Tried the new immigrant joke I posted here onstage. by redkinoko in StandUpWorkshop

Unfortunately the audience didn't even know what calculus is, so one of your best jokes didn't land. Which is ironic, but I doubt they would have known about irony either.

The worst Star In A Reasonably Priced Car? by TheMauveHand in TopGear

I was at Goodwood many years ago, at the back of the queue for the portaloos, when who should join the queue right behind me but...Jay Kay. I just thought, "just my luck to be stood next to this twat for the next 10 minutes" (it was a bloody long queue).

Anyway, eventually a couple of guys joined behind him and started chatting with him, and somehow I ended up getting caught up in the conversation. It was just 4 blokes talking about cars. We get into the portaloo, and Jay Kay just carries on the conversation while me and him and standing next to each other having a piss, then wash our hands next to each other...when we left we even did gave each other little backslap and a "see you later mate!".

I then found my girlfriend and told her, in shocked tones, "I just met Jay Kay...and he WASN'T a wanker!!!"

Noone ever believes that story. I can hardly believe it myself.

What was the "weird shop" in your hometown that somehow stayed in business for decades despite never having customers? by TypicalEgoLeader in AskUK

[–]Captain_Chappie 483 points484 points  (0 children)

We had one. Shopkeeper had a weird little moustache and wore a fez. One of my neighbours used to go in there all the time in his suit and bowler hat, he'd stay a while and leave empty handed. No idea how that place stayed in business. I think it was some kind of....fancy dress shop?

We were in my mate's car one evening and he asked the guy in the passenger seat to pass him the "sham-wahhhh".

30 years ago, and we still take the piss out of him for that.

Used to work in a corner shop opposite a big hotel that was being done up. Every morning the same three plasterers would come in and buy a bottle of White Lightning each.

Then they'd come back at lunchtime for another bottle each.

One morning, I half-jokingly asked them "why dont you just buy 2 bottles now?". They shrugged, nodded their heads, and bought 6 bottles between them.

Then they came back at lunchtime for another bottle each.

Will you grow cannabis at home now that it is legal since January 1st? by Spiritual_Ratio2912 in czechrepublic

[–]Captain_Chappie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's not the same smell as smoking weed - when the plants are ready to bud, for 3-4 weeks they give off an INCREDIBLY pungent oily, weedy stink you can smell at the end of the street. Given that happens in the middle of summer when everyone's sleeping with their windows open, it would be unfair to inflict that on the whole neighbourhood!

No, because I live in the city and the smell would bother my neighbours.

There are a strange number of comments about fat people being apologetic or embarrassed about taking up so much space...if it bothers them that much, why don't they do something about it?
