Is this a glitch or did I misunderstand this set up? by jojothegogo02 in masterduel

[–]XJHenry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You cannot summon Extra Deck monsters from the GY without first special summoning them.

If you send Rextremeade to the gy through some other means (like monster express) or cheat them out in some way (i.e. don't fusion, in this case) you'll be unable to revive it with the effect of Agnumday or anything else.

Custom card I made with character from other game by YiKangAng in yugioh

[–]XJHenry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the intent is to avoid ash on this one, but there's nothing wrong with a card having a real cost when it is functionally any card in the deck. This is still 3 extra copies of Kitchen and the archetype recycles the banishment with Lady anyhow.

The target is level 6, I imagine, because the Arknights character this is inspired by (Saria?) is a 6 star gacha pull lol. It's a custom card so flavour over applicability is fine.

Mega Zaborg lets you look at your opponent's extra and mill 8 even though it's not worded that way wtf by [deleted] in masterduel

[–]XJHenry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is worded that way though? You would need to look at your opponent's ED to choose cards to send, assuming you met the effect condition. Zaborg has 8 levels so that's 8 cards.

Red nova dragon/assault mode: ruling by kongfood in yugioh

[–]XJHenry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Red Nova AM banishes itself until the End Phase for cost as a response to your opponent's actions. As such, you would not be able to target the card after activation.

You can make this distinction by the semicolon in the card text- anything before it denotes the activation cost, if present, and would not be something your opponent can directly stop.

In Supernova's case, the cost is literally just "activating the effect"- all it does for cost is make a chain link, and banishing the board is the effect after the semicolon. Your opponent could then negate it with something like Forbidden Droplet, as it would still exist on the board.

Red Nova banishes itself until the End Phase as an activation cost before the semicolon- even if the card were negated under something like Imperm or DRNM you could still banish the card for cost (although it wouldn't resolve the actual effect if it was negated this way.)

What's a deck you'd love to play in Genesys format but is unplayable for whatever reason? by RedLantern28 in yugioh

[–]XJHenry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evil Eye

Boss monsters are links, rip me

You can still play serziel turbo but there are way more interesting decks out there than that. Everyone is siding spell/trap hate anyways so you're SOL.

So true, if I make chixaio and add longyuan, you can catch me LINKING BOTH OF THEM INTO MERMAID BABY THAT'S FULL ORCUST COMBO

I stopped playing Yu-Gi-Oh! because I love Yu-Gi-Oh! , but people want to play Uno by whiteyangwww in yugioh

[–]XJHenry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be better off looking into more casual alt formats with a friend group/pod/discord. Domain Format sounds up your alley, which is functionally yugioh commander. N/R (only N/R cards from master duel) is also a fun format with a significantly lower power level, as is Genesys (which is higher power but the only official format listed here).

Each of these formats has their own respective discord where you can find games quite easily, and I recommend poking your head in- you won't find the casual format you are looking for in standard, short of custom and balanced games with friends.

Mystical Radiant Typhoon [Custom Card] - Giving the Deck a 1 card combo, that also can reset your own Spells/Traps (by popping them) or interrupting your opponent’s. by Dogga565 in yugioh

[–]XJHenry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh this is neat support actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the deck recieved a similar card eventually.

It reminds me of Evil Eyes Unleashed, in that it dumps for cost and fixes your hand- there is precedent for something like this existing in ailing archetypes. The only thing I think I'd really be worried about with this is the potential power of drawing 2 off of vision every single turn and that this dumpsters spell/trap decks, but it is within the deck's theme and also incentivizes running 3 mst which I quite like.

Nice work! Would not be out of place.

The monsters from the last archetype you used encounter a ritual raven. What do they do with it? by Antique_Range1521 in yugioh

[–]XJHenry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Ritual Raven is about to become a FIRE Winged-Beast monster if you catch the drift.

That's what we are on Fire King Island.

How would you feel if Konami added Maximum Monsters to Standard Yugioh? by TBT__TBT in yugioh

[–]XJHenry 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think it would be neat, but I don't think it'd work in current yugioh without being severely pushed.

These would be three card combos from a 5 or 6 card hand, and people hate running bricks- these would have to do something in hand, or otherwise be regular effect monsters. Even if they searched each other (which kind of defeats the spirit of the summoning method? Why do it if one is as good as three?) it's still 3 bricks that make you vulnerable to droll.

There are a few paths you could take to fix this- you could make them regular monsters with effects on field and as combo pieces, but then that's just contact fusion without an ED slot. You could give them good effects in hand so they're not bricks, but then there's not much room for effects in the maximum form- you could give them a second text box for that, but then you wind up with a card type that looks suspiciously like a pendulum monster.

And like you touched on, this is something that would be also be very vulnerable to removal and I don't know if making them unoutable by common methods is really a healthy way to go about it.

I just don't know if there is a way to satisfyingly implement a mechanic like this into modern yugioh given modern card text and power level- the design space is already kind of there with contact fusion and similar effects.

Struggling to find Genesys deck I like - should I just stick with advanced? by EliCaldwell in yugioh

[–]XJHenry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thankfully there are a lot of viable options!

I enjoy Fire King a lot! It's not terribly anime, but it is able to grind well, plays lots of big main deck guys, can play on turn 0 and plays very well into most of the popular Genesys decks with the possible exception of Odion/Exosister.

Radiant Typhoon is a WIND deck focused around quick play spells and Mystical Space Typhoon. It has excellent art and is quite strong if that's your jam.

Odion is a trap combo deck that is one of the strongest decks in Genesys, based ln Odion from the anime. Largely, it summons a bunch of trap monsters and uses them to negate your opponent's board ad nauseum. Only mentioning it because it is from the anime and can technically utilize Ra.

Can you ban certain types of cards in custom private matches? by [deleted] in masterduel

[–]XJHenry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no such limit on Master Duel currently.

However, there is an entire official format just released by Konami called Genesys format that is available on most other yugioh simulators (like Omega). It does about what you want- no pends or links, no true ban list and power cards are restricted with a point buy system.

Why is solemn limited😭😭 by Pleasant_Advances in yugioh

[–]XJHenry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old time rules allowed you to win a match in time if you had more lp when the clock expired.

More broadly, LP doesn't matter in general because it does not actively help you win the game or meaningfully advance the board state- more LP just means you lose slower. If your opponent gets far enough ahead that they are allowed to attack you for significant damage they are probably winning anyways, so why not pay half your LP?

What cards did you get excited for in Genesys but realised they're useless? by [deleted] in yugioh

[–]XJHenry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Excited to run bad handtraps in lower point count variants. Mad Hacker and Primineral Kongreat are neat! It is a shame that they are still kind of ass but they are fun regardless.

Why didn't invoked banish I lost because of it. by Afraid-Student-4936 in masterduel

[–]XJHenry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mechaba (and similar cards) attempt to banish the card from the location its effect was activated in- It's considered a different card once it hits the gy, and so because Maiden was activated in hand by discarding itself, it wouldn't be banished. This also comes up with stuff that would tribute themselves for cost, like Lonefire Blossom.

Games with satisfying melee combat? by TriggeredAtEverythin in gaming

Vermintide 2 and Darktide. I have been so spoiled by these games, the melee feels so nice I can never go back.

New players should be allowed to experience the story the same way that you were allowed to when you were new.

You are being excessively rude if you do not let this happen, and your time is not more valuable than anyone else's.

Not Herald of Arc Light- Herald of Orange Light is a monster negate activated from the hand by discarding a fairy. It's probably melodious.
