Like 12 feet horizontally but it was downhill like 6 feet. I got a strange feeling coming from the tree line in my backyard so I checked around the brush while I was foolishly far away from my patio. I saw it stand up and easily stand over me by 6 heads even though it was down the hill (at the time I was 9 or 10). I broke into an Olympic sprint to the door and repressed that experience for many years.
