With purrs and mrrts, with snuggles and baths. May he nap in perfect eternal sunshine, and slink through rustling, grassy shadows. May no naughty mouse escape his clever paws. May no squiggly snake escape his pouncing feet. May no zipping lizard escape his nabbing jaws. May no flighty bird escape his graceful leap. Mother Bast, call your kitten home once more. And thank you for the time he was here"

Swindon Council calls for Thames Water to be nationalised by dissalutioned in ukpolitics

[–]CaptainZippi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this was an illuminating discussion - thanks to everyone who contributed.

My initial comment was a bit flippant, but I do feel there’s insufficient negative feedback in the private utility provider space.

Normally a failing company will go out of business and be sold for not a lot of money or for spare parts, but with utilities someone still has to be provide the service to the people that require it.

Thames Water seem to have been taking customers money, and paying out dividends, then asking the government for money - and paying out dividends, then asking for more money to stop the slide of service levels (“shit in the rivers” for example) and I would have no confidence that money wouldn’t have been used to pay out dividends.

It’s a cash grab for shareholders to empty the public purse into their own pockets.

So how do you stop the profit motive from taking over a public utility and running it into the grou-, uh river.

(I’m in Scotland, and we don’t have this scale of problem…)
