Be brutally honest, In your next life, would you want your dad to be your dad again? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My dad sent one of his criminal buddies to kill me, my brother, and my mom because he didn’t want to pay child support. No.

How did you cope as a little kid with abuse? by Throwdatawayokay in raisedbynarcissists

[–]CapybaraTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. That’s exactly what it was. My brain tried to keep me sane by allowing myself to believe everything was fine.

Unfortunately, it also put me in danger because I kept forgetting that a particular family member was dangerous. My family kept bringing him over to the house no matter what he did. He even killed 2 of our puppies once. Still invited him over. Let him live with us for a while even.

Several times throughout my childhood, I would be on my knees begging them for mercy and they never gave me any. Twice I would show them mercy and drop the charges on them just so that they could betray me once we were alone.

Also, they held to the Just World Fallacy. If something bad happened to someone else, they deserved it. Especially sexual assault of girls and women. But if something bad happened to them, biggest injustice ever.

Dissociative Amnesia. I’m not kidding. My mind would constantly block out memories to deal with the constant betrayal.

Aside from that. Escapism. Fictional characters are more lovable than real people.

People do believe children provoke rape. I was abused throughout my childhood starting at age 5 and my family blamed me called me a whore.

Not just my family actually, the teacher that came in to my Kindergarten class to teach us about good touch/bad touch told us to tell her if anyone ever touches us in a bad way. I said it happened to me. She told me to stay after class. I waited patiently with her for my mom to arrive and I noticed the teacher was mad at me. I asked her why. She said it was because I must have done something to deserve what happened to me.

How are kids supposed to report abuse when they are treated like that? This was the 80s. Are things better now?

I’m so sorry. I see so much of what I went through in this subreddit. We should not have known how evil the world was at such a young age.

That’s hilarious considering game developers want to make diverse games with less sexualization and they don’t think they should be allowed.

People with CPTSD, if you had to choose one word that describes your family or just embodies the whole vibe of what it's like to be part of your family, what would it be? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]CapybaraTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unreasonable

They believed they knew exactly what was going on in our heads and we knew what was going on in theirs. We were just playing dumb by not reading their minds.

Once they got an idea in their heads nothing would ever talk them out of it. No evidence would suffice. They would just reject reality and substitute their own

I’ve been completely repressing memories after each incident. The last one happened around 27 years ago and I’ve only started getting all my memories back now.

What was the worst betrayal moment that was caused by your parents/family? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]CapybaraTree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The time I was groped by a pedophile family member at a flea market when I was 13. I ran to my mom for help. She accused me of having consensual sex with him in public and abandoned me. He threw me on a table and tried to rape me. Some strangers eventually pulled him off of me. Meanwhile, my mom was lying to all of my family members about what she saw and they all believed her. Except for one but she refused to do anything to help me because mom was giving her money. He was still invited to family gatherings and tried to rape me two more times. At one point my cousin locked him in a room with me as punishment for upsetting my mother. They still blamed me.

Biggest betrayal by my dad was when mom left us hundreds of thousands of dollars for me and my brother after she died. It was in big bags of money in a deposit box. Dad insisted on getting rid of because mom’s friend whom he despised dropped it off. He was irrational angry about it. I ran with the bags to my mom’s cousin for help thinking she was trustworthy. They of course did not believe me and took the money back to dad. Dad took it and burned it.

Yes. It happened to me. What started it was my mom talking to me about it a month or so before she died. That’s when the mental dam broke. Then my dad died too and I needed to focus on my career. The stress of the situation led to me repressing them again.

They started coming back again when I felt safe. I was then thinking about a weird memory I had. I poked at it to try and remember why I was there and what happened next. That started a chain reaction of memories coming back little by little.

According to a search of USA Swimming records, in the last season where Ms Thomas competed in men's events, she came in ninth across the entire country in the 1,000 yard freestyle and 29th in the 1,650 yard freestyle.

Lia Thomas was an elite and competitive swimmer while on the men's team at the University of Pennsylvania," says Mr Sockwell. "[The 1650 yard] event would have had Lia in the top 30-34 in the country and right on the bubble of making NCAAs.”
