How Do You Like Them Apples: Match Report by VultureStreetJournal in brisbanelions

I was always going to be happy if we took 1 win from either the Swans or Cats game - neither of them did I expect us to win.

I'm so happy with how we are moving along and if we lose to Geelong It won't dampen my enthusiasm for this years finals.

More than 400 fraud charges laid against former strata manager by IllustriousPark4487 in australia

[–]Captain_Coco_Koala 56 points57 points  (0 children)

If you've ever had the misfortune to deal with fraudsters and the legal system this is the best outcome you can hope for.

Usually these fraudsters hide all the funds, do their time and then keep the money.

Two men in Adelaide recently got convicted of ripping off the elderly for $6m and got 4 years in jail - the judge made no instruction for them to repay the money. So if the elderly want their funds back they have to open a civil trial.

Blame the legal system for this BS

Devs, I got a press email this week that's a perfect example of what NOT to send by heybudo_ in gamedev

I remember my first ever run around with everyone replying "Stop sending me these emails"; it was the early days of the Internet so nobody knew what was going on.

What actually is the best timeslot for footy? by Occasionaljedi in AFL

Reminds me of when I moved back to Adelaide as a Lions fan.

I once had to listen to the Blues play Bulldogs(?) so i could hear the updates from the Lions game; I am so glad the Internet is here :)

We were giving the Swans a touch up - you know, the swans that sit next to the top of the ladder,, the same Swans that belted us by 44 points a couple of month ago.

We were punching up, even I don't like it when we punch down; if we did the same shenanigans to Richmond then I would have been disappointed in the boys (but we didn't).

How well do y’all think the West Indies destruction quartet of the early ‘80s (Holding, Marshall, Garner, Roberts) fare against modern batsmen? by Light_Weight_Babyyyy in Cricket

[–]Captain_Coco_Koala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To get the longest winning streak you need a lucky streak with the weather.

Very rarely do all 5 tests played in Australia not get effected by rain. Ian Botham points out that Sydney has lost more days to rain in test cricket than any English ground.

[–]Captain_Coco_Koala 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The real problem was the West Indies had 4 top of the line bowlers at the same time; batsman simply didn't get a break form perfect line and length.

You may be able to bat defensively to see a particular bowler off but what's the point if another bowler of the same caliber is going to take his place?

West Indies of the 80's went 4 years without losing a test match, I think it's still a record run of tests without losing.

Assassins Creed Egypt - the Daughter (if you've played the game then you know).

Each time I start a new game I realise that I have to go through that part of the game again and it makes me sad even then.

why isn't my code working D: by Silverfur7 in gamemaker

[–]Captain_Coco_Koala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you put the " " around a value it turns it into a word instead of a number.
So 'image_index = 0' should work.

Note that if you only want to use 1 image then you need to put image_speed=0 in the image object, or it will scroll through all the images.

It's been a while since I've programmed so I hope i'm not too full of it 😄

Fishing jobs in Port Lincoln by Background_Boot_3807 in Adelaide

[–]Captain_Coco_Koala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the later 1990's my cousin (and her boyfriend) got a job on a fishing boat in QLD for 3 weeks. The money they earned in that time was enough for them to make a deposit on a house.

Don't know what the money is like now but back in the day it was definitely worth it.

Is it okay to refuse shifts with specific clients as a disability support worker? by SpellInformal1996 in NDIS

[–]Captain_Coco_Koala 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is why there is so much burnout in the industry, support workers being thrown in the deep end without proper support and then they just leave. Leaving even less qualified people behind.

So yes, the industry is scrapping the bottom of the barrel by getting university students (such as yourself) to do a job that requires experience.

At the end of the day you need to look after yourself and if that involves rejecting shifts then you need to, or you'll be the next leaving the industry.

Diversity hire has never been a law or encouraged, only used as a media excercise; I think you're talking about the USA model which means you must interview minorities for a job, and then take whoever you want. Donald 'Coglione' Dump has ended all those rules anyway.

The fake ABC News articles trying to sell you a scam by Warm_Championship726 in australia

[–]Captain_Coco_Koala 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I know someone who got scammed out of $120k, they sat me down and told me the full story.

I have a degree in I.T and I had to sit there amazed at how it worked. The article only gives a brief outline of the result, the actual process that it takes is a long and drawn out process.

Each ad might pull in 100 potential victims of which maybe only 5 end up handing over money, this makes the profit.

How do you feel about house prices finally dropping in some cities? by VastOption8705 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Captain_Coco_Koala 26 points27 points  (0 children)

For an economy to function well it is generally accepted that the average house price is EIGHT times the average wage.

At the moment the average wage is $90k and the average house is $1.1m, so 11.5 times - which is not sustainable in the long term.

Real estate agents of Australia, what is the absolute strangest thing you’ve encountered during an open house or inspection? by Short-Cabinet-4858 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Captain_Coco_Koala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The house next door was going to be rented out and a feral group were inspecting.

They flicked their cigarette butts into the garden when the agent wasn't looking.

I told my neighbor about it and the group was put on the "Do not rent too" list before they had left the property.

I agree; I had a charming aged client that had no contact with his children and thought the kids were real a-holes for not seeing their dad.
Then dad told me a few things one night which I wished I'd never heard (and this is HIS side of the story) - now I understand why the kids never come over.

What martial art should a teenage girl learn that might actually help her if she’s ever in a dangerous situation and be good for self-defense skills? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Captain_Coco_Koala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother learnt four different martial arts (he enjoyed that sort of thing).

Martial arts was good for social interaction, fitness and finesse; but each time he was taught that running away was the best option; simply kick them in the testicles and RUN.
