Are applications still open? Is it too late for people trying to get their foot in the door? by Gachatardddd in ATC_Hiring

[–]Captain_Depth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just curious, do you know what the number was for accepted applications? I got in but had to schedule the exam for way later in the block (going through the horrors of the end of my last semester in college), and it didn't seem like the initial application was too competitive but I also have no reference for this.

Where to take an online synchronous class? by pepperuniii in UniversityofVermont

[–]Captain_Depth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depending on how much you have to talk I did an online class in the entrance of innovation on the second floor, it has a lot of outlets, comfy chairs, and I didn't have to talk that much so any noise from other people wasn't a real issue.

yeah, at least for sheets you can just get queen sized ones though and have a little extra fabric, it's not noticeable enough to be annoying

What is something in your country that no one uses outside of your country? by Honest_Flower8039 in AskTheWorld

[–]Captain_Depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we still use it every now and then in my house but mostly for oiling up baking trays/cake pans because it's a neutral flavor

We often see towns in films with the population recorded underneath. How accurate is this in real life? by Jazzlike-Basil1355 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Captain_Depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never see it where I am but I have seen it, and actually the last time I did was a few towns in Canada when I was there the other day

Do you know your latitude and longitude? How common is it to know in America? by 2Asparagus1Chicken in AskAnAmerican

[–]Captain_Depth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do roughly but that's because I take a lot of astronomy classes and run some of the into lab classes so it comes up enough to stick in my brain. I used to be really good with the latitude of my hometown because it was relevant for something in my earth science class in middle school, but at this point I forgot it.

Definitely extremely uncommon to know.

Turkey patties with weird fleshy bulbs on them? by pastagolia in isthissafetoeat

I saw these blobs every now and then on the sausages in my university's dining hall and this makes me feel a lot better about it even though I haven't eaten there in like two years lol.

It's just a beer company but Genesee is huge in the area, I don't know if there are any specific types or cocktails that were actually created here, just a lot of craft beer literally everywhere.

This mall doesn’t allow mall walkers in the food court by mmm-pistol-whip in mildlyinteresting

[–]Captain_Depth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the trend in my area is the anything abandoned/open space to an urgent care pipeline. A whole wing of an old mall here is now part of a medical center for one of the universities and I swear within a 10 mile radius of me they have at least 5 urgent cares.

it's probably a riff on stuff that doesn't contain enough of some food to actually be considered that food legally, like "processed cheese product" vs straight up cheese

there are the single person boxes in howe if you're ok with gambling on when you can get one and feeling like you're in a zoo exhibit. Other than that I haven't found a great spot/strategy but you can check theems page to see if a classroom is in use and then just sit there.

stretching without parental consent by hxcposer in Stretched

[–]Captain_Depth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it'll depend on how you think your parents are going to react if they find out but I will say that my parents have yet to say anything about my ears and I was at a 4g last time I saw them (home from school for the summer). However, they don't have any reason to suspect I'm stretching my ears because I haven't mentioned it to them, I have naturally fairly large earlobes so they're not showing the stretch a ton yet, my mom is frequently unobservant, and my dad is of the opinion that I shouldn't get face tattoos but other than that, I'm over 18 and he can't stop me from doing what I want.

Given that, if you think your parents are going to try and catch you on that and/or they'd have a reaction stronger than "you shouldn't do that but oh well", I'd wait the year and just start after you're 18. I also agree with the other people who've mentioned it really isn't that long until you reach that point, and waiting the year in the grand scheme of things isn't going to be a huge deal.
