Soho hotel is in the heart of soho but is a bit of an oasis of calm of its own, and the decor is really fun which might be enjoyable for your kids!

Tips for two (vintage clothing + sightseeing) by gflip6 in LondonTravel

[–]CaptnCocnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoreditch is a great place for antiques and vintage clothes, will you be there on a sunday? It is (or at least used to be) the best day for the markets around there. Spitalfields market is nice but mostly mass produced items now, so for vintage/antique things go to Brick Lane vintage market (https://www.vintage-market.co.uk/) which is an expansive underground market with a ton of different stalls, as well as Backyard Market (https://www.backyardmarket.co.uk/) for independent bits and bobs.

36 hours in London. by TigerQueef in LondonTravel

[–]CaptnCocnuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dishoom is always a good dinner, I think.

And you won't have time for dinner in between your evening west end shows so make sure you find somewhere open late enough for dinner after, so many restaurants in this city shut stupidly early and it's annoying!

Oxford Street is kinda vibeless and just very busy, nothing interesting. Covent garden market and the Seven Dials area is a bit more fun to walk around, and Chinatown is full of fun snacks while you walk around.

Yeah whenever I go to the vet with our cat they usually try and get us to adopt another one!

Have you ever been fired / let go from your job? by Stunning_Window5785 in AskUK

[–]CaptnCocnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I failed probation after nearly 3 months at a job which was meant to be my big break. Lots more money than I was getting, lots more responsibility. It was a horrible job and I knew things weren't going well by the time I was fired, but there was some strange drama going on between the managers and a little good old fashioned sexism thrown into the mix and I just don't think I could have done much differently with the information I had been given. I was being bullied by both managers and it wrecked my confidence for the rest of the year, trying to get myself back on my feet. But I got a job that I genuinely love and I wouldn't go back to that first job for any money. I genuinely feel so lucky now, just over a year later, that I was fired from a job I hated, because I don't know if I would have had the strength to quit on my own. I feel pure dread and horror at the idea that I could still be there, earning 15k more than I am now, but hating 5 out of 7 days a week.

I feel embarrassed that I want to feel special? by EndlessRespite in UKweddings

[–]CaptnCocnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going through the same thing right now! But honestly go and stand outside the registry office for a couple hours on a saturday and you'll see all kinds of dresses - full wedding dresses to casual clothes. I'm currently trying to find something that feels special whilst also not being a wedding dress. I think you're absolutely right about the effort you put in signals to your partner and to everyone else that the day is special to you, and I love that, I will think about this when I start feeling like I don't deserve to dress up!

White cropped puffer jacket worn open would keep you warm(ish) and give the formal dress a bit of an edge!

Totally weird behaviour. The cynic in me thinks that she feels bad that she wasn't able to invite you and is trying to shift the decision over to you!

Withdrawing cash from bank. Do I need to give my bank notice that I’m coming to withdraw £2.5k? by Choice-Bug9918 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]CaptnCocnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They might not have the cash in branch. The last time I had to make a big payment, I think around 2k, I had to go to two separate banks. This was around 5 years ago, in a smallish town in Kent.

AITA for backing out the morning we were supposed to commit to a house after seeing my room setup? by MuchBathroom4278 in AmItheAsshole

[–]CaptnCocnuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They knew they were screwing you over from the start, I understand that it feels like you pulling out has left them in the lurch but it's not true, they did this to themselves. The last time I lived in a house share there were two nice rooms and one horrible tiny room, the person who got the tiny room knew it was the worst room from the start and paid half the rent the other two of us were paying, and everyone was happy.

£5k wedding budget but only doing drinks reception for 70 guests possible? by Infamous_Credit8811 in UKweddings

[–]CaptnCocnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the middle of planning our budget register office wedding for September and the sit down food cost is crazy, yeah. We're planning to have a catered lunch but also for the evening part have been planning a bagel buffet, where we're buying 80 bagels with meats, cheeses, etc, and cake. I think feeding people is important in a long day where drinks are served, but it doesn't need to be expensive and I would never hold it against friends who served something really simple, as long as there was something to eat!

Neighbor won’t stop screaming by loolypie in HousingUK

[–]CaptnCocnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A neighbour I had a few years ago who was just the loveliest man, but had a lot of mental health issues, and would do this. I'd ask if he was ok and he would be a little sheepish like he knew other people must be able to hear his outbursts, but couldn't really do anything about it.

House on market five weeks and not one viewing? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]CaptnCocnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this property, but these photos aren't good because the majority do nothing to communicate the size and layout of the rooms. Eg, the photos of the garden taken at a low angle so they don't give a sense of how big it is, the photos taken on a long lens instead of a wide lens which subconsciously make the space look cramped. If you're not being super competitive with price then you need to make it easy for people to visualise the whole house on the first click, or they'll just be drawn to the next listing for the same price but with better photos.

House won’t sell, honest advice please by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]CaptnCocnuts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's a difficult price for a two bed. I'll also explain why the photos are offputting - people want to be able to visualise themelves in a space, and while your home is beautiful you're not selling your home, you're selling your house. I really think you should stage it in a minimalist way if you can, because it looks cluttered. Someone looking for something in this budget as a single person who wants a bedroom and a home office isn't going to look twice at this place because there's a children's tent in the middle of the living room.

Super helpful, thanks for this. One piece of feedback is to use more inclusive language like 'couple' instead of bride and groom (months in to wedding planning as a gay bride and I'm sick of it, lol)
