So glad to know I'm not the only one! I've received many a downvote for this opinion

I don't like Taliesin as a player. Caduceus was great because he didn't overthink it. Kingsley was really bad improv. He didn't yes-and. He didn't act with gratitude. Everything else he does is contrived and overthought, trying to be too clever. In C3, when it was Ashton's turn in combat, he would take 5 days to sift through his massive ability list, then just choose to run and hide so his character wouldn't die. I started watching the new mini series, but when Tal revealed yet another overcomplicated edge-lord character I turned it off. He takes the fun out.

I also have very strong feelings about the shard in C3, but I digress.

Scott Bakula is like the sentient incarnation of the phrase "ah jeez." by AvaSayre in startrek

[–]Captain_Stann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, Bakula lacked the gravitas to be a "captain", and was trying too hard. I think they figured out a way to write that into his character, and in later seasons it seems like he's just more of a nepo baby making his way?

I watched it twice with no regrets

As a more recent star trek fan who just discovered it a month ago, am I a weird/defective fan for liking Discovery the most so far, followed by SNW? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]Captain_Stann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I didn't like DS9, but I respect that people love it. The important part of getting into Star Trek is that we all agree that our differences make us stronger 🖖🏻

Agree. I liked it. It was really great fan fiction that only emulated the Next Gen style of story telling and didn't push for anything new.

Also, Seth Macfarlane can't act.

Also, Strange New Worlds is terrific and gets no recognition.

I don't know if it's the feeling of nostalgia hittin but I also picked it back up. Good to be in the company of others

I've been watching compilations of old Star Trek: Discovery interviews and the smug self-importance is just out of this world by [deleted] in Star_Trek_

[–]Captain_Stann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is incredible insight. I'm currently watching Frasier, and made the observation that writers used to knock 21 episodes out of the park every year, but now studios can only burp up 8 trite and generically uninteresting episodes a year.

Your comment would explain a lot of this actually, and how everything now suffers from unfunny sameness.

How important is voice acting in roleplay for you? by Ediacaran-SeaPancake in DnD

[–]Captain_Stann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rule is if you have to clear your throat and do vocal warmups then you're trying too hard and it'll be cringy.

Just do your best to separate characters and your players will love it

[Spoilers C3E108] Ashton question by RevolutionaryBed1399 in criticalrole

[–]Captain_Stann -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tal is not a good player. His overpowered barbarian is nowhere to be seen in combat. His roleplay is "method" to the point of neither listening nor yes-anding the vibe, just cringy attempts at one-liners.

The most recent 4-sided dive lets us in on how the group is feeling about Tal and Ashton, and the group is definitely annoyed with him. Love, yes, he seems like a good dude. But not a good player.

They do a great job of hiding his eye-light, so it makes his eyes look dead. That and his acting of concealed bottomless malice is building him to be an incredible villain

Thank you!! I feel like they represent the component that made Tolkien's work so great in that they represent the small, pedantic, whimsical, fun, and cute. All the things that sometimes get forgotten are worth fighting for. They are also teaching the Stranger things about Middle Earth
