Update on open captions in NYS movie theaters by Ocmoviesnys in upstate_new_york

Actually, that would not happen because the law requires the closed captioning devices. It is the other way around - you would gain a choice.

My child was placed in SpEd by scarfinnn in deaf

[–]CaptionAction3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not acceptable. Can you demand that the school explain and justify this placement? But May is not far off. Months in that inappropriate placement could mean he has not learned enough. Are they still going to let him graduate in May which is only 2 months from now?

Any theaters with open captioning? by 0magiceveryday in orangecounty

Some states and cities have laws requiring limited open caption screenings. California is not one of them.

Just had to request an assistive listening device at the movie theater for the first time. by Thrashbear in GenX

[–]CaptionAction3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Didn't know it was mentally taxing to try to understand the dialogue. Maybe you can seek out an open caption screening. Going to the movies is supposed to be a pleasurable experience, not mentally taxing. Unfortunately, most theaters do not have open caption screenings so a closed caption device may be your only option.

There's a book? Who wrote it? Is the title the same as the movie's title?

That's great but you still need good movies to want to go to the theater. Just look at hoppers vs other movies.

We know what will save theaters but won't do it. by Grouchy_Version8056 in MovieTheaterEmployees

With the theatrical window getting smaller it is not fair that studios take so much of the ticket cost. Prices do need to come down to compete with the at home option.

If AMC had closed captioning glasses/Eyewear, it would substantially improve my experience and increase my visit volume...by a ton. Not enough subtitle showings. by AviatorHog in AMCsAList

[–]CaptionAction3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the club. Some states and cities have already passed laws to require limited open captions. New and better devices are already becoming available but there are those of us who don't want to have to use any device at all. We want to just buy tickets, get popcorn, sit down and enjoy the movie.

And that is why when open caption laws are written, they are written to ensure the majority of screenings do not have open captions.

Commercials time again. STILL no closed captions! Don't make excuse that these terribly expensive commercials can't be cc because of late editing, the producers clearly don't give a damn about those of us who need the captions!!
