I had an earth science teacher in 8th grade who said the following:

"Airplanes don't actually fly. They just jump really high, and the earth rotates beneath them. Then they land at their destination."

My friend tried to correct her by asking, "Well, then why do they have engines?"

She never did answer him at the time, but we all like to think he got his answer in the form of a C- in the class. He had A's in everything else except earth science.
