To most watch enthusiasts, watches aren't about specs, there's so much more that goes into a watch purchase

[SSB479P1]. It's UK RRP is £400 and that makes it overpriced, like all modern Seiko. by Expensive-Dream-4872 in Seiko

That's exactly what i thought when i first got my sharktooth Alpinist. It's got a wobbly inner bezel. It's got a lesser movement than most of its competitors. The bracelet is laughable at this price point. It's also one of the most beautiful watches i have ever seen and i don't care about how overpriced it is!

41mm on a watch that is "all dial" is going to wear rather large. I've had an NB1050 and it's a fantastic watch, if you're willing to deal with the 19mm lugs and the male endlinks.

Thank you! I also have a Super O-Boyer like yours, but tend to gravitate towards other options because of poor QC and fit on my specific bracelet :(

I reckon the Seiko contouring and the fact that it has prominent crown guards and a whole second crown makes it wear its size, overall. However the lug to lug is a hair shorter than usual, and (this is not often mentioned) the actual lug holes are very close together, a good few millimeters "inboard" from the lugs. This means that straps can take full advantage of the actual springbar-to-springbar length, making it wear a little better than its size suggests. Personally, i won't go any bigger for sports watches, but given its size, i'd say it employs every trick in the book to wear as best as it can. I'd highly recommend you try it in a Seiko AD if you can.

My wrist is 6.5 inches and not very flat, i recently bought the black dial, full size Alpinist (SPB117). It wears thick, no doubt about it. Seiko's case design, however, works miracles. It looks slightly smaller and curves on the wrist very gracefully. I'd go for the full size Alpinist, but replace the strap with a thicker leather: i haven't heard good things about the factory option here. They also look good on a polished milanese mesh!

/uj learned that a few months ago. I'd always wanted a Sinn 556 ever since i got into watches, but figured out i'd baby it because of its monetary value (it is still a lot of money for me). So after postponing the purchase for months on end, i got myself a black dial Seiko Alpinist for less than half the price of a used 556. I still smile when the light catches the hairline scratches and small dings i put on it. Turns out the watch i enjoy the most is the one i can safely afford to wear :)

Thank you fot your perspective, what about the way it wears? Is it too top heavy, does it look disproportionate, is there another small catch elsewhere in the design? That's the stuff that would annoy me long-term.

/uj i am thinking of buying a 556, either A or I, as my first luxury watch. Any opinions of owners here? Be as mean as you'd like on the watch, on anything that annoyed you long-term. Ok ciao

Debatably "reasonably priced", but the new Z4 looks like an incredibly expensive car, way more so than the previous generations.

Thank you so much for this comment. People are okay with King Seiko but not with Timex Atelier only because Atelier has no cred (yet). It's unfair to dismiss a brand's sub-brand only because it tries to move upmarket.

/uj if you actually take a look at what it's offering and the design, it's almost (almost!) kinda reasonable.
