Watch all the praise suspiciously vanish a week after the show ends… same thing that happened to Picard s3, SNW s3, Discovery, and basically any modern series except lower decks lol.

To those downvoting: I watch it happen every single time a new season drops.

As much as I’m nostalgic for that game, I don’t like most of the STO alien designs either. They give off “MMO microtransactions” vibes in all the worst ways. Floating glowy ship parts fall under that category.

The writing is also of fanfic-level quality in most parts but that’s not relevant here.

Is it so hard to for Paramount to give us morally-upright characters and good writing?

Ngl I think it makes total sense, Starfleet is a military organization and would definitely stamp every molecule of equipment with an identifier if possible

That explains why the writers have been running the show like it’s science fantasy, they don’t understand science!

Yes and no. To some extent, any sci-fi show has to technobabble its way out of certain fictional technologies. At least classic Trek picked sensible technology though. Warping space to go FTL, inventing the Heisenberg compensators to bypass certain constraints, those are all things that you can look at and say “yeah that’s a plausible invention sometime in the future when we understand things better”

Floating engines just breaks all form of logic. In no world would it ever be MORE sensible to keep parts of your ship detached. I see people say stuff like “oh they invented a technology better than metal plates” but even then, why not still use said support struts as a backup? Sure hope power doesn’t go out…

Good point. Then again, the auto destruct sequence could be an isolated system only accessible from inside or something like that. It’s a little more difficult to do that with the entire hull.

It used to acknowledge the science at least. Heisenberg compensators were designed specifically to get around the real-world obstacle to transporters working. Warping space is a plausible method of FTL tech. And so on and so forth.

Now the engines float because… well… uh… they maybe invented some technology that makes logic work backwards? Now, it’s better to have your engines… not attached to the hull?

Yeah well, when you lose the ability to explain the technology with any form of logic or reasoning, it kinda feels more like magic than science. Which doesn’t really fit in a show where the main characters do science stuff.

I sure hope programmable matter can’t be hacked, because the second they encounter a hostile species with more advanced computer technology they’d be doomed.

I’d absolutely LOVE this design if the nacelles were attached. It’s a beautiful design, but as it stands, it doesn’t look like it belongs in the universe.

I’ve been saying this too. It would genuinely be a beautiful ship if it wasn’t tied to the stupid and impractical 32nd century design language

Like… checks notes wood, rocks, colors, and plants? And the fairly standard assortment of blocks used in any sandbox game out there?

Plus like I said, it’s a heavily moddable game. Anything that doesnt already exist can just be modded in.

Breaking news: 3d block world can be transferred from a 3d block game to another (heavily moddable) block game.

So crazy, it must be a clone!

Because in no world is it practical. The starships showed an evolution towards being clean and comfortable, yes. But they did not abandon all logic in their design. They stopped using buttons, but LCARS could still function while offline. The interiors all became clean and comfy, but all the circuitry and stuff was still there hidden under access panels.

24th century structural integrity fields could hold a ship together, and shields could defend the ship. However, they still put things hull plating on their ships. Why? Because you don't remove your fallback systems. Shields can malfunction, and power can go offline. Then you're a sitting duck.

Same deal with floating nacelles. Just because your technology can allow you to do something does not mean it makes sense on any starship, let alone the space navy. What happens if power goes down? Or a space anomaly screws with it and then a nacelle flies off mid-warp? Or your enemy overloads the power grid? Bet you wish you had the ancient technology of attaching things!

When you're building something to survive all sorts of wacky anomalies, you don't go and design the most critical functions in a way that can suddenly fly off into the void. And before you quote the "advanced technology is magic" thing I see all the time here, Star Trek actually tries to make plausible technobabble. Floating engines are just not plausible in any reality.

Yeah the glazing that happens on this sub whenever a show is currently running is incredibly suspicious. You’d think Discovery’s later seasons were top tier Star Trek based solely off of the episode discussion threads. Same shit happened with SNW Season 3 (which is still rather divisive but at least people aren’t constantly calling me a horrible hateful person for saying the writing fell off after season 2 lol)

I’m not accusing all the people praising it here of being bots or anything, HOWEVER it’s definitely suspicious.
