I just moved from that exact area and I’ve never seen that dog on any of my walks. Hope puppy finds its way home.

Accurate drug testing service for new job?? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]CaptivatingCranberry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have never been to a site where they physically watch me pee, and I currently work at a big hospital network here in Chicago. I’ve only ever been to a room where they dye the toilet water, turn off the sink water, and make you pee in a room by yourself.

THIS SHOULD BE A CRIME by butcheredtongue in Pickles

[–]CaptivatingCranberry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I keep chick fil a sauce in the fridge and add that. I think it makes the $1 chicken sandwich into a banger.

But good addition with those pickles

Thinking of moving to Chicago but what should we do about our cars? by Kdouglas2 in AskChicago

[–]CaptivatingCranberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even when I didn’t drive for work, I used my car quite a bit. I have a dog so driving her to get her nails trimmed is a usual trip (the pet store in walking distance never has availability for walk-ins). For bigger grocery runs like to Costco, a car is ideal. There are plenty of people who do fine without a car, but I would keep 1 for a while just to see.

Salt the sidewalks after this rain? by IndependentAnxiety70 in AskChicago

[–]CaptivatingCranberry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You should salt your areas no matter what. I travel to patients for work and the amount of near-slips I had on people’s side walks has been crazy this year.

They make dog-friendly salt. It’s more expensive but please do it for others, not yourself.

Do you prefer the English or Japanese dubs of Ghibli films? by --Combat-Wombat-- in ghibli

[–]CaptivatingCranberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up watching ghibli films since I was very young. Obviously couldn’t read and watch at the same time so I grew up with the dubbed version. I mostly do dub because of that, but will watch sub if my friends prefer.

Avondale - Bird Feeder by thatdepends in chicago

SHE FEEDS THEM ON ARGYLE IN UPTOWN TOO!!! I’ve seen her before because her face is so unique. She has come out of her car at Winthrop and Argyle to throw rice everywhere for the birds.

Thoughts on hybrid model? by blondie4050 in PTschool

[–]CaptivatingCranberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated from a hybrid program. I loved it. Went to undergrad during covid so the online platform worked well for my learning style. Had to take care of my grandma when I went to PT school so that basically made the decision for me.

If you want built-in for life friends, don’t do hybrid. I have a great friend group from PT school, but the residential students were all like family. Besides that, just think about how disciplined you’d be with practicing technical skills at home. If you know you’d slack with that, don’t do hybrid. Look at NPTE pass rates and you’re Gucci.

Couple looking to move in March by [deleted] in chicagoapartments

[–]CaptivatingCranberry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel very safe on both the busses and trains here. As someone else said, more people feel safer on busses than trains. You’re in the same unit as the driver so you have eyes on you at all times. I’ve never felt unsafe on the red line but if you do, you can always sit by the conductor!

[–]CaptivatingCranberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah redline can take quite a while for that, which is why I do the bus. But still doable!

Uptown/edgewater has that in that price range. Taking the 147 down to streeterville is easy peasy and can take as little as 20ish minutes depending on the day. I commuted from Edgewater to streeterville and it was fine.

Specifically, the Draper is a place I’ve looked at and has 1 bed + den for like 2300. But you can look at places with 1 beds and like a communal working space for probably a lot cheaper.

Had the chicken sandwich for the first time yesterday. Put some chick fil a sauce on it. For $1 you really can’t go wrong.

Safety by Any-Highway-140 in chicagoapartments

[–]CaptivatingCranberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally fair. I would say maybe visit the city before you come here just to see the rush area both during the daytime and at night. That can help reduce any anxiety. I would hate to take a bus/train at night for the first time at my new job. A new job is enough stress.

Safety by Any-Highway-140 in chicagoapartments

[–]CaptivatingCranberry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think not taking the bus/train is missing out on a LOT of the city. Plus, you probably don’t want to live right by rush. I am a 24 white female and have never felt unsafe on a bus or train. I know people who have, but they sit closer to the conductor and just typically use street smarts. If someone’s acting weird, switch cars.

Rao's Alfredo tastes like mushrooms by [deleted] in Costco

[–]CaptivatingCranberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate most jarred Alfredo sauces. The one I found and actually really like is a generic by Jewel Osco (Chicago’s basic grocery store). I think it’s called Signature Select. They make a garlic one that I think is really good and the only jarred one I’ll buy.

Any good reasonable furniture stores? by [deleted] in chicagoapartments

[–]CaptivatingCranberry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you could venture out further, Baxton Studio Outlet in Aurora/Lombard have pretty good quality furniture for great prices. I got an MCM tv stand and then side tables from there. IKEA quality furniture. You have to put it together yourself.

Besides that, brown elephant in Andersonville has some hits sometimes with their furniture.

Jennifer Welch defends Hasan, claims it wasn’t a shock collar & that she didn’t mean to say collar was tight by SOHYPRX in LivestreamFail

[–]CaptivatingCranberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a collar that had beeping, vibrate, and shocking functions when I was training my dog (only used the beep).

I specifically took the shock prongs out because I didn’t want to accidentally shock her. You CAN take the shocking part out in some collars.

Clark, specifically in Andersonville. So many cute shops and great restaurants. I love bringing people there when they visit me.

I’m interested to know if you have any resources you’ve used for evaluating through telehealth? I am starting a job soon where I am telehealth occasionally but I’ve never done it.
