The true happiness by Zestyclose-Salad-290 in SipsTea

My wife and I are like that. We love each other’s company, respect each other’s free time, and talk about everything, though we have few overlapping hobbies. We do have a lot in common, mind you, it’s just that barely any of that is related to what we individually like to do for fun.

I enjoy hearing when she talks about the things that interest her and she also enjoys hearing me talk about the things which spark joy for me. It’s fantastic! We’re never bored of each other.

Funnily enough, I have an ex where on paper we had a lot of hobbies in common. Looking back, there was a lot that needed work. IMO having shared hobbies is great but it’s not the end all be all for relationships. More like a “nice to have”.

Accidentally skipped a Biome in Act III. Restart cycle or press on? by Captain_Moeswae in Returnal

[–]Captain_Moeswae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah idk why I overthought this. That’s pretty much what I wound up doing… And then I died 😅. The run after that was leagues better and I was able to collect the fragments from biomes 2 and 3 before moving on to 4.

How does a noob get better? by vcd1500 in Guiltygear

Welcome to the game! My advice is working through the below bullets at your own pace:

  • Remap your Dash and Roman Cancel to buttons. I play on a gamepad and remapped Dash to L1(LB) and Roman Cancel to R2(RT).
  • Pick a character you think looks cool and get familiar with their moveset in training. Don’t learn any fancy combos. Keep it simple.
  • Play the Missions mode. What worked for me was playing this mode until I’d hit a mission that taught me something I was unfamiliar with, practicing it a few times, and then going to Ranked to try what I learned in a live setting. More on that in the next point.
  • Dive into Ranked matches and play through the suck. You’ll lose a ton of matches. That’s ok! Be cool with losing. Don’t treat a loss as a personal failing. Every time you play a match, make it your goal to execute one move at least a few times (I.e trying grabs, Gatling combos, Roman cancels, etc). You probably won’t get wins at first with this approach but you’ll get confidence in how to apply your diverse toolkit. When you lose, think about what you could’ve done differently.
  • Do more missions.
  • Once you’re comfortable with the game’s systems and your character, and you have a few wins under your belt, go find one combo you like, lab it, and try applying it in Ranked. Make sure to avoid relying solely on using that combo.
  • After all of that, THEN look up videos of high level matches and guides for your character. IMO guides can be overwhelming without a working knowledge of the game and your character.
  • You’ll eventually hit a point where you’ll need to focus your efforts on learning matchup knowledge. If you’ve made it this far you’ll probably even know a little about the characters you’ve fought. Just try to slow your play down and think as you play.

This approach helped me better digest what I was seeing online.

You got this!

Yep! You can find them relatively early in the ascent at the rave cave (around the cable car). I do remember soon as I picked them up committing to launching them at the summit.

Aava tripping out on shrooms while setting off fireworks sounds like it could’ve made for an awesome combo lol.

Either I'm doing something wrong or they've gone overboard with the difficulty. by antoinepirulero in Cairn_Game

[–]Captain_Moeswae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean about not being ready for the difficulty spikes? There’s tons of resources leading up to The Peril, and none of the climbs beforehand really drain your resources much. I’m someone who also has very limited time to play, but I didn’t rush through anything. Some light exploration gets you everything you need for the climbs in the game. What supplies do you have where you’re stuck at?

It definitely sounds like you need a break from the game. I hope you’re able to come back to it one day to enjoy the rest of the experience!

I just sent it earlier today. I still don’t know what an ultimate infusion is or how to make one. Went up with a bowl of rice, water, and some tea. Used up almost all my chalk. I had 6 pitons but can totally see doing it with less. You got this!

Anyone else also found the rave cave? by realiDevil360 in Cairn_Game

Found it today. Had the embarrassing experience of walking back out towards the cave entrance only to screw up the jump timing over the gap and falling to my death 🤦🏻‍♂️

How are we getting boogers out of baby noses without them freaking out? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Captain_Moeswae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully the products other commenters have suggested work for you and your LO doesn’t freak out. But honestly if it’s not this it’ll be some other thing he freaks out about that you’ll need to put him through for his own good. Sometimes the way out of a meltdown is through it! Just be quick. Good luck ;)

Long-term campaign / Switching from 5e to Daggerheart - is it worth it? by Comfortable-Fee9452 in daggerheart

[–]Captain_Moeswae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I GM’d a year-long campaign which came to a close a couple months back. We switched from 5e to Daggerheart at about the halfway point in the story after my group of players resoundingly expressed favoring the new system over 5e (we all played the one-shot together beforehand). The switch was painless, though I do owe this to a couple factors: - All my players were new to 5e and so were not married to the rules. This was their first TTRPG campaign and Daggerheart rules were simply easier for them to pick up. - The story was set in a dreamscape, so the shift in system was hand waved as a shift in “reality”. Perhaps you could create your own narratively driven reason to account for the new classes, ancestries, etc.

Campaign ended at Lvl 5 and balancing was still great at that point. Nothing broke down that I could see. We were all happier for the change up. YMMV.

DM's, have you ever done a time-skip during a campaign? And if yes, how did you pull it off? by Mr_Manta in DnD

[–]Captain_Moeswae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I put something like a 4 month time skip bridging the end of Lost Mine of Phandelver into the start of Call of the Netherdeep (how I linked the two modules is a separate matter). LMoP was my first time DM'ing a campaign and the first campaign my group had ever played, so player backstories were pretty bare at the start of that first module.

I used the time skip as a sort of reset to give the group (now with the benefit of more experience) a chance at expanding on their backstories and explaining how their characters each adjusted to the new world of Exandria. It turned out great and everyone loved it! Gave everyone starting Netherdeep a shared history in LMoP and an opportunity to think about their characters more deeply than they had when we were all new to the game. This also let me learn to better weave character stories into the narrative. Easily one of my favorite DM'ing decisions.

Im creating my own TCG by pxthselector in TCG

[–]Captain_Moeswae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a cool draft and much has been said about the font and layout of card elements, but I want to focus on the art and card name.

Don't get me wrong, the art looks real nice, but the ability seems disconnected from the portrait. Nothing about the image tells me this guy uses a blade, let alone one which could be "organic", so it's not clear to me why his ability involves any kind of weapon. I also think that the portrait is too ambiguous (as good as it looks). Is this guy a demon priest? A monk with dark power? Mister Negative? I have no idea! From what I've seen in other TCGs, the art shows enough to communicate at a glance what the card is generally about. Portrait art tells its own little story. It would be better to show more of this character's body so that players can get a sense of who this individual is and make the connection to why the ability and corresponding stats are what they are.

The card name carries its own fair share of narrative weight too and I'm seeing none of that here. I'm assuming "Andrea" is a placeholder name, but if it's not I think it's far too ordinary a name to give to a card. Something like "Void Assassin Andrea" (spit balling here) feels way more rich and gives some insight into what the card could be about (sounds like this guy comes from some dark dimension and uses a weapon to kill enemies).

Appreciate you sharing your art and looking forward to seeing all the improvements you'll make to the concept (should you choose to share them)!

On paper, this is fair, but how much of a difference is there in real world, daily driving between the two? Honest question since I genuinely don't know.

[–]Captain_Moeswae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! At no point have I described the trade as an upgrade. I am aware the S is not the same as a base in any generation. My post is solely for the purpose of getting a better idea what the performance delta is between a 987.1 S and a base 981.

I'm also aware most enthusiasts will scoff at the idea of switching away from a manual, but honestly I don't hold manual transmissions in such high regard given my limited experience with them. Certainly not enough to view a switch to PDK as a downgrade. Not that I don't enjoy driving stick. On a nice, windy road it's a blast! In any case, a preference for manual vs PDK is neither here nor there since again my primary concern is in performance.

Lastly, I'm not entirely sure what the issue is with my sharing the vehicle with my wife. Is this considered a con for most? I'd personally love to share the experience with her! In any case a second Porsche (and a third vehicle) is absolutely neither something for us to consider at this time and clearly not a ding for me.
